  • Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde Mercury Retrograde Mercury has to do with our thought process and thinking ability. It has a great deal to do with our communication techniques and our ability to create ideas and formulate action through the thought process. Mercury goes retrograde three or four times a year, with interludes every four months (approximate). Its retrograde cycle is approximately three weeks in length. During its retrograde cycle, it appears to move backwards in the heavens between 10 to 15 degrees. This is a period when we would be wise to sit back and review what has taken place recently before pushing ahead with our goals. This is a time of analytical analyses before we move ahead. Careful study is advised and then when Mercury goes direct, we can move ahead with our endeavors. If by chance we have no choice but to proceed with a project under the influence of Mercury’s retrograde cycle, we can usually expect some delays or obstructions along the way. Their mission is a noble one with the general good of all intended. They are progressive thinkers with excellent reasoning abilities and they truly want to provide something for others to share and incorporate into their lives. They are sympathetic and compassionate with a genuine concern for those around them. Their ideas can be radical and even rebellious, and they are against any type of constraint. Freedom seekers, they reach out beyond the confines of what could be considered normal, extending themselves beyond rational thinking. They are often thought of as trailblazers with progressive, intuitive ideologies in the forefront of their thinking. Aquarians want to change the world and make it a better place for everyone to live. They will patiently try to shake others away from complacency, pushing them into new and unexplored regions of their own minds. As mentioned, they are progressive thinkers and anything that has become stale and no longer serves a purpose, they insist on changing. When their views are obstructed or interfered with they can easily become impatient and temperamental. They are very fixed in their opinions with an intention of providing what others need on a mental level. The thinking process is considered quite logical and they have a broad focus. It is all about evolution and bringing in the new with advancement on their minds. Aquarians believe they are right and will follow along a planned route towards a given target. They can be somewhat rebellious but have no problem admitting to this; some are even radical in their ideas and considered quite different. They actually enjoy this. If you make a friend with an Aquarian, you will never be bored. They have an adventurous spirit and love wide open spaces. There is actually a real need for freedom and a need to roam. Being tied down does not sit well with the average Aquarian. If you are in search for a logical resolution to a problem they will assist you in reaching a positive conclusion and then make you aware that it was you that came up with the solution. • Mercury

Mercury Mercury Mercury in the natal chart by sign and house position can vary a great deal. We will primarily discuss the planet Mercury in this section. The planet Mercury is associated with the mind's focus and our attention. Its primary function is the act of communication, both on the receiving end and on the giving end. Mercury also has a lot to do with what could be termed as our everyday living, and our connections with the outside on an immediate level. Mercury’s house position in the natal chart and its sign position indicate something about the way we think. It also has a lot to do with the learning process and how we become aware and absorb the information that the mind is incorporating into our point of focus. Mercury can be interconnected with our schooling. For example, if Mercury is poorly aspected in the natal chart, we may have some difficulty completing our schooling. We could have problems with concentration, or the written word would not come as easily to us as it would to someone who has a well aspected Mercury. Knowing this can be helpful and assist us when our children are having difficulty understanding or focusing on their schooling. Mercury has very little to do with feelings as it relates primarily on the non-verbal level. In some cases if mercury is in a very receptive sign (usually water signs) one can pick up information on other levels, such as telecommunication or through psychic channels. The planet is an important factor in consciousness raising, as Mercury can be associated with making some areas of life apparently unconscious more conscious. Gemini and Virgo are both ruled by the planet Mercury and if you know any people with their Sun , Moon or rising signs (Ascendant) in either Gemini or Virgo , you may find that the mind is a strong active force in their lives. • Mars | holmastrology.com

Mars Locate Mars in your natal chart, and through its sign placement and house placement, you will begin to understand how your energy is activated. Mars is the planet of dynamism and action and instigates activity in your life. Mars specifically deals with the energy that it takes to deal with pressures in your life. Mars can be an aggressive force and when provoked will ignite the urge to fight and stand up for what you feel is your right. Mars is linked to masculine figures in our life, while Venus is linked to female figures in our life. Venus , among other things, represents young women; while Mars, among other things, represents young men. Mars is strongly connected to our sexual drive and ambitions in life. With a strong Mars, perhaps connected to Aries , Leo or Scorpio , the sex drive and push in life is exaggerated. The energy of Mars needs an outlet. This could be found in aggressive action, through violence and arguments or through mystical and spiritual avenues of expression. Mars when accompanied particularly with transiting Pluto (transits are planetary movements) will often be found in acts of violence or injuries caused through accidents, heavy machinery or sharp tools. Mars when transiting through certain houses can activate these areas of life and create new beginnings and fresh starts. Find how Mars particularly through progression (progressions will be discussed in a future post) affects your life and learn how best to manifest its energies so that Mars will assist you rather than hinder you. • Imum coeli-or-ic | holmastrology.com

