Planetary Returns PLANETARY RETURNS All of the planets move around our Sun in the same direction and have their own cycle time depending on their distance from the Sun. The natal or birth chart is a snapshot of the heavens at the moment of our birth. From that moment on, the planets continue on their rotational path around the Sun and this continual movement of the planets is referred to as transiting planets. All of the planets eventually return to their original location that it was in at the moment of our birth (natal chart placement) but the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) take a long time to complete this cycle. Upon being at the same degree and sign that it was at the moment of birth, the planet has made its return. Each planet takes a different length of time. The inner planets move more quickly and the outer planets take a much longer time to return. We do not live long enough to experience some of the outer planet's return. - Sun in Pisces
Sun in Pisces is ruled by Neptune and is the last astrological placement of the zodiac. Pisces is said to contain segments of all the signs and may be our final step in our earthly evolution. Pisceans are dreamy to those individuals who are less sensitive & prophetic in their nature. Pisceans display psychic ability and have mystical leanings. There is something far away about many Pisces individuals and they seem to intuitively sense the emotional undercurrents that surround them. Pisces This is the last astrological placement of the zodiac. Pisces is said to contain segments of all the previous signs and may be our final step in our earthly evolution, depending on the level of awareness attained in this lifetime. Pisceans are known to be dreamy to those individuals who are less sensitive and prophetic in their nature. Pisces individuals display signs of psychic ability and have mystical leanings. There is something far away about many Pisces individuals and they seem to intuitively sense the emotional undercurrents that surround them. Piscean individuals are usually very compassionate and sensitive people. They have a soft spot for anyone undergoing life’s sometimes difficult experiences. They also have concerns for the underdog and go out of their way to assist others in need. They are extremely self-sacrificing and some can become vulnerable to the harsher side of life. There are those that would take advantage of their caring nature and exploit them. As these individuals mature, they sometimes learn hard lessons from the “users” in life and eventually learn to discriminate between those that genuinely require their help and those that just take advantage of their kind heart. Those with a strong Sun in Pisces simply need to have a purpose. They need a sense of worth and a driving force to push them towards their goal of spirituality. Life's lessons are understood as being prerequisites in this journey and many will martyr themselves for the sake of others. If they become caught up in unfortunate or misleading adventures in life, some will resort to the use of alcohol and drugs to escape the hard cold facts that life can dictate. Some resort to living in an imaginary world of their own and build walls of protection so their extreme sensitivity is not invaded. Many have a creative flair and music, the arts and creative writing are just a few of the boundless areas where this magical force can be expressed. When in love, they love deeply and are considered selfless and will orientate themselves in service to others, on a high level of spirituality. When in focus with their inner journey, they feel on purpose and the intuitive side can reach mystical proportions. Many develop psychic abilities as they mature into their role in life, although some become lost in confusion. Often sparks of the imagination can run rampant if not kept under control. The imaginary qualities linked to this sign are the motivating factor behind their driving force towards a spiritual connection and their inner strength as long as they are in focus. Life’s lessons often include finding their mission, creating a sense of self-worth and a meaning to their lives that goes beyond self. Through meditation and the practice of selfless living, many will reach heights unimaginable for those on a more physical, material journey. Pisces has been linked to the purity in spirituality and we can all learn valuable life lessons through this often misunderstood sign. Astrology 101 Pisces is ruled by Neptune and the twelfth house . - MIDHEAVEN OR MC
MIDHEAVEN OR MC MIDHEAVEN The midheaven also known as the cusp of the tenth house is a very sensitive area in the natal chart. Any planet in transit (the movement of planets through the zodiac) particularly outer planets, (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) or inner planets that are in retrograde motion (appear to be moving backwards) that conjunct, square or are in opposition to this point have powerful influences in our lives. In many cases Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will remain in this critical degree for a year or two having a significant influence on our occupation, our standard of living, our goals, aspirations and our status in life. Uranus often produces unexpected, sudden events when it makes a significant aspect to this critical degree. Neptune tends to cloud these areas of life making things unclear or it can add a mystical approach, while Saturn tends to create challenges, obstacles or lessons that need to be overcome. We are tested in these areas. Pluto transforms and may cause disruptions although much of what happens is beneath the surface until it makes a direct contact to this degree. The trine of these planets to the Midheaven or also known as the MC often provides opportunities and good luck with an easy flow into these areas of life, depending on what other aspects within the chart. The opposite house (4th) is often also affected, as when these aspects are making contact to the MC, they are also making an aspect to the fourth house cusp. The fourth house deals with the home and family particularly the mother while the tenth house usually identifies the father. The tenth house usually identifies the most dominant parent while the fourth house is usually the more submissive and protective parent. A conjunction to the tenth house will also present an opposition to the fourth house cusp and oppositions usually deals with something related to or coming from someone else. If, for example, Uranus were conjuncting the IC, it would be in opposition to the MC. We could, as a result, expect changes sometimes drastic in nature to the home and family, such as a move and influences in our occupation and status in life. These changes could be of a rather sudden nature and a need for freedom and breaking free in order to create change would be on the agenda. Much would depend on the overall conditions of Uranus in the birth chart and its location by house and sign. The MC, the Ascendant, the Sun, the Moon and the progressed Moon are often used to rectify a birth time, especially when Uranus and Mars conjunct the MC. Uranus and Mars often indicate something happening on the exact day when it becomes direct especially in conjunction. The progressed Moon moves one degree a month also assisting with pinpointing a birth time. Uranus really seems to disrupt activity related to the specific house cusp. The only guaranteed is something unexpected and sudden will occur with Uranus making contact which often causing disruption into that area of life. Be ready for change, disruption, transformation and activity when the MC becomes activated through transit or progression. Although the changes that take place may be disruptive, agitating and sometimes chaotic in their nature, in most cases, these changes are a requirement. It is best not to put up too much of a struggle, especially when Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are making contact to this area of life. In a year or so after the contact, you will realize that the transformations to your life and disruptions were beneficial to your overall evolution and were requirements brought on to enforce growth on a subconscious and soul level. PLANET ON THE MIDHEAVEN Any planet which is found to be conjunct (same degree) to the MC or Midheaven (2 degrees conjunct from the ninth house or 5 degrees conjunct from the tenth house) has a profound effect on our goals in life and our drive to succeed or our drive to make a name for ourselves. The closer this planet is to the MC, the stronger its influence will be. Since the MC is connected closely to our profession and public status, this planet or planets will influence our ability to succeed. Also look at any aspects from other planets to the MC or any planet that fits this conjunct criterion for more information on the energies of this aspect. These natal statements will certainly colour our profession and our ability to achieve in life. It has been noted that around 5 percent of the general population has this conjunction within one degree of the Midheaven. If you have for example Saturn within this orb of this Midheaven conjunction, there would be obstacles and challenging conditions linked to making a mark in life or achieving recognition for your efforts. Saturn, however, does offer great potential when you work meticulously and conscientiously towards your objectives. If you have put forth great effort, the likelihood for success is there but there may be some type of delay in reaching your goals in some way. We have the potential to make any aspect work positively in our life regardless of challenges attached. We may just have to work harder and have faith in our own abilities, however. If, for example, Jupiter is conjunct the MC, the potential for growth and expansion as well as some good luck especially if the aspects from other planets also point in this direction, will be increased. The sign and planetary link on the MC defines, in part, our occupation and drive to succeed. Having Taurus or Aries on the cusp of the tenth house or having Saturn or Jupiter in this place would certainly have a profound and different approach to how we would address our push for advancement and also our occupation’s potential. There are other factors that can determine what we might want to do for a living, such as our Sun sign and house position, our Ascendant as well as our Nodal positions, but the first place to provide us with direction would be the MC and any planet conjunct its position. Many famous people have planets conjunct this position in their chart. The Midheaven’s sign, any planets conjunct this positon and the ruling planet of the MC play significant roles in determining what might fit into our occupational profile. It also should be noted that if any angle especially the MC or ASC degree falls in the “Aries point degree”, the potential for recognition (even heightened potential for fame) is increased. The Aries point is any angle which is from 0 to 1.5 degrees in a cardinal sign (Aries, Caner, Libra or Capricorn). The closer to exact (degree), the stronger the possibilities. - Points in the Chart | holmastrology.com
The astrology chart has many important points. The vertex and anti vertex is a point calculated with our birth time indicated fated events or our destiny linked to meeting others who are important in our lives. Points in the Chart Vertex The Vertex and anti-Vertex are points calculated within the framework of the chart, one exactly opposite the other using your exact birth time. They are both connected to meetings with others. There is a feeling of destiny and karmic attached to the significance behind these meetings. Known as points of destiny, sometimes creating turning points in life. These meetings with others seem fateful and, in many cases, it is as if you have known this individual previously. The Vertex has similarities to the Descendent and the Anti-Vertex has similarities to the Ascendant. The Vertex, which is associated with others and our meeting, suggest a feeling that these individuals may fill something that is missing within us, (almost having the effect of assisting in making us feel whole). There is the feeling of having very little control over the situation and our meeting point. It feels fated in some manner, like it was meant to happen. The Anti-Vertex has similarities with the Ascendant, but it seems as though when we meet these individuals there is no choice in the matter and once again fated on some level. With the Anti-Vertex, these people affect us but not with the same impact as the Vertex. The Anti-Vertex people do not make us feel whole, but they can play a significant role in our lives. The experiences we share, once again, feel fated and affect us in personal terms. The Vertex and Anti-Vertex can be used in many different purposed charts, including the Natal chart, the Progressed chart, and the Solar chart. When connected with Planets or points in these charts, the Vertex and Anti-Vertex are extremely significant. The Planet that is contacted especially by Conjunction, but also by Opposition, Trine, Sextile and Square will define the energies brought forward. A couple of examples might be a Saturn contact suggesting someone enters our life who offers more responsibilities and may assist or hold us back in our objectives particularly tied to our career. This person may be older or someone in authority. If the Moon is involved, it could be someone with an emotional connection, or someone who is tied in some way to family and is highly sensitive. Don’t forget it may just be someone who enters your life because of an important experience that is required. Astrology 101

- About Us
About Us Holm Astrology's goal is to educate people about the science of Astrology and to provide our clients with the proper tools to accomplish and/or overcome anything in life. Self-understanding is the first step. Let Astrology offer insights to assist with your choices! About Us Peter Holm is an Astrologer, a teacher of Astrology, an intuitive card reader, a life counselor, a Reiki Master, a Practitioner of automatic writing and certainly a lover of life. Peter Holm’s passion for Astrology began to develop in the early 1980’s when he was advised by an “other worldly message” that he could be an Astrologer if he so wished. From the moment of that message, there was no looking back. Peter still continues his studies today some 38 years later as the science of Astrology is an endless study. Upon retiring from his “job to support his family”, Peter Holm nurtured and developed Holm Astrology into a reputable business but most of all, into a vehicle to fulfill his passion to help others Peter Holm wanted to share the knowledge that he has accumulated over the many decades and as a result of the “push” by several of his clients, he began to teach Astrology. Please see our calendar for dates of upcoming classes. A primary must in Astrology is the understanding that you cannot confuse an Astrology chart reading with the general information contained in a typical newspaper clipping or online sentence that speaks and predicts so generally for each Sun signs. Astrology is so much more than our Sun Sign. You may have your sun in Gemini, for example, but if you have several planets in Aries or several planets in the first house of your chart (ruled by Aries) you will relate far better to the qualities of Aries than you would with the characteristics of a Gemini sun sign as in our example. As a child, Peter Holm spoke frequently of spirits and issues that were not openly received at the time but he had someone in particular who listened to him. Without this positive influence, his gifts may have been stifled as they are with so many others that are told that they are “being silly” or they are told to “stop lying”. He is thrilled today that the world is become far more open to life beyond this material existence. As he has matured, Peter Holm has grown into himself and his gifts. He now is in tune to people’s energies and the quite voices of his guides and those spirits that have advice and information to pass on. Peter utilized the use of oracle cards to conduct intuitive readings which can be carried out in person or over the telephone or in your home as a group party (each participant's reading is done privately). Oracle card readings can also be combined with Astrology chart readings which brings two tools together to provide an even more extensive experience. Peter Holm’s focus is to assist those that come to him on their journey. All of the tools at Peter Holm's disposal are there to help others…through self understanding, ensuring that they are aware of the energy available to them which in turn allows them to recognize and utilize the energies available to its fullest. He offers guidance when clients are overwhelmed as we can become so caught up in the experience that we become blind to our tools, the lesson and our focus. Peter offers healing energies so that clients can trigger their own healing process, physically, mentally and spiritually. He receives information through automatic writings which is passed on as food for thought in his Blog . Peter Holm believes that if we do not stop and take a look at ourselves from time to time, we become complacent and stagnate. This life is a gift. Let’s live it to the fullest! * * * * * * * * I've just had my CTI reading (Combine Traditional [Astrology Chart] Intuitive [Card Reading]) using astrology oracle cards and my birth chart done by Holm Astrology. Peter very clearly and precisely drew out the characteristics and aspects of my past and my present. He painted a picture of who and more importantly why I am!! He then presented my future -- he has amazing intuition and knows how to present the information to ensure I understood the path ahead. Thank you Peter -- you have a wonderful gift!! - Saturn
Saturn Saturn is the ruling planet of Capricorn and of the tenth house . Saturn is known as the task maker and challenges you in your life, to uphold written laws, to move forward in your quest for achievement and provides you with the stamina and perseverance to stay on course. Saturn is known as the task maker because of its relentless pursuit in objectifying and setting standards in order for you to achieve your goals in life. Saturn makes you work for your rewards and only through a steady approach and applied pressure does Saturn’s rewards pay off. Saturn moves around the zodiac every 28 to 30 years and these period’s, ages 29, 58 and 87 are turning points in our lives. The first Saturn return, which occurs around the age 29, is extremely relevant to our lives and (depending which house Saturn is located in your birth chart) during this time many of us experience period significant to our relationship. Some will go through transformations within the home front ( fourth house ), some will experience relationship changes ( seventh house ) while others go through a transformation in their working environment and occupation ( tenth house ). The changed experiences will be reflected by the house. The placement of Saturn in your birth chart represents an area of life that will require your attention and usually unless Saturn is accentuated with mostly positive aspects, will produce stumbling blocks and stress in overcoming obstacles in life. As stated, Saturn is the task maker, but it is also the disciplinarian, the teacher and the one that provides you with rewards for all your hard work, or provides you with challenges and obstacles to overcome when you try to ignore its influence in your life. Astrology 101 Saturn is planet of Karma and restrictions and delays. It is the teacher and the task maker. Saturn rules Capricorn. It is associates with the Tenth House. Some Astrologers say it co-rules Aquarius but again this is questionable. The Sun The Moon Mercury Venus Mars Jupiter Uranus Neptune Pluto
- Mars' Return
Be prepared for action with the Mars return. MARS' RETURN The Mars return to its original placement in the natal chart by sign and degree takes place approximately every two years. Mars in many cases is considered malefic in its expression and often denotes aggressive action and conflicts which on some level require strength and determination. Before we go into the return and its implications and consequences, we have to look at Mars’ placement within the natal chart. Is it well aspected especially by trine or sextile with the Sun, Venus or Jupiter? Is it poorly aspected especially by square or opposition and in some cases conjunct with Saturn, Uranus or Pluto? This will help define what we are working with when determining the influence related to Mars in this return cycle. Because of Mars’ reputation of being a malefic energy, some Astrologers link its place in the natal chart as an area of conflict, but the resolution often can be obtained by facing things head on and believing that inner strength is part of our personal abilities. Mars is certainly in need of steadiness and control as well as direction and has been linked with accidents and struggle often requiring instruction. Many believe that Mars and its energies are something we need to worry about, but once again, we will need to look at the natal chart placement as well as other transiting and progressed factors present at that particular time to have a clear understanding of the energies at hand. Mars is also a timing tool and can be used when analyzing as something might occur and along with the Sun, Uranus and the progressed Moon, we will find that Mars can be quite accurate in determining when the energies are about to be released. Those that are in sync with Mars (Aries rising or Sun in Aries or a strong Mars placement) will find that the energies are more comfortable and easier to work with than for those that are not fortunate enough to have this present in their natal charts. However, it is always wise to set plans before jumping into action as this is when accidents take place or activities turn out less favourable than what we might have wished for. As with all return cycles it is a time for new beginning, setting new goals and plans of action. Mars’ return can help with defining when it is best to move ahead or stay put in our plan of action. In a masculine’s chart, it speaks of male energies and the aggressive instinct depending on what sign and house Mars is found. In a more feminine chart, it often speaks of the masculine spouse or someone who could be considered enthusiastic or aggressive or a prominent masculine figure In both gender charts, it can speak of a young masculine individual; as with Venus, in both charts often speaks of a young feminine individual. In both charts, Mars speaks of the sexual drive and ambitious, enterprising efforts made by individuals. When we are going to experience the Mars return be prepared for action. Sometimes we will need to anticipate activity, and other times, life just pushes us in a direction that often requires action, drive and a personal initiative. - Mercury Retrograde
Mercury Retrograde Mercury Retrograde Mercury has to do with our thought process and thinking ability. It has a great deal to do with our communication techniques and our ability to create ideas and formulate action through the thought process. Mercury goes retrograde three or four times a year, with interludes every four months (approximate). Its retrograde cycle is approximately three weeks in length. During its retrograde cycle, it appears to move backwards in the heavens between 10 to 15 degrees. This is a period when we would be wise to sit back and review what has taken place recently before pushing ahead with our goals. This is a time of analytical analyses before we move ahead. Careful study is advised and then when Mercury goes direct, we can move ahead with our endeavors. If by chance we have no choice but to proceed with a project under the influence of Mercury’s retrograde cycle, we can usually expect some delays or obstructions along the way. - Venus Aspects | holmastrology.com
Venus' aspects relate to relationships, finance and shared experiences. Aspects to Venus We are working on this page and will be adding more Venus aspects in the future. Venus is the planet representing love and material rewards. It rules Taurus and Libra. Venus is associated with the Second House and the Seventh House. Venus is a beneficial and benevolent planet. Where Venus is found in our charts is where we will find grace of style, beauty and love. The transit of Venus is quite short lived and will only last a couple of days unless there is a retrograde influence. SPECIFIC ASPECTS Venus, a fast-moving inner planet, moves through the complete Zodiac in approximately one year. Transiting Venus moves so quickly through the Zodiac that its influence is not of great influence, only lasting a couple of days, except when it goes into retrograde. During retrograde (because it stays in retrograde for longer) Venus can have an influence on your social life, love and romance, and in some cases, your financial state for up to and including approximately one month. During the retrograde cycle, it is a time of reflection and review with these areas in your life, holding back any type of action until Venus goes direct again. Venus stays in retrograde from about 40 days. It is important to realize that Venus in retrograde will only impact a planet when it is within 3° of being direct. Because of Venus’ quick movement we do not write articles for Transiting Venus. We invite you to investigate the Transiting aspects of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto to Natal Venus however. These outer transiting planets can have a profound impact on Natal Venus, which lasts as much as three years. For your convenience, we have duplicated the outer transiting planets influence on Natal Mercury and have listed them below. - The First House
The First House The First House The cusp of the first house is known as the Ascendant, which defines how we represent ourselves to the outside world. It is the first impression one displays to the world upon meeting someone. The sign on this cusp will provide information as to how we will react to the world. We will specifically discuss the Ascendant which as mentioned at the beginning of the First House is the first house cusp. This will be discussed more in depth in "Angles", a page which is yet to come As there are twelve signs in the zodiac, each one having their own persona, the first house has a lot to do with our identity. This personality is not necessarily the individual we are on the inside, represented by our Sun sign, but often identifies us through physical appearance. For example, Taurus individuals are either a little shorter than most or average in height and have a strong body, while a Gemini is usually taller than average and slender in build. As all houses represent an area of life, the first house is defined as a house of action where things happen. When planets through transit or progression pass over the ascendant or cusp of the first house, things happen, changes occur and transformations take place on a personal level, as this house rules your personal self and everything we reveal to the world. The first house often has to do with our vitality and often describes our physical demeanour. The first house may also be reflective of our health, although the twelfth house deals with health as well, but often chronic conditions. When a planet moves from the twelfth house into the first house it is often a time of new beginnings, fresh starts and depending on the planet involved, we can feel regenerated and ready to begin anew. This is an angular house which strongly suggests an area where life is activated, and many times it is not hidden or repressed. Others will be aware that something has happened as we make changes which can even be appearance changes. Our personality undergoes transformations especially when Pluto moves across the ascendant. Many times our lives go through transformations and relationships are alter significantly. Astrology 101 The First House is naturally ruled by Aries .
