Be prepared for action with the Mars return. MARS' RETURN The Mars return to its original placement in the natal chart by sign and degree takes place approximately every two years. Mars in many cases is considered malefic in its expression and often denotes aggressive action and conflicts which on some level require strength and determination. Before we go into the return and its implications and consequences, we have to look at Mars’ placement within the natal chart. Is it well aspected especially by trine or sextile with the Sun, Venus or Jupiter? Is it poorly aspected especially by square or opposition and in some cases conjunct with Saturn, Uranus or Pluto? This will help define what we are working with when determining the influence related to Mars in this return cycle. Because of Mars’ reputation of being a malefic energy, some Astrologers link its place in the natal chart as an area of conflict, but the resolution often can be obtained by facing things head on and believing that inner strength is part of our personal abilities. Mars is certainly in need of steadiness and control as well as direction and has been linked with accidents and struggle often requiring instruction. Many believe that Mars and its energies are something we need to worry about, but once again, we will need to look at the natal chart placement as well as other transiting and progressed factors present at that particular time to have a clear understanding of the energies at hand. Mars is also a timing tool and can be used when analyzing as something might occur and along with the Sun, Uranus and the progressed Moon, we will find that Mars can be quite accurate in determining when the energies are about to be released. Those that are in sync with Mars (Aries rising or Sun in Aries or a strong Mars placement) will find that the energies are more comfortable and easier to work with than for those that are not fortunate enough to have this present in their natal charts. However, it is always wise to set plans before jumping into action as this is when accidents take place or activities turn out less favourable than what we might have wished for. As with all return cycles it is a time for new beginning, setting new goals and plans of action. Mars’ return can help with defining when it is best to move ahead or stay put in our plan of action. In a masculine’s chart, it speaks of male energies and the aggressive instinct depending on what sign and house Mars is found. In a more feminine chart, it often speaks of the masculine spouse or someone who could be considered enthusiastic or aggressive or a prominent masculine figure In both gender charts, it can speak of a young masculine individual; as with Venus, in both charts often speaks of a young feminine individual. In both charts, Mars speaks of the sexual drive and ambitious, enterprising efforts made by individuals. When we are going to experience the Mars return be prepared for action. Sometimes we will need to anticipate activity, and other times, life just pushes us in a direction that often requires action, drive and a personal initiative. Sun in Aquarius is ruled by Uranus. Aquarius individuals are the visionaries of the zodiac and have the ability to see far into the future and find ways to make the world a better place for everyone. They are humanitarian and are very conscious of the influence they might have on their environment. If only they could spread the word. They are progressive thinkers with excellent reasoning abilities and they truly want to provide something for others to share and incorporate into their lives. Aquarius This is the sign of the water bearer which symbolically represents these individuals spreading their ideas and new thoughts into the world. They are quite willing to spread their word and are particularly happy when it is well received. Their intention is to bestow the world with new ideas and also involve others in this progression. Aquarius individuals are the visionaries of the zodiac and have the ability to see far into the future and find ways to make the world a better place for everyone. They are humanitarian and are very conscious of the influence they might have on their environment. If only they could spread the word. Their mission is a noble one with the general good of all intended. They are progressive thinkers with excellent reasoning abilities and they truly want to provide something for others to share and incorporate into their lives. They are sympathetic and compassionate with a genuine concern for those around them. Their ideas can be radical and even rebellious, and they are against any type of constraint. Freedom seekers, they reach out beyond the confines of what could be considered normal, extending themselves beyond rational thinking. They are often thought of as trailblazers with progressive, intuitive ideologies in the forefront of their thinking. Aquarians want to change the world and make it a better place for everyone to live. They will patiently try to shake others away from complacency, pushing them into new and unexplored regions of their own minds. As mentioned, they are progressive thinkers and anything that has become stale and no longer serves a purpose, they insist on changing. When their views are obstructed or interfered with they can easily become impatient and temperamental. They are very