IMUM COELI OR IC The Imum Coeli more commonly known as the IC is usually found on the fourth house cusp (depending on the house system used by the Astrologer). In the equal house system, it can also be found in the second, third and fifth houses, which will alter the influence of its meaning. In most house systems, the IC is found on the cusp of the fourth house indicating a parent, arguably either parent, but in this Astrologer’s opinion, it involves the more submissive, mothering, caring parent.) The fourth house cusp or IC also deals with the home, the family and your roots. It is known as the basis or foundation of our life and although this area of the chart is considered quite private, it still has a dominant affect in our lives, especially when transiting planets make aspects to this area. It should also be understood that this highly influential area while in aspect will not only affect our home and family (fourth house matters), but will also affect the opposite end of the spectrum, the MC (10th house matters). Transits to either of these areas of the Chart will affect the opposite ends of the Chart. So when the home and family are being affected in our lives and security wavers, it may be due to demands from the MC, which deals with one’s status, occupation and ambitions. When either the IC or the MC is receiving a conjunction from a transiting or progressed planet or a luminary (the sun or moon), the opposite will be receiving an opposition. When one of the IC or the MC is receiving a square from a planet or luminary, the other will also be receiving a square. When one is receiving a trine, the other will be receiving a sextile. Hence the impact of a transiting planet or progressed planet will affect both areas of the Astrology chart. The IC describe our most personal needs, as it is connected to the natural sign ruling the fourth house, which is Cancer, ruled by the Moon. As a result, it defines emotional needs, nurturing characteristics, and our attitude towards family. It will be colored by the sign ruling the fourth house cusp, as well as any planetary links found within the fourth house, particularly when a planet is conjunct within 2 degrees of the cusp on either side. A planet or luminary within four degrees in the third house will also affect the IC. If, for example, Uranus were conjuncting the IC, it would be in opposition to the MC. We could, as a result, expect changes sometimes drastic in nature to the home and family, such as a move and influences in our occupation and status in life. These changes could be of a rather sudden nature and a need for freedom and breaking free in order to create change would be on the agenda. Much would depend on the overall conditions of Uranus in the birth chart and its location by house and sign. The IC and MC, particularly in early life, depict incidents linked to the parents which in turn will affect the child. This parental influence on a child shifts as we mature. The influence widens in such a way that we are no longer just influenced by the parents that dictate our lives, but we are also now affected by an extended version of the family and our place in the overall structures of life. Much emphasis is given to the MC and the Ascendant in an Astrology chart. We also, however, have to consider the IC and the DC when deciphering what impact planetary movement will have in our lives. • The Sun

The Sun The Sun The Sun is the core to our identity. It is the principal and dominant part of who we are. The house placement and Sun sign determine who we are and our life’s purpose at least in part. The ascendant also has its part in this along with the North Node and its sign and house placement. The Sun helps us define our life’s purpose and is our creative life force that pushes us on our intended path. The Sun is the will to live and is also linked to our vitality. If it is well aspected in the birth chart, this will go a long way in offering a healthy and long life. The Sun is the driving force behind our personality and is depictive of the internal individual seeking to follow a life path, represented by the sign and house. The Sun along with Mercury helps us reason and they are linked together forming the conscious mind. There is a lot linked to determining our actions through the mental process and the Sun helps us determine what course of action to take. Along with Mercury it describes our final decisions and the conscious efforts that come to pass in finding and uncovering which road we should take. The Sun describes us. It is our basic identity and although it can be filtered by an emphasis in our chart (such as Sun in Capricorn and five planets in the fifth house or in the sign of Leo ) it will still resonate with who we are internally and our true identity remains intact even with strong placements within the birth chart. It could be defined as your best self, the one who resides within but also the one you are becoming. Properly directed and used in its most positive affirmative actions, the Sun is focused and determined and very self-directed. It is linked to the ego and when well-adjusted will provide us with internal fortitude and self-confidence to take us almost anywhere. When the Sun is poorly aspected and out of alignment (poor aspects do not signify a negative response, only challenges put in place for us to conquer) it can make us willful in a detrimental manner, extremely self-centred and condemnatory when judging others, seeking out their faults and weaknesses. The Sun is our driving force, our vital energy and is directly linked to our deeper purpose and part of the reason we have arrived into this incarnation. Seek out the positive and affirmative actions that are depictive of the Sun sign and along with the North Node find your purpose and the push behind your incarnation to create a core and central figure that you will totally resonate with on every level. • Venus Aspects | holmastrology.com

