As many of you know, a New Moon speaks of a time to plant seeds, a time to push into new adventures and forge ahead with things that we may have put on the backburner. Mercury will go direct (and end its retrograde cycle) on April 15, 2018 which it the same day that we experience the New Moon in Aries (9:59 p.m. EDT). Mercury retrograde cycle is a time to review plans and then once Mercury goes direct, we can push ahead with our ideas or plans. The combination of the New Moon and Mercury going retrograde is a perfect time to plant the seeds of our goals. I have read that some individuals connect the energies of this new April moon with truth and a need to forge ahead on some level. This could be due to the influence of Uranus’ conjunction to this New Moon. Transiting Uranus is at 28 degrees and the New Moon is at 26 degree and both are in the sign of Aries – the sign of energies geared to push ahead. The New Moon’s energy, as mentioned, speaks of a new cycle of energy pushing us to start anew with projects, with life objectives and personal plans. With this Moon phase being in the sign of Aries, this drive to push ahead is reinforced and we will be pushed even harder than normal. It may feel as though nothing can stop us if we decide to make that move. The “move” itself may be somewhat eccentric or unusual or it may point in a whole new direction because of the influence of Uranus. Both Uranus and the sign of Aries are geared for action, taking a new direction and pushing ahead because of the desire for change. It is important that you have been using the energies of Mercury retrograde and hopefully thinking deeply about what you are planning to do. Make sure that it is for the good of those concerned and that you are not acted rash and in an unprepared manner. Find a place within where you can review your objectives clearly and do not rush headlong into something that you feel unsure about or have not done you due diligence with. The energy will be powerful and the need to advance will be great, but the necessary planning should be in place before you move. Mistakes can happen under the “headfirst” influences of Aries and Uranus. Sometimes Uranus’ pushes for change and something new is exemplified with these energies and although in general Uranus does push for needed change, these changes can happen in rather unexpected manners. Find ways to germinate these seeds of adventure through planning and do not just simply jump ahead without forethought. Do not, however, hold yourself back simply because of a fear of failure. The energies of Aries make it quite easy to pick up the pieces and begin anew if necessary. It is a push and pull situation. If you are taking the necessary time to re-evaluate your options, move forward and plant those seeds. If you are certain about what it is that you want to do then push ahead full steam. In about 6 months’ time, you should reap the rewards of your efforts or if you did not nurture your seeds as you should have, it will be a time to do some weeding. One of the greatest gifts available to us is our ability to learn and then in turn, the ability to use these teachings to enhance our lives. There are many ways we can learn. As our lives play out, do we every reach a point where stimuli is no longer required for us to take the next step forward? Do we ever reach a point in life when we have truly learned all there is to know? I am sure each of our answers to these questions will differ somewhat. However, some of those tough lessons bring us to the most precious realizations and provide us with our greatest rewards. There are many steps along the road and each one opens a door that previously was closed to us. These could be doors we never expected to open or even doors we never knew existed previously. Our attitudes change as we learn and grow and often this change in attitude is the key that unlocks these doors. We learn much from open interaction with others and ourselves. We are the keepers of our own personal wisdom gained through our journey. No one learns from our unique experiences and life’s interchanges like we do. No one hears our internal dialogue and no one truly shares our experiences. We are unique unto ourselves. We are energy capable of unimaginable feats only limited by our beliefs and attitude. The Grand Square (also known as the Grand Cross) is an aspect in Astrology and it involves at least four planets, two oppositions and four squares. The first and third planets will be in opposition (180 degrees) to one another, the second and fourth planets will be in opposition to each other, while the first planet squares (90 degrees) the second planet and the second plant squares the third plant and the third plant squares the fourth planet and the fourth squares the first planet involved. A strong Grand Square will have all of the four planets in the same mode (cardinal, fixed or mutable). If one or more of the planets do not fit into this criteria then it is considered a weak Grand Square. The closer the squares and oppositions are by degree to one another, the stronger the energies of the Grand Square. The Grand Square is considered a challenging aspect because of the general nature of these aspects. They often produce stress and inner tension or offer a challenge that will require inner strength and determination in order to advance through the lessons. This aspect can either become the stagnation in the lives of those under its influence or the motivating factor that has the potential of producing