Shortly, the Sun will be in the sign of Leo. Those born within the first few degrees of Leo, or the last couple of degrees of Cancer are known as cusp personalities and carry both the signature of Leo as well as Cancer (inner self). The Sun’s orb of influence is 16 degrees. As a result, anyone born at let’s say 2 degrees Leo will have 10 degrees of influence in Leo and 6 degrees influence of Cancer. This explains how there are some blended character traits in the preceding and proceeding signs depending on your date of birth. There are also many other mitigating factors that determine personality traits, although the Sun sign dominates the “inner” persona. The Sun sign of Leo is a very noble position as its ruling planet is the Sun and its symbolic representation is the Lion, the king of the jungle. We all have fond memories of yesterday. Some are so pleasant that we have great difficulty letting go of what used to be and moving forward with today. Holding on to memories can be tantalizingly enjoyable. It can also be tumultuous and even incredibly sad, but remember these are just that, a memory. Some might say that today is based on our yesterdays and it is hard not to agree with this concept, but the past is the past. We can neither return there nor change the past. We must allow the past to remain there and move in new directions that are no longer relevant or significant to our past. It can be challenging for some to come to terms with events of the past and to realize that the past is no longer. Change is difficult for most of us. Some of us will fight tooth and nail to keep things as they were, but in so doing, we can be delaying wonderful experiences waiting to happen. It can be very difficult to take that next step or turn that next corner for the unknown can be intimidating. All change, good, difficult or indifferent, can create anxiety if we fight against it. Opening up to growth and having faith that we are always moving in our intended direction allows life to flow so much easier. Some people have expressed that life is relentless and so exasperating. They feel as though they are at the mercy of life events. There are even those that take drastic steps to try to alleviate change or to moving forward, to the point that they have stopped living productive lives. We can never give up regardless of the situation. We are here to live, learn and love. Why would we anticipate the worse for tomorrow? Does it not feel encouraging and lighter to anticipate something wonderful for tomorrow? Taking a step back and leaving tomorrow to tomorrow, do we not feel contentment living in this very moment (right here, right now) and realizing that ALL of our needs are being met in this very moment. Most of our struggles come from not receiving what we anticipate or feel that we SHOULD have. Sometimes we are simply fighting with ourselves. Sometimes we just want that easy route out. In most cases, there is no easy route for growth, but rest assured, life perpetually changes. If you choose to, you will find your way. Never give up on life. Stay strong in the face of adversity and find that little glimmer of light that is always there (but sometimes not seen). If you look hard enough, you will see it. You will find a new and more productive route to follow. The most challenging of life’s circumstances often produce the most magnificent outcomes. We are on our chosen paths. Nothing in life is too challenging if we decide to charge forward, no matter how great the challenge may feel at this moment. Stay strong and learn from these stepping stones. You will find the strength you need and you will overcome. Challenges are put in place for you to grow from. When we find the courage to confront these issues, we blossom in so many ways. Uranus is known as the awakener and it brings forth unexpected events. When it conjuncts the planet Venus in the natal chart, Uranus’ action (which is pretty much inevitable) seeks to either move away from unwanted or stale relationships or unite with someone who can bring forth new and adventurous conditions into life--sometimes both. Venus is the planet of love and affection along with comfort which includes luxury items. It is also connected with social events. Much of the action that Uranus will impose on Venus depends on the natal aspects between these two planets and the state of each of these planets in the birth chart. If for example Uranus and Venus are in trine with one another in the birth chart, the potential for a happy outcome and good things are exemplified. However, if Uranus and Venus are in square to one another in the birth chart, we can expect the unexpected and these events could be less than desirable. The effects of this conjunction in transit are usually quite dramatic in their nature. The desire for freedom and something new is often an offshoot with the meeting of these planetary energies. Much of this could pertain to relationships and if an existing relationship has been going along smooth, the chances for disruption is often possible if not probable; however, if the relationship is built on a solid foundation and has stood the tests from challenges in the past, it will undoubtedly be resilient enough to pull through the conditions Uranus may assert on it. Uranus wants to rebel against anything that no longer serves a purpose and pushes for new direction. It needs freedom. It is not uncommon to meet up with an “electric” individual who sweeps you off your feet during the conjunction of these two planetary energies. This new individual may be exciting and original in their approach, and there is something about them that pushes you in directions you may not have taken previous to meeting them. Often things happen on the spur of the moment and without warning; life just happens. Expect the unexpected is what you can anticipate when Uranus is involved and although this individual may be exhilarating, as quickly as they came into your life, they may leave just as quickly. This is not to say that the relationship will not endure, but there is potential that this new and thrilling person may have come into your life to create some very necessary changes and then leave quickly and expectantly. Uranus instigates and promotes change when the current