Venus' aspects relate to relationships, finance and shared experiences. Aspects to Venus We are working on this page and will be adding more Venus aspects in the future. Venus is the planet representing love and material rewards. It rules Taurus and Libra. Venus is associated with the Second House and the Seventh House. Venus is a beneficial and benevolent planet. Where Venus is found in our charts is where we will find grace of style, beauty and love. The transit of Venus is quite short lived and will only last a couple of days unless there is a retrograde influence. SPECIFIC ASPECTS Venus, a fast-moving inner planet, moves through the complete Zodiac in approximately one year. Transiting Venus moves so quickly through the Zodiac that its influence is not of great influence, only lasting a couple of days, except when it goes into retrograde. During retrograde (because it stays in retrograde for longer) Venus can have an influence on your social life, love and romance, and in some cases, your financial state for up to and including approximately one month. During the retrograde cycle, it is a time of reflection and review with these areas in your life, holding back any type of action until Venus goes direct again. Venus stays in retrograde from about 40 days. It is important to realize that Venus in retrograde will only impact a planet when it is within 3° of being direct. Because of Venus’ quick movement we do not write articles for Transiting Venus. We invite you to investigate the Transiting aspects of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto to Natal Venus however. These outer transiting planets can have a profound impact on Natal Venus, which lasts as much as three years. For your convenience, we have duplicated the outer transiting planets influence on Natal Mercury and have listed them below. • The Eleventh House

The Eleventh House The Eleventh House The eleventh house deals primarily with group endeavours, clubs and organizations that we would like to be affiliated with. Within these groups, we seek to find fulfilment and often as a group we define our ideals and ambitions. This is the house where we define our goals. These are often inner goals and through the discovery of these aspirations, we can uncover our contribution to the world. How we uncover this involvement may be discovered through the sign ruling this house cusp and planets found within the house. The relative ease or difficulty in reaching these aspirations are influenced by the planets in this house and the aspects formed through contacts with other planets. The eleventh house is also the house of friendships and the ruler along with any planets found within this house will define the type of individuals that we may associate with. Friends and acquaintances are often found within a group consciousness and gatherings of like-minded individuals. Planetary links and aspects to these planets will define the degree of difficulty in maintaining these friendships or relative ease in forming them. The fifth house is the opposite house to the eleventh house and often defines the love that we give out into the world. The eleventh house has to do with the love received, usually through friendship and group acquaintances. If the eleventh house ruler is under developmental tension, defined by the sign’s ruler and aspects to this ruling planet, there are often difficulties when it comes to a balance between love given and love received. Often the individual feels as though they are doing all the giving and not enough is returned. If for example you have Scorpio ruling the eleventh house, then the ruling planets would be Pluto and Mars . This would suggest that the organizations that you would want to be involved in would probably have metaphysical undertones and this could be a driving force within the structure of these groups. Much of your maturation would be developed through interchanges within these groups, would lead to transformations that at some point in life would cause you to re-evaluate who you are, and what you could do to change the world around you. • Ceres | holmastrology.com