fixed in their opinions with an intention of providing what others need on a mental level. The thinking process is considered quite logical and they have a broad focus. It is all about evolution and bringing in the new with advancement on their minds. Aquarians believe they are right and will follow along a planned route towards a given target. They can be somewhat rebellious but have no problem admitting to this; some are even radical in their ideas and considered quite different. They actually enjoy this. If you make a friend with an Aquarian, you will never be bored. They have an adventurous spirit and love wide open spaces. There is actually a real need for freedom and a need to roam. Being tied down does not sit well with the average Aquarian. If you are in search for a logical resolution to a problem they will assist you in reaching a positive conclusion and then make you aware that it was you that came up with the solution. Sun in Gemini Gemini With the Sun in the sign of Gemini, a mutable air sign, those under this solar placement come from a place where thinking is the most important life force of their character. They are extremely curious individuals who intellectualize everything, often flitting from one thing to another. They are on a constant search, collecting data, internalizing feedback, and storing some of this information to enlarge their ever expanding knowledge reservoir. They like to be on the move, to keep busy and share their day with those around them. Communication is the key and if they are not sharing life with others verbally, they will do so using modern technology, never missing a beat. Some of these individuals simply skim along the surface, but much depends on the sign in which Mercury is located in their Natal charts. Other individuals under this sign will go deep into all subjects, again depending on the placement of their Mercury. Those that skim along the surface, often have a tendency of leaving things unfinished which creates a need to go back and complete the tasks of the day, although they have to deem it important enough to do so. These individuals have a love of variety and need constant stimulation to be happy. They easily become bored with routine and enjoy most things that life offers. Reading, writing and learning are prime objectives and furthering their knowledge on a wide variety of topics keeps them satisfied. They are in pursuit of intellectual stimulation. These individuals are considered friendly, cleaver and witty people. They truly like most individuals and most people like them. They make great teachers, are quite able when it comes to writing and communication of their ideas, love to share and display their intellect and make interesting and exciting companions. Astrology 101 Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury and the third house . The stone for Gemini is Agate. Other stones associated with Gemini include Aquamarine, Amethyst, Apophyllite, Blue Sapphire, Celestite, Citrine, Chrysocolla, Emerald, Serpentine, Tanzanite, Thulite, Tigers Eye, Ulexite, and Variscite. Sagittarius Sagittarius is the adventurer, the seeker and the eternal optimist. Those with strong Sagittarius tendencies are the philosophers of our world. They have an innate knowledge of religious doctrines or at the very least an inclination and adaptation towards this area of life and the ability to share this knowledge with the world around them. When life gets tough, you will surely find the typical Sagittarian forever pursuing and spreading an outlook that promises a brighter future. Sagittarius is the eternal optimist and has good intentions. They will assist those in need and will promote a positive approach to all of life and every corner that life reaches. They are forever on the road of “better things just lie ahead”; and although they are often quite content with their life’s direction, they never stop reaching for the top of the mountain. They are the philosophers of life and are ready to present a different approach to life with an ingrained knowledge that supersedes their education. Many are on the pursuit of knowledge and will gain much in their advanced schooling. Even those without formal education will seek to gain knowledge through life’s experiences. There are many politicians and clergymen who have strong Sagittarius inclinations in their charts, as well as judges, writers and adventurous people who love to travel to foreign lands and learn primitive cultures in order to attain some of the previous knowledge and make that part of their repertoire. Many Sagittarius individuals are great lovers of the outdoors, nature walks, camping and exploring. Sagittarius is the roamer. Sagittarius individuals are one with nature. They uncover nature’s secrets and exploring all of its facets. Let them roam and you open their door to happiness and excitement. House them indoors and restrict their freedom and you have a stranglehold on the adventurous spirit that needs to be set free. Most Sagittarius people are well spoken and will provide you with their point of view on many subjects. They have an inability to keep their mouths shut when wanting to express themselves. Foot-in-mouth disease found its place within the Sagittarius expression. They seldom have bad intentions but do speak their minds. They could contemplate a little bit more before they open up. This would result in less challenges by others who have their own opinions. Sagittarians are a kind and caring people, always ready to lend a helping hand both physically and emotionally. They have the good of everyone in mind. These individuals challenge us to look outside the box and to find optimism and grandeur when there is little hope of finding it. Make a Sagittarius your friend and be ready for communication and a life of adventure. There will seldom be dull moments although they can be subject to deep introspection and times of quiet. Enjoy your Sagittarius friend as they will always be at your side, ever encouraging you onward and forward in your life's quest. Information on energies related to Aspects to Pluto Transiting Pluto’s abilities to transform and regenerate are highlighted when it is traveling through the birth chart. There is nothing subtle about Pluto’s influence and you will be quite aware that something needs to be changed or altering when it makes contact. Pluto’s energies are abrupt and disruptive in their actions and the changes that Pluto is putting on the table need to be reworked and transformed so they fit life better. When Pluto is finished transiting through a house or linking up with a planetary placement, its energies will have significantly changed things and usually in a very permanent manner. Pluto is associated with actual death and is usually present in some way when someone passes over. It does not always mean literal death, but it does mean that a condition or life element is no longer suitable and change is needed. Therefore it does signify the death or end of a situation and then the beginning of something new. Pluto, as mentioned, is not subtle in its release and sometimes you have opportunities to make these changes, and other times they just happen with you having little or no control over the situation. If Pluto links up with Mars or Uranus, care is required and focus on not putting yourself into danger's way is important. If there is a square between these planets, there are challenging conditions due to the contact, and they come at you for a reason. Watch for arguments and aggressive behavior especially if Mars is concerned and particularly if the aspect is an opposition. The trine and sextile aspects are not as aggressive and usually suggest transformation at a high level and although somewhat challenging to accept, these transformations will benefit you in the long haul. Uranus is more unpredictable and this is the one you need to watch, if, for example, you are driving a motorized vehicle. Operate with more care than normal and never rush. Do not rush out to drive in fits of anger or after an argument. Take the time to settle yourself down. If you are confronted by an aggressive individual, do not put up a fight unless you have little choice. It is best to walk away whenever possible under this influence. These, of course, are extreme cases and normally, there have to be other aspects suggesting much of the same before these energies are released in a powerful way. There needs to be at least 3 aspects in a chart all saying the same thing before things necessarily happen and much depends on the other planets involved and the angles they are making. However, it can be a rather tumultuous experience and you will learn a lot from it. It seems to be human nature that we learn much more from adverse life conditions than the mild and mellow experiences. We may have to spend a little time meditating on how the energies can be released in a more gentle and positive manner. With this in mind, we will provide some details for each aspect and planet. Applying & Separating Aspects There are three different types of planetary movement in the Natal (birth) Astrology Chart. The applying movement is when the planets are moving together to form an aspect (unless in retrograde), the faster moving planet is behind the slower moving planet. An example of this would be Mars 19 degree Aries and Saturn 20 degrees Aries. Mars moves faster than Saturn and is approaching Saturn and will eventually meet up with Saturn. The separating movement is when the planets are moving away from one another. Using the same planets with Mars at 20 degree Aries and Saturn now at 19 degrees Aries, Mars once again is moving quicker than Saturn and is now moving away from Saturn. Finally there are stationary aspects. The planets that have been in retrograde motion or forward motion at some point appear to be motionless before moving forward or backward in the opposite direction. Even when a Planet is retrograde at birth, it will either be forming an aspect with another planet or separating from an aspect to another planet. The closer the degree is to making an exact aspect, the stronger its energies influence us in our lives. There may be some planets that do not be making an aspect but this is rare. This is known as a unaspected planet. There are varying types of aspects in Astrology. The major aspects (sextile, trine, conjunction, inconjunct, square or opposition) are very powerful in the natal chart. See our Aspects in Astrology. There are Astrologers that have noted that a separating aspect deals with past events or if you like, they represent finished business. Separating aspects have already been dealt with and will eventually fade over time as the aspect