  • Sun in Leo

Leo As far as romance goes, in general, most Leo individuals give everything when in love, but need a partner that they can look up to. When it comes to creativity, most Leo individuals have their own particular flair for creativity (as do most signs), but especially so here as creativity is closely linked to the fifth house. Wanting to enjoy life and partake in recreational activities is usually a strong point with Leo people. They truly want to have fun and to enjoy themselves. This is probably one of the most spontaneous signs of the Zodiac (as are Gemini and Aries ). Leo individuals are usually very energetic and often have a flair for the dramatic. They want to be the centre of attention and would really like it if others had a good, positive opinion towards them. They enjoy being applauded and appreciate recognition for what they do. Much of what they do is for others and when they go out of their way to make someone happy and do not get the recognition for their effort, they are easily hurt although they will not show this. They do bounce back, however, largely due to their optimistic attitude and cheerful disposition. They are usually very confident and quite capable of being a leader. They are able to delegate the workload but would just as well do it all themselves. They usually have high scale ideas and will push to have them implemented. They are very confident, unless something within the Birth Chart suggests otherwise, and make loyal and constant companions. They are ruled by their heart. When they are cloaked with their ego, they can become arrogant and want to rule the roost with no consideration for give and take. They want control of all situations and totally believe in themselves. They can feel that no one knows better than they do. They cling stubbornly to what they think is right and even when they are proven wrong, they may still hang on because their ego will not let go. When they have learned to conquer the ego, which is a prime objective of many Leo individuals, they become very spontaneous and warm-hearted. They are charming individuals with big hearts and have a very cheerful and optimistic attitude towards life. They have many good qualities when operating from beyond the ego and are not easily hurt by others as they understand that only the ego can be hurt. It is said that these big-hearted individuals are often powerfully affected by actions taken or taught in their younger years. They hang on to what their parents teachings from their youth. If they were confronted regularly as a child concerning mistakes they had made, they can mature into individuals who do not believe in themselves as much as they should. Parents of Leo children must watch for these children becoming overly bossy. It is also important for the parent of Leo children to shower them with praise especially when very young. It is important to correct these children when they make mistakes but not to linger on any particular failures. Astrology 101 Leo is ruled by the Sun and the fifth house. Onyx is the stone of Leo. Other stones associated with Leo include Amber, Carnelian, Citrine, Danburite, Dumortierite, Kunzite, Labradorite, Larimar, Muscovite, Onyx, Peridot, Petalite, Pietersite, Rhodochrosite, Ruby, Rutilated Quartz, Sunstones, and Yellow Sapphire. • Moon's Nodes

There are two nodes of the Moon, the North & the South Node. They are known as destiny’s gate or the axis of fate. These Nodes have a karmic and spiritual relevance and some say they are the meeting point between the higher powers and humanity as a whole. This is where the spiritual energies enlighten humanity with their life’s mission. It speaks about where we should be heading (North Node) and where we have come from in a life that has significant ties to this one (South Node). Moon's Nodes There are two nodes of the Moon, the North Node and the South Node. These areas of the chart are always in opposition (180 degrees apart). The South Node has connections with our past, and we bring with us qualities that we can use in this life to help us connect with our current life’s mission. The South Node is an area or energy that we are comfortable with, as these energies are instinctively familiar. The North Node, however, is completely new and rather unknown to us. Most of us are a little uncomfortable with the energies of our North Node (NN). However, life tends to keep pushing us towards our NN objectives. We are linked to the NN as this is what we need to learn and to develop and use as our journey continues. It takes some courage in surrendering to our NN energies and direction in life. New areas are opened and revealed to us over time, and they are necessary traits to be acquired in order to facilitate the growth required by the soul. The North and South Node often provide us with information so we can decipher why we have come into this life and what our purpose truly is. It is said that what happens in this life is tied to what we have experienced previously. The North Node is known as the dragon’s head while the South Node is known as the dragon’s tail. These nodes although coming from different perspectives will aid in our quest and foster growth through life’s experience that will eventually lead us to where we are meant to go. The North Node and South Node are defined by sign and house position. For example since they are always 180 degrees apart, if you have a NN in Pisces in the third house, you will have a SN in Virgo in the ninth house. The house position is similar to having the ruling sign position. As a result, if, for example, you have the NN in the first house, it is like having the NN in the first sign of Aries. The SN would be in the seventh house which would be like having the SN in Libra. Between the energies of the Nodal sign position and the Nodal house position, you will get a good idea of what life’s mission might be. Many in early life are led by the SN node tendencies as this is a comfortable place. As we mature into ourselves, we begin to develop our NN abilities and move into our destined path. Back to Top Planets & Aspects Linked to the Nodes The planets and the aspects that link up to these two nodes should be treated in the same manner as any other planets’ energies in the Astrology chart. The aspects are also treated as any other aspects in the chart. The planetary energies tie in with the Nodes and emphasize what these energies imply. For example, Mars tied to the South Node may indicate that in a previous life you were a fighter or someone with a vile temper or a leader who lead others through force. The North Node tied to Mars may suggest that in this life you are to pursue your objectives with vigor and use your inherent strength to accomplish what you set out to do. Mars would give you the impulse to address what the sign and house position of the North Node suggests. When a transiting planet conjuncts the North Node, and if for example it were Uranus, this may be a time when you should follow the desire to break free from any type of restriction that has held you back and has stopped you from achieving what the North Node is suggesting. This may happen on the spur of the moment and without warning. It may push you in a direction that requires immediate decision making and the desire for something new and enterprising especially if the North Node is in the sign of Aries for example. If Uranus were transiting your South Node, this would suggest that it is not the time to do these things and that you should weigh things out before making any commitment to change and follow a new life direction. It warns of sudden decision that might hamper you later in life. Rash decision making would not be recommended. You should take time to ponder your actions before making any moves regardless of the desire to move ahead in a new direction. You could check out the house that your North Node or South Node are in to give you further information about what area of life is involved. You could also check out which house your natal Uranus is in to add to the underlying information being provided to you through your chart. In most cases, if you take the time suggested with the South Node (and remember the South Node has similarities to Saturn’s actions) you can make informed decisions rather than jumping, which is what Uranus would want from you. The North Node and Uranus however, would suggest that you take that giant step and move in that intended direction in your life, as the North Node is similar in its action to Jupiter and usually provides good fortune and positive outcomes. You always need to look at the overall picture of what is happening in your chart before making any life changing decisions. Back to Top Transiting Moon's Nodes The transiting Nodes take 19 years to move through all of the signs of the zodiac in an Astrology chart. It takes approximately 1 ½ years to move through one single sign. As houses depict areas of life, the nodes moving through a house will define areas of life where we are gaining knowledge. We get a deeper understanding of the areas of life governed by the house position of the nodes. Remember that there are two nodes, a North and South node, and they are always in opposition (opposite) to one another. Both houses will be affected by our nodes’ placement. The Nodes are attached to our soul’s mission and we have come to experience life more fully in each area of life that the nodes are influencing in the birth chart. In general, we are here to serve on one level or another and although the Nodes definitely teach us valuable lessons in life, once learned and understood, we can offer up information and assistance to those that are interested in the information we have to offer which will assist them in whatever way needed. The nodes are tied to our destiny so when we are experiencing our nodes in action, stimulated through house contact and planetary links, we have obligations to fulfill. Remember we came into this life to fulfill our life’s goals which are closely linked to the nodal positions at birth. We have to give a little of ourselves in order to complete our soul’s requirements, as we have much to offer. Our higher connection to self (from a spiritual perspective) and the earthly measures we take assist us in getting one step closer to our higher purpose. We have come to serve a purpose and to learn lessons through experience and to add to the greater whole. We are at the controls of our experiences but often when the nodes are under hard aspect, or activated through transit, we may feel as though we are at the mercy of life’s events and life seems to have control over us. This is