Ceres is an asteroid which is found between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Its main influence in Astrology focuses on nurturing and protection, but has also been known to be connected to anguish and grief. Ceres Ceres is an asteroid which is found between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Its main influence in Astrology focuses on nurturing and protection, but has also been known to be connected to anguish and grief. Some individuals suggest that Ceres is connected to loss and that people will go to great lengths to regain what was once lost even if it means discarding anything that gets in their way of this recovery. The problem is sometimes we cannot regain what is lost. This is where the nurturing instinct and protection influences may surface with someone who has lost something important to them or in direct relationship to “something” that has been physically lost to them. The placement of Ceres by sign and house position will define what area of life needs nurturing and in what manner this nurturing can take place. A couple of examples might help. We will use both the sign and the house placement for clarity. If, for example, Ceres were found in the sign of Aries, what this individual needs and wants to give would be self-regulated. They would work diligently driving themselves, sometimes using force, to achieve their objectives. Action is what is needed and if for example this were in the third house, their needs and wants may involve their siblings or even neighbours. A great way to help heal or nurture that which needs to be nurtured would be through communicative techniques with this example house placement. With our example, the intellect would play a significant role in what unfolds. They would feel as though it would be up to them to move ahead and their priority may be to nurture what suits them or push for nurturing those siblings, but this individual would want to be the forerunner in what takes place. Another example may be Ceres in the sign of Leo. These individuals would really appreciate attention and even admiration if it goes to the extreme. Above all with this example, these individuals would like respect and to be noticed for what they do even if the actions were being carried out for someone else. They would want to control the situation but would have strong consideration for what the other person may want. If Ceres happened to be in the fifth house with our Leo example, the focus may involve a romantic partnership or their children. Enjoyment and experiencing life would be strong points with this placement and living life to the fullest would help in the healing process. Let’s look at one more example. Let’s say that this last example, the individual has a Scorpio Ceres in the 12th house. This individual may need healing through acts connected to sexual expression or through internal integration and eventual transformation. There would be a need or deep understanding of the mystical or spiritual side of life and a strong want for full understanding of these subjects. Anything mysterious would open doors to eventual healing through deep self-study or a strong push to help others through their own methods of self-study revealing anything that needs to surface. This in turn would lead to healing deep integrated wounds. Due to this placement of Ceres being in the twelfth house with this last example, this individual may work behind closed doors or undercover in some manner, as this work could be secretive or subdued in some way. They may work in hospitals or prisons or work as a volunteer for the underdog. With this placement, they may use their own understanding of what needs healing in others because they have lived under similar conditions themselves (knowledge through direct experience). There is a strong need for healing and also to be the healing agent when it comes to Ceres in the Astrology chart. It is a mothering influence and some say it is connected to the sign Virgo with Venus having rulership. So Venus in the sign of Virgo suits this asteroid (which is also known as a dwarf planet). • Sun in Leo

Leo As far as romance goes, in general, most Leo individuals give everything when in love, but need a partner that they can look up to. When it comes to creativity, most Leo individuals have their own particular flair for creativity (as do most signs), but especially so here as creativity is closely linked to the fifth house. Wanting to enjoy life and partake in recreational activities is usually a strong point with Leo people. They truly want to have fun and to enjoy themselves. This is probably one of the most spontaneous signs of the Zodiac (as are Gemini and Aries ). Leo individuals are usually very energetic and often have a flair for the dramatic. They want to be the centre of attention and would really like it if others had a good, positive opinion towards them. They enjoy being applauded and appreciate recognition for what they do. Much of what they do is for others and when they go out of their way to make someone happy and do not get the recognition for their effort, they are easily hurt although they will not show this. They do bounce back, however, largely due to their optimistic attitude and cheerful disposition. They are usually very confident and quite capable of being a leader. They are able to delegate the workload but would just as well do it all themselves. They usually have high scale ideas and will push to have them implemented. They are very confident, unless something within the Birth Chart suggests otherwise, and make loyal and constant companions. They are ruled by their heart. When they are cloaked with their ego, they can become arrogant and want to rule the roost with no consideration for give and take. They want control of all situations and totally believe in themselves. They can feel that no one knows better than they do. They cling stubbornly to what they think is right and even when they are proven wrong, they may still hang on because their ego will not let go. When they have learned to conquer the ego, which is a prime objective of many Leo individuals, they become very spontaneous and warm-hearted. They are charming individuals with big hearts and have a very cheerful and optimistic attitude towards life. They have many good qualities when operating from beyond the ego and are not easily hurt by others as they understand that only the ego can be hurt. It is said that these big-hearted individuals are often powerfully affected by actions taken or taught in their younger years. They hang on to what their parents teachings from their youth. If they were confronted regularly as a child concerning mistakes they had made, they can mature into individuals who do not believe in themselves as much as they should. Parents of Leo children must watch for these children becoming overly bossy. It is also important for the parent of Leo children to shower them with praise especially when very young. It is important to correct these children when they make mistakes but not to linger on any particular failures. Astrology 101 Leo is ruled by the Sun and the fifth house. Onyx is the stone of Leo. Other stones associated with Leo include Amber, Carnelian, Citrine, Danburite, Dumortierite, Kunzite, Labradorite, Larimar, Muscovite, Onyx, Peridot, Petalite, Pietersite, Rhodochrosite, Ruby, Rutilated Quartz, Sunstones, and Yellow Sapphire.