continues to separate. Some Astrologers believe that the acknowledgement and correction took place before birth, and we have already made adjustments to overcome whatever the aspect between the two planets describes. The degrees that separate the planets describe how powerful that aspect is in the chart. The closer the aspects the more powerful its energies are. A separating aspect represents perhaps one of the last things that were set in motion in a previous lifetime, but obviously this is speculative depending on whether or not one believes in the possibility of reincarnation. Astrologers understand the significance of applying and separating aspects and will define its intensity and help delineate the meaning of any particular influence in the Birth Chart when this is part of the delineation process. When planets are applying, it is understood that the faster moving planet is moving towards the slower moving planet and suggests unfinished business that will have to be dealt with during the course of this lifetime. Once again, the closer the aspect is to being direct by degree, the more apparent and pressing the energies of the planets involved. We have come into this life to address the energies. Only then can we come to terms with whatever the planets and aspects suggest. The applying aspects become stronger as time passes and the energies will intensify. They push us in directions that will assist us in dealing with the energies represented by these two planetary energies and the aspect they are making. These conditions are dealt with after birth. Applying aspects are suggestive of future endeavours that should be approached and dealt with. This is not to say that all aspects between planets are challenging-- far from it. You have to take into consideration the planets involved and decipher how well they work together and what aspects are involved before making a judgement call on how the energies will affect us. Remember the tighter the aspect, the more significant its influence in our lives. For example, a conjunction between Mars and Pluto is a very strong aspect, but if these planets are separating from one another and are out by 8 degrees compared to an aspect of let’s say Venus conjunct the Sun, (which is a much softer aspect) which is applying and only out by 23 minutes. The latter aspect would have a far greater influence in this individual’s life than the aspect between Mars and Pluto. It is important to weigh out the aspects and recognize whether the aspect is applying or separating when deciphering the energies contained within a Natal chart and how great the impact will be. The Sixth House The Sixth House The Sixth House is naturally ruled by Virgo , the sign of service rendered to others and this is primarily what the sixth house is based on. It could be considered a somewhat sober house, in that it calls you back to the business of practical living. The fifth house was all about romance and having fun and the sixth house is very real and functions on a much more serious note. In its highest sense, the Sixth House teaches us to love one another through selfless acts of service to others. However to promote this higher level of service, it has to be done willingly. Included in the field of service is our working conditions and environment. This is also a focal point of the Sixth House. Within this setting, we meet up with our working associates. Often with planetary links connected to the Sixth House, they will reveal how we relate to our working atmosphere and contacts. The Sixth House also deals with health matters, although chronic health conditions are connected to the Twelfth House . Much can be assessed in connection with our health when we look at the conditions of the Sixth and Twelfth houses , along with the Ascendant's aspects. The Sixth House is where we have the potential to clean up and strengthen our health through routine exercise programs and healthy diet. The Sixth House can also indicate, depending on conditions surrounding this house, eating disorders. The Ascendant, the Twelfth House and the Sixth House are important areas that can help us to pinpoint physical conditions, although it is always suggested that one seeks medical advice above and beyond Astrological indications. Astrology points the way but outside assistance is always recommended especially when health is a specific concern. Even if the Astrology chart indicate health issues related to these houses, these houses can be transformed into houses of wellness as there are many roads to healing, such as meditation and health consciousness which can be achieved through many avenues. There are many solutions available to issues suggested within the horoscope. The strong aspects (which will be discussed under "Aspects" as we further develop this website) such as the conjunction, square and opposition are the greatest learning tools available to us all. The easy flowing aspects like the sextile and trine create calm conditions and opportunities. We gain so much more from confronting our challenging aspects and making them work for us, instead of against us. We are never at life’s mercy. There are always alternatives. The Sixth house also deals with small animals and our pets, but in most cases the central areas of focus of this house deal with service, health, hygiene and the working environment.