when we have to use our inner guidance, our spirit guides, our astrology charts or those wise individuals that walk this journey with us to work through life’s events. Many times the overall plan behind our experiences may escape us consciously, and we have to find the faith in the process that is required and recognize that there is something much bigger at work than what is obvious to us in human form. The North Node always pointing us towards our objectives. When the North Node is transiting a point in our chart, it asks us to go deep into our lesson. It asks us to think about what we might want to do or where we might want to address change or gain through experience. The North node operates in the same fashion as Jupiter, so it offers us opportunities and provides us with good luck and generally makes us happy and more content in our life’s progress when we follow its energies. The South Node acts in similar ways to the planet Saturn. The South Node wants us to pay attention to what can be learned through the potential rough spots that we may encounter along the way. It offers lessons and responsibilities and makes us aware of our liabilities. The South Node makes us work on these areas of life which are in focus and the energies of the planets that are being activated through this contact. Although we may have to sacrifice or let go of something, it also offers up chances for spiritual growth through these experiences and lessons that need to be well learned. This knowledge will be used as our lives progress. Stay open to advice being offered from both nodes and use the energies of the North Node to facilitate growth in your life’s quest. Use the energies and lessons of the South Node with caution and care but recognize the importance of what is being said for your greater good. All aspects (regardless of which aspect it is) has something important to give. Leaving the door open to this understanding will allow the positive energies of all aspects to generate opportunities in our lives. Back to Top

  • The Sun

The Sun The Sun is the core to our identity. It is the principal and dominant part of who we are. The house placement and Sun sign determine who we are and our life’s purpose at least in part. The ascendant also has its part in this along with the North Node and its sign and house placement. The Sun helps us define our life’s purpose and is our creative life force that pushes us on our intended path. The Sun is the will to live and is also linked to our vitality. If it is well aspected in the birth chart, this will go a long way in offering a healthy and long life. The Sun is the driving force behind our personality and is depictive of the internal individual seeking to follow a life path, represented by the sign and house. The Sun along with Mercury helps us reason and they are linked together forming the conscious mind. There is a lot linked to determining our actions through the mental process and the Sun helps us determine what course of action to take. Along with Mercury it describes our final decisions and the conscious efforts that come to pass in finding and uncovering which road we should take. The Sun describes us. It is our basic identity and although it can be filtered by an emphasis in our chart (such as Sun in Capricorn and five planets in the fifth house or in the sign of Leo ) it will still resonate with who we are internally and our true identity remains intact even with strong placements within the birth chart. It could be defined as your best self, the one who resides within but also the one you are becoming. Properly directed and used in its most positive affirmative actions, the Sun is focused and determined and very self-directed. It is linked to the ego and when well-adjusted will provide us with internal fortitude and self-confidence to take us almost anywhere. When the Sun is poorly aspected and out of alignment (poor aspects do not signify a negative response, only challenges put in place for us to conquer) it can make us willful in a detrimental manner, extremely self-centred and condemnatory when judging others, seeking out their faults and weaknesses. The Sun is our driving force, our vital energy and is directly linked to our deeper purpose and part of the reason we have arrived into this incarnation. Seek out the positive and affirmative actions that are depictive of the Sun sign and along with the North Node find your purpose and the push behind your incarnation to create a core and central figure that you will totally resonate with on every level. • No retrograde | holmastrology.com

No Retrograde Planets in a Chart The energies of a planets in retrograde in an Astrology chart tend to make us look inward. Those with several retrogrades in their chart (and the magic number seems to be 5) tend to be introverted, even subdued and much to themselves. The energies have difficulties working their way to the surface and are stifled. It takes great effort to bring the energies to the surface and make the necessary adjustments to challenge these so-called deficiencies. Personally, this Astrologer does not believe in deficiencies. I tend to look at it as harnessed energy waiting for the opportune moment to be released. Those people without retrogrades in their birth charts are in the minority. It is said that roughly seven percent of people have this phenomena. It is believed that the energies of all the planets are released and given free reign and allowed to flow freely. This in turn can create an individual who may lack patience and they often avoid using a cautious approach. The waiting game is not part of their nature and they much prefer to move things along. There is usually great energy behind these individuals and they work tirelessly towards the achievements of their objectives in life. They have strong willpower and are persistent in their efforts to succeed. They move forward similar to Aries often advancing with little afterthought, if any, and they rarely disbelieve in their own abilities. As a result, they are normally quite successful. Some individuals without retrograde planets in their chart do fall from time to time; however, this will not stop them from getting back up and moving ahead again. Their determination is steadfast and they rely on no one for approval or even assistance. They believe in their own abilities and also stand behind their failures for they are valuable lessons. These lessons are not cause for alarm. “Let’s just start again and see what happens” could be their motto. “If it does not work this time, perhaps it will the next time”, or “I will just need to make some minor adjustments” would be statements you would hear from these individuals. They are self-reliant and self-determined. These traits can make them great entrepreneurs. They are willing to take the plunge and often without much reserve. Most of these individuals would prefer to work alone. This, however, can make them somewhat aloof and even distant as they unconsciously withdraw into themselves. They may even feel misinterpreted and wrongly judged by others, because of this loner type mentality. But this is only in extreme cases and it is wise to take into consideration the whole chart before coming to any conclusions. There are many things in the chart that can offset some of these characteristics, but moving forward and going it alone is quite common for someone without retrograde planets in their natal chart. • Sun in Sagittarius

Sun in Sagittarius Sagittarius Sagittarius is the adventurer, the seeker and the eternal optimist. Those with strong Sagittarius tendencies are the philosophers of our world. They have an innate knowledge of religious doctrines or at the very least an inclination and adaptation towards this area of life and the ability to share this knowledge with the world around them. When life gets tough, you will surely find the typical Sagittarian forever pursuing and spreading an outlook that promises a brighter future. Sagittarius is the eternal optimist and has good intentions. They will assist those in need and will promote a positive approach to all of life and every corner that life reaches. They are forever on the road of “better things just lie ahead”; and although they are often quite content with their life’s direction, they never stop reaching for the top of the mountain. They are the philosophers of life and are ready to present a different approach to life with an ingrained knowledge that supersedes their education. Many are on the pursuit of knowledge and will gain much in their advanced schooling. Even those without formal education will seek to gain knowledge through life’s experiences. There are many politicians and clergymen who have strong Sagittarius inclinations in their charts, as well as judges, writers and adventurous people who love to travel to foreign lands and learn primitive cultures in order to attain some of the previous knowledge and make that part of their repertoire. Many Sagittarius individuals are great lovers of the outdoors, nature walks, camping and exploring. Sagittarius is the roamer. Sagittarius individuals are one with nature. They uncover nature’s secrets and exploring all of its facets. Let them roam and you open their door to happiness and excitement. House them indoors and restrict their freedom and you have a stranglehold on the adventurous spirit that needs to be set free. Most Sagittarius people are well spoken and will provide you with their point of view on many subjects. They have an inability to keep their mouths shut when wanting to express themselves. Foot-in-mouth disease found its place within the Sagittarius expression. They seldom have bad intentions but do speak their minds. They could contemplate a little bit more before they open up. This would result in less challenges by others who have their own opinions. Sagittarians are a kind and caring people, always ready to lend a helping hand both physically and emotionally. They have the good of everyone in mind. These individuals challenge us to look outside the box and to find optimism and grandeur when there is little hope of finding it. Make a Sagittarius your friend and be ready for communication and a life of adventure. There will seldom be dull moments although they can be subject to deep introspection and times of quiet. Enjoy your Sagittarius friend as they will always be at your side, ever encouraging you onward and forward in your life's quest. • The Eleventh House