great strides forward. When this natal aspect becomes activated through transit or progression, the individuals with this aspect in their natal chart will feel as though they are being pulled in four directions indicated by the planets involved and the houses that the planets are found in. They may feel over-burdened and paralyzed by life’s conditions. There is usually a planet that forms a tight trine or sextile within the Grand Square and the energies and house placement of this trine or sextile will often help unlock the potentials found within the framework of this larger configuration. This contained energy resulting from the aspect needs to find a release and this trine or sextile is often where the energies are released which, if used properly, can produce great results. These individuals often need to turn inward and find their own strength. Many with this aspect feel as though they cannot rely on others to help them through life’s difficulties and therefore become stronger over time and very self-reliant. This is not to say that reaching out would be a bad idea or that no one can assist them in their time of crisis, however, many with this aspect become reliant on themselves and motivate themselves forward conquering these energies which in turn builds inner strength. Most people with challenging aspects find ways to use the energies in a positive manner, and they are often the ones that push ahead in life and make something out of themselves as they become experienced in dealing with these energies. If they can find a goal or spiritual purpose behind the difficulties at hand, they can make their way over the hurdles and rise above any difficulty that comes their way. The key is to know that they are not trapped and that there is always a way out. It is imperative that they not beat their heads again the proverbial wall. The Sun, whether it is the natal or progressed Sun, speaks of your vitality, energy and your ability to recuperate. It also deals of the ego and your ambitions. It governs the success you are able to attain in life. The Sun also is representative of the Father and other male authority figures prominent in your life. The progressed Sun moves one degree per year and over a period of your lifetime will not move too far from its original position at birth. It will make semi-sextile to the natal Sun at 30, the semi-square at 45 and the sextile at 60. For those lucky enough to live into their nineties, they will experience the square at age 90. It will also make many aspects throughout your lifetime to other planetary placements in the birth chart, including the Ascendant. In order for it to reach the Ascendant, the natal Sun must be within 90 degrees of the Ascendant (11th -12th house) at birth to make any connections to this very significant placement. The effects of the Progressed Sun on your Ascendant would be a three year aspect and the middle year would be the most significant as that would be when it becomes direct (0 degrees in separation to this placement). This conjunction can produce both challenging conditions and easy reinforcing life conditions that will aid you in moving forward. This is due partly to the transits that will make contact to this placement over the suggested period of time. When a conjunction occurs, there are often potential opportunities for advancement in your profession. At times people in authority will aid you (if you experience this aspect) in achieving your goals and will become a motivating factor. In some cases these opportunities may come to the father. In a woman’s chart, this is often a time of marriage or engagement. This is an opportune time for meeting a suitable partner, especially if the Vertex is involved or Venus and Jupiter. The health is usually good when the conjunction has easy aspects from transits affecting it. One goal that you would have if you experience this aspect could be to achieve success. If, however, this conjunction is receiving challenging aspects from other planets in transit, especially outer planets, the chances for success are greatly diminished or you may have to work very hard in order to achieve the same level of success that the easy flow aspects would create. Much of what transforms depends on which planet is transiting the conjunction and its house placement as well as its house placement in the natal chart. You can also look to the house it rules in the natal chart to get more information as to how events might unfold and what areas of life will be involved. There may also some health difficulties although you would have to look at the overall condition of the natal Ascendant and Sun as well as any planets in the twelfth house (if poorly aspected) as this is known as the house of ingrained health issues. When the progressed Sun advances towards the Ascendant you will feel a draw to make changes to your life that would enhance your world. Some will make changes to their appearance while some become involved in exercise routines that enhance the body. The T-Square is an astrological configuration involving two or more planets in opposition (180 degrees) with one another and both making a square (90 degrees) to a third planet. This configuration can also be created in part by angles found within the chart. All three planets and/or angles should be within the same mode (Fixed, Mutable or Cardinal). The aspects creating the T-Square should not have an orb any greater than 10 degrees and the closer the angles are to exact, the stronger the influence of this configuration. Three degrees or less is considered a tight orb. The T-Square is considered less influential if the planets are in different modes, or if one of the points creating the T-Square involved is an angle (such as the Ascendant or Midheaven). The T-Square, although considered a challenging aspect, does provide its recipient with motivation. Through applied efforts, the energies from this aspect will often produce viable results and a general ability to achieve in life. As this configuration has three planets creating it, when the energies are not expressed in their proper function, the planets becomes out of balance, leaning too much on one of the three directions. The area of life where the focal planet (which is the planet receiving the square portion of the T-Square) is found in the chart is often too accentuated and those with this aspect in their chart tend to put all the weight on the opposite area of life of where the “square” planet is found. In other words, if the focal planet (the one receiving the two squares) is in the third house, we tend to focus our attention on the area of life represented by the ninth house. The area of life, described by the focal planet, its sign and also its house position can either be used creatively or become a source of frustration. Using the energies of the focal planet as they are intended to be use is highly suggested. The T-Square needs activity in order to function well. As a result, you have to use the energies of the focal planet in a creative manner. A T-Square used creatively is often found in the charts of very prosperous and/or up and coming individuals. It is often noted that the focal planet is the most dominant planet in the chart and must be utilized in a favourable manner in order for results to be achieved. If not used properly, the energies of the focal planet can become a “thorn in the person’s side” and often create conflict and struggle in this person’s life. It is suggested that the area (house) opposite the focal planet needs to be developed in some way so that balance is created. Individuals with a Cardinal T-Square have a tendency to bulldoze their way through any type of crisis in their personal lives. These individuals need to find ways to balance and understand the needs of other people along with their own needs. They need to understand that other people have their own perspectives and agenda and are also capable of deciding which way they may wish to move and of their own accord. The Cardinal T-Square operates in a similar fashion to the energies of the sign Aries. People with a Fixed T-Square aspect operate similar to the energies of the sign of Taurus and have strong willpower and determination to succeed. They build up their strength over a period of time or concentrated thought and then plunge into action. They often need to find ways to release their energy constructively and also develop sensitivity towards other people’s needs. Those with a Mutable T-Square have similar qualities of Gemini and are adaptable, changeable, versatile and restless. These individuals are influenced greatly by those around them. They will need to find balance in the way that they rely on others and understand that they can rely on themselves much more than they give themselves credit for. These individuals also need to stay the course in one direction rather than changing their minds midway and moving on to something new. As we spend time with others, over time, they pick up certain characteristics from us and we pick up characteristics from them. Are we particular with the characteristics we take on? It is said that we are a collection of traits from each and every person that has had an influence in our lives. If this is the case, is it not then important to choose our friends and those that we associate with wisely (as the old saying goes)? The obvious influential people in our lives are those that we choose to spend our lives with as partners. As children, our parents have great influence on us. The Sun went into the sign of Aries on March 21 2018 and since Mars is the ruler of this sign, we thought we would touch on Mars’ energies and give a brief explanation of the actions it can initiate as it transits through the Zodiac. Mars is the planet connected to vigorous and energetic action and will control activity in your life when stimulated through transit or when it is the transiting planet activating an angle or planet in the birth chart. Mars is the activated force that helps us deal with aggression or pressures in life. The sign placement of your natal Mars will define how this energy is forwarded and used in life. The house placement of Mars will define the area of life that your energies are directed towards. Mars can be forceful and dynamic in its action. It can be the energy that provokes arguments and fights. Mars’ energies are often active in times of accidents and violence. Mars is linked to the masculine figures in your life and Mars, among others things, represents young men. It is powerfully connected to our sex drive but much will depend on the sign Mars is in within the birth chart. Mars in Scorpio, for example, can suggest a powerful sexual push as with Aries as well, although Mars in Aries may be a little more self-concerned and address the area of sex quite differently than Mars in Scorpio. Mars always needs an outlet and without proper release on some level, the energies it represents can become quite provoked or feel stifled. Mars is also strongly connected to our wants and need to succeed. Along with our Sun, Mars supplies us with the energy needed in order to achieve in life. Mars is connected to beginnings and initiations and those individuals with a strong Mars placement in their charts will be the first to act in life, sometimes impulsively or without forethought. If, for example, Mars is in the sign Pisces this could suggest that the individual is seeking spiritual enlightenment. If poorly aspected in the Chart, it could mean that this person seeks to actively avoid challenging conditions, or could acts out in submissive ways. Much will depend on the overall condition of Mars and as suggested earlier which house it is located in. When Mars is transiting and makes an aspect to a planet or angle in the natal chart, its energies are usually fleeting (perhaps lasting about one week). The exact day, however, that it conjuncts a planet or angle can be used as a timing device if other factors in the chart are pointing in a similar direction. Mars and Uranus are used as timing tools when outer transits are activated points and planets in a birth chart. If Mars is making a connection in the birth chart and goes retrograde, its energies will last longer. In general, however, Mars’ energies will activate 5 to 7 degrees approaching a planet or angle. Its energies will begin to fade out about 2 degrees separating. When Mars transits a house, it can activate this area of life creating new beginnings and fresh starts. At times, failure or endings of some sorts or another is what is required to provoke productive action and open the door to a new beginning. As many of us understand, the Full Moon is a time to harvest our efforts set in motion previously (often started with the New Moon in the same sign some six months previous to the Full Moon). This can be the time when, for example, a relationship can move to the next level. Perhaps we have met someone during the New Moon phase and now we either find that the relationship moves forward in a positive direction, changes or the relationship is released, and we move on. The Full Moon we will experience tomorrow, March 31, 2018, will be in the sign of Libra. Libra often deals with one-on-one relationships and these relationships are normally romantic in nature. Libra is always looking to finding someone to share their lives with and many feel as though they are incomplete unless they have someone important in their lives. This Full Moon occurs at 10 degrees Libra, so for its energies to have a real impact in your life, you will need to have other planets near the 10-degree mark in your chart. If you do not have anything near this degree, the energies of this full moon may pass you by with very little impact. If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is near this degree (especially if one of these is also in the same sign) in all likelihood the energies are pointing to a relationship of significance (particularly if you have your DC conjunct a planet at this degree). Libra is always seeking harmony and peaceful conditions and its wish is to balance life and keep the peace. This may play into the energies at hand and keeping the peace may be very important. If keeping the peace is of importance to you, pay close attention to what it is that you might be giving up to have this all-important peace and harmony in your life. Balance out the costs. Transiting Mars and Saturn are conjunct one another and they are both square to this lunar positioning creating a T-square. (The Sun and Moon are always in opposition with one another when we have a full Moon.) A T-square often implies that there is a push for and even a need for achievement, but normally the individual will need to find some type of motivational energies to move forward. With Mars and Saturn together the energies are pushing in two different directions. One side of this energy wants to forge ahead and the other wants to stop and make sure that things are secure and in place before any action is taken. The energies of Saturn can cause us to be a little cautious and perhaps this is a good thing, as we would like to be sure that what we plan on doing is appropriate and that we are not acting on impulse. The house that Transiting Saturn and Mars are in within our chart will be the focal area for these life events to play out. Houses are always areas of life and this placement (as long as it is activated) will be the area of life that is highlighted. At the same time, Mercury while in its retrograde motion, will be passing over this degree and is in opposition to the Moon or conjunct to the Sun which suggests that this is not a time to make important life changing plans. It is often best to wait until Mercury goes direct before we move ahead. It would be more appropriate for this to be a time to review our plans and also make sure that we are doing the right thing. Ultimately, our harvest should be something that is important to us. What are your needs? Taking care of ourselves is not a selfish thing, as long as we are not intentionally hurting others. This could be a time of rather sensitive energies that we may be experiencing. Heed the advice of others. Listen to your intuitive nudges. Wait (do not jump on impulse) to make that move to ensure you have made all the preparation necessary. Mistakes because of a lack of patience could be costly, but fear can also hold us back from doing what is necessary. Take the time you need and your plans and preparation will have a greater chance of a favourable outcome.