conditions in life no longer fit the criteria that our lives now require. Our mental process and outlook is linked to health. A healthy attitude about life will often promote an improved state of well-being. Look at those around you who are in general good health; how is their attitude to life in general? A healthy attitude is said to be one of the important ingredients needed to conquer cancer. It is not a guaranteed that a positive outlook will cure cancer by any means but it certain is part of the cure and promote a healthier approach to the disease and any other disease we may face during our life time. Those that eat well, exercise regularly and enjoy a healthy mental approach to life are happy overall. Their ability to process and their ability to rationalize when faced with adversity seems to be far more positive and productive than those with a less than ideal outlook. There are many people who suffer from varying illness and chronic conditions. We are not suggesting that they can be cured through a healthy diet, exercise and a positive attitude but these three changes will not make these conditions worse. Anyone with a healthy attitude about life is happier, more content and many live long and very satisfying lives. A healthy attitude will do much to alleviate any mental conditions associated with chronic conditions, inherited illnesses or life’s unexpected twists and turns. We all know someone with challenging physical or mental conditions but they rarely speak of these condition or complain about their effects. We recognize these individuals as unique in some way and also strong will. We can learn a lot from these individuals. How many of us complain about minor ailments and conditions? We own our conditions and make them personal which in turn only feeds our negative focus. Some battling major illnesses also suffer financial stresses because of their ailments but somehow they still take on a very positive route not only in their own journey but also in the journey of those around them. If we are blessed enough to meet such individuals during our lives, it is important to pay heed and listen to their message and take in their example. If we truly see them for who they are, and not their disease, their message is often quite apparent and we can learn valuable lessons presented by these special people. If the soul has chosen to live a life under these conditions (and there are many around us who live with horrific ailments), these must be invaluable lesson that the soul wants to learn. Many believe that the individuals that have returned to confront these conditions progress or grow rapidly in the realm of spiritual knowledge and soul growth due to these conditions. Maintaining a positive attitude and having a positive outlook, regardless of the path we walk, is very important for a happy life. Health and happiness are partners generally, although there are acceptations to this. Keep a healthy attitude. Our bodies are temples and should be treated as such. Maintain your positive power. Be happy that you have a place in life and share this with everyone you meet. Generate a more positive life approach by living in that circle of thought on a regular basis. A healthy attitude is an important ingredients to our health and wellbeing. It is not a guaranteed that we will not face an ailment in our lifetime, (we do not know what the soul has planned) but a positive attitude will certainly promote a healthier approach to life, with or without disease. The power of our beliefs or focus is certainly an acknowledged concept yet many of us follow along life’s path without paying too much attention to our belief structures or our day-to-day focus. We realize and accept that we mold our life and our future potentials as a result of our beliefs and expectations, yet many of us are not overly concerned with where we allow our thoughts to roam. It is essential to recognize where we focus our thoughts on a regular basis. This is not to say that you have to become obsessed over every thought that we process. If we acknowledge the overall themes of our thoughts eventually we recognize the detrimental thoughts immediately and correct them to a more positive and beneficial direction. How often have you said to yourself, “I won’t win anyway”, “Why did I do that. I’m so stupid”, “Why does this happen to my?”, “I can’t....”, “I’m not smart/strong enough”, “I’m not as luck as you”, “If I don’t make this work......,”, “If I do not pass this test/examine......”, “Money doesn’t come easy.”, “Money is the root of all evil” and the list goes on. When asked why people think this way, we have received rebuttals of “I am just being realistic!” Do you recognize the self-defeating energy of these thoughts? If we allow our mind the ability to process as it desires, ego will become boss and we then we are at its mercy. We have the ability (with practice) to maneuver our thoughts in any direction. Exercise your mental muscle and channel your thoughts to your benefit. The masses, at this point in human development, have not been able to manipulate the events that take place in our lives but we certainly, with practice, can influence and control our reaction to each and every event we face throughout a day. Build your future today by molding your thoughts and reactions now. Frequently throughout your day, practice positive focus. Checking in to see where your thoughts are taking you. If you find them wondering back to negative focus, gently redirect them to back to positive thinking. If you know that you become less positive when you are tired or hungry, this is the time to pay particular focus on your attitude. Some of us insist that life is an illusion. This may be true. We are, however, still here experiencing this earthly existence, illusion or not. Why would we not want to create what you want from life? Understanding the illusion may be part of the solution. Objective, conscious manoeuvring of our thoughts and focus are one of the more conscious things that we can do each and every day. Focus on love, compassion and giving without measure. Is that an illusion? Understand that the life you are creating affects others and the general energy flow in this existence. The best example we can present to this