The Eleventh House The Eleventh House The eleventh house deals primarily with group endeavours, clubs and organizations that we would like to be affiliated with. Within these groups, we seek to find fulfilment and often as a group we define our ideals and ambitions. This is the house where we define our goals. These are often inner goals and through the discovery of these aspirations, we can uncover our contribution to the world. How we uncover this involvement may be discovered through the sign ruling this house cusp and planets found within the house. The relative ease or difficulty in reaching these aspirations are influenced by the planets in this house and the aspects formed through contacts with other planets. The eleventh house is also the house of friendships and the ruler along with any planets found within this house will define the type of individuals that we may associate with. Friends and acquaintances are often found within a group consciousness and gatherings of like-minded individuals. Planetary links and aspects to these planets will define the degree of difficulty in maintaining these friendships or relative ease in forming them. The fifth house is the opposite house to the eleventh house and often defines the love that we give out into the world. The eleventh house has to do with the love received, usually through friendship and group acquaintances. If the eleventh house ruler is under developmental tension, defined by the sign’s ruler and aspects to this ruling planet, there are often difficulties when it comes to a balance between love given and love received. Often the individual feels as though they are doing all the giving and not enough is returned. If for example you have Scorpio ruling the eleventh house, then the ruling planets would be Pluto and Mars . This would suggest that the organizations that you would want to be involved in would probably have metaphysical undertones and this could be a driving force within the structure of these groups. Much of your maturation would be developed through interchanges within these groups, would lead to transformations that at some point in life would cause you to re-evaluate who you are, and what you could do to change the world around you. • Ceres

Ceres Ceres Ceres is an asteroid which is found between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Its main influence in Astrology focuses on nurturing and protection, but has also been known to be connected to anguish and grief. Some individuals suggest that Ceres is connected to loss and that people will go to great lengths to regain what was once lost even if it means discarding anything that gets in their way of this recovery. The problem is sometimes we cannot regain what is lost. This is where the nurturing instinct and protection influences may surface with someone who has lost something important to them or in direct relationship to “something” that has been physically lost to them. The placement of Ceres by sign and house position will define what area of life needs nurturing and in what manner this nurturing can take place. A couple of examples might help. We will use both the sign and the house placement for clarity. If, for example, Ceres were found in the sign of Aries, what this individual needs and wants to give would be self-regulated. They would work diligently driving themselves, sometimes using force, to achieve their objectives. Action is what is needed and if for example this were in the third house, their needs and wants may involve their siblings or even neighbours. A great way to help heal or nurture that which needs to be nurtured would be through communicative techniques with this example house placement. With our example, the intellect would play a significant role in what unfolds. They would feel as though it would be up to them to move ahead and their priority may be to nurture what suits them or push for nurturing those siblings, but this individual would want to be the forerunner in what takes place. Another example may be Ceres in the sign of Leo. These individuals would really appreciate attention and even admiration if it goes to the extreme. Above all with this example, these individuals would like respect and to be noticed for what they do even if the actions were being carried out for someone else. They would want to control the situation but would have strong consideration for what the other person may want. If Ceres happened to be in the fifth house with our Leo example, the focus may involve a romantic partnership or their children. Enjoyment and experiencing life would be strong points with this placement and living life to the fullest would help in the healing process. Let’s look at one more example. Let’s say that this last example, the individual has a Scorpio Ceres in the 12th house. This individual may need healing through acts connected to sexual expression or through internal integration and eventual transformation. There would be a need or deep understanding of the mystical or spiritual side of life and a strong want for full understanding of these subjects. Anything mysterious would open doors to eventual healing through deep self-study or a strong push to help others through their own methods of self-study revealing anything that needs to surface. This in turn would lead to healing deep integrated wounds. Due to this placement of Ceres being in the twelfth house with this last example, this individual may work behind closed doors or undercover in some manner, as this work could be secretive or subdued in some way. They may work in hospitals or prisons or work as a volunteer for the underdog. With this placement, they may use their own understanding of what needs healing in others because they have lived under similar conditions themselves (knowledge through direct experience). There is a strong need for healing and also to be the healing agent when it comes to Ceres in the Astrology chart. It is a mothering influence and some say it is connected to the sign Virgo with Venus having rulership. So Venus in the sign of Virgo suits this asteroid (which is also known as a dwarf planet). • Mars

Mars Mars Locate Mars in your natal chart, and through its sign placement and house placement, you will begin to understand how your energy is activated. Mars is the planet of dynamism and action and instigates activity in your life. Mars specifically deals with the energy that it takes to deal with pressures in your life. Mars can be an aggressive force and when provoked will ignite the urge to fight and stand up for what you feel is your right. Mars is linked to masculine figures in our life, while Venus is linked to female figures in our life. Venus , among other things, represents young women; while Mars, among other things, represents young men. Mars is strongly connected to our sexual drive and ambitions in life. With a strong Mars, perhaps connected to Aries , Leo or Scorpio , the sex drive and push in life is exaggerated. The energy of Mars needs an outlet. This could be found in aggressive action, through violence and arguments or through mystical and spiritual avenues of expression. Mars when accompanied particularly with transiting Pluto (transits are planetary movements) will often be found in acts of violence or injuries caused through accidents, heavy machinery or sharp tools. Mars when transiting through certain houses can activate these areas of life and create new beginnings and fresh starts. Find how Mars particularly through progression (progressions will be discussed in a future post) affects your life and learn how best to manifest its energies so that Mars will assist you rather than hinder you. • The Eighth House

The Eighth House The Eighth House The eighth house is rather a mysterious house, although not quite as mysterious as the twelfth house . It is considered an occult house and many undertones related to the mystic have their origins in this house. The occult is closely linked to this house, as it is naturally ruled by Scorpio , which has its routes buried in the psychic underground This house is ruled by the planet Pluto . Pluto regenerates and causes one to delve deep into one’s own psyche and discover the undercurrents that push and pull us to where we are meant to go throughout our lives. Pluto is all about transformations, and life and death issues which is closely linked to the eighth house. Death and rebirth can be brought forward on many levels. This house deeply relates to death and rebirth. By the time a transiting planet passes through this house, we will have undergone a transformation which will focus on the energies of the planet transiting this house. If there are planets located within this house, such as the Sun, we will experience great changes to our core personality, especially if Uranus or Pluto are the planets transiting our Sun in this house. This house offers support and an interest to uncover our most inner characteristics which are found deep inside that places that we may not venture often. When an outer planet is transiting through this house, we may be forced to dig up issues that have been locked up in our subconscious for years. The support that this house speaks about occurs when we confront these so called demons that have been dormant for years and face them head-on to transform them into something that can assist us in our overall growth This is also the house of legacies, wills, inheritance, alimony and taxes. Depending on what needs to surface while a transforming planet such as Pluto passes through this area of our chart, these areas will be brought to the surface. Other people’s money is governed by this house as well as joint finances. Often these types of issues are resolved by the time a transiting planet passes through this house if there is a connection to these matters. This is the house of the unspoken word, and often there are other powers related to spiritual connections associated to this house. People with many planets in this house natally often have a marked increase in psychic experiences and especially when linked to any signs that are in the element of water. This is a powerful house and often the necessary changes that need to take place in a person’s life unravel during times when planets are transiting through this house. It usually takes a little time to uncover all the transformations that have taken place, as much lies beneath the surface and you will have to uncover the hidden messages that may be revealed during transits through the eighth house. Sex is also under the domain of this house and much can be uncovered by the study of this house to ascertain the sexual undercurrents in a person’s life. The sign on the cusp will help to uncover much of these sexual undertones of the individual and how they respond to sexual "content" entering their lives.