world is peace, love and tranquility. Is this not what we seek? Lead by example. Living your life along these lines of expression will simply draw more of the same. We are the initiators of action. We are all one. We are all created equal. How are you going to utilize the opportunities and gifts you have been given? Will you see them as blessings and allow them to flourish? Will you not recognize them at all and squander them? APPLYING AND SEPARATING ASPECTS IN THE NATAL CHART There are three different types of aspects concerning the planetary movements in the snapshot of the Natal or Birth Chart. These are: 1. applying aspects, (planets moving together to form an aspect); 2. separating aspects, (planets moving away from one another); and 3. stationary aspects, (planets that have been in retrograde motion and are now motionless). Today we are going to look at the applying and separating aspects in the Natal Chart. All planets whether retrograde or direct in the birth chart, will either be forming an aspect with another planet or separating from aspect to another planet, the closer to exact the aspect, the stronger its influence is in our lives. There are some planets that make no aspects, although rare. If they are not making major aspects (sextile, trine, conjunction, inconjunct, square or opposition), they are very powerful in the natal chart. We will be discussing this at a later date. Many Astrologers believe that a separating aspect deals with past events, or if you like, “finished business”. This would pertain to something that has already been dealt with and will eventually fade over time. Some Astrologers believe that the actual acknowledgement and correction took place before birth and we have already made adjustments to overcome whatever the energies of the two planets involve describe. The degrees that separate the planets describe how powerful that aspect is in the chart. The closer to exact degree the aspect, the more powerful the energy is. Perhaps with a separating aspect, the flavour of the aspect is one of the last things that were set in motion in a previous lifetime, but this is speculative. Astrologers understand the significance as the aspect and its degree and will define its intensity and help delineate the meaning of any particular influence in the Birth Chart. When planets are applying, it is understood that the faster moving planet is moving towards the slower moving planet and suggests unfinished business that will have to be rectified during the course of this lifetime. Once again, the closer the aspect, the more apparent and pressing the energies of the planets involved. We have come into this life to learn and address the suggested issue and come to terms with whatever the planets and aspects suggest. The applying aspects become stronger as time passes, intensify and push us in directions that will assist us in defining the energies involving these two planetary. These conditions are dealt with after birth. Applying aspects are suggestive of future endeavours that should be approached and dealt with and transits that touch on these planetary links can intensify the birth condition and push you towards a resolution. This is not to say that all aspects between planets are challenging; far from it. You have to look at the planets involved and decipher how well they work together and what aspects are involved before making a judgement call on how the energies will affect one another. It should also be understood that a tight square or opposition in the birth chart has been set in motion in this life for us to overcome and could therefore be considered a challenging but advantageous aspect forcing us to make adjustments that in turn enhance development. Without challenging conditions in the birth chart (and there are charts that are very easy flow with many trines and sextiles) this life offers minimal achievement in life. It is the challenging aspects that push us forward and challenge us to find a resolution. Remember the tighter the aspect, the more significant its influence is in our lives. When deciphering a chart itis very important to take this into consideration. For example, a conjunction between Mars and Pluto is a very strong aspect, but if they are separating from one another and are out by 8 degrees, then an aspect of let’s say Venus conjunct the Sun, (which is a much softer aspect) which is applying and only out by 23 minutes would have a far greater influence than the aspect between Mars and Pluto described above. Be thankful for all of the resources at your disposal which are necessary to function and move forward each day. Take a moment to reflect on your own personal life (specific to you). The gifts that have been laid in front of you, in reality, are far too numerous to list. Take an honest look at your life and all the wonder it contains. Be thankful for all the challenges that life provides you with for these are your stepping stones for growth. Find that place within that brings you peace and contentment. Reside in the moment and appreciate that during this very moment you need nothing more than what you have to live....... very this moment. We are continuing our look at the minor aspects in Astrology. The Sesquiquadrate is an 135 degrees aspect and it has an orb of influence of no more than 2 degrees. The tighter the aspect to being direct the more powerful the influence. This is considered a minor aspect and is said to have similar qualities to the square and the semi-square. There is a confusing quality, however, to the Sesquiquadrate. This minor aspect is said to carry the qualities of Uranus. Its energies stimulate the desire to break free and to be a non-conformist. This aspect also carries the qualities of Saturn as it stimulates the need for structure, definition and discipline. Put these two energies together and it is no wonder that the Sesquiquadrate is a little vague. It is similar to someone fighting between the qualities of an adult and of a child, molded into one. One part of this individual wants to rebel against the structure and discipline yet another part of their personality wants and needs the structure and discipline. Because of these opposing behaviours, there is tension and unpleasant behaviours linked to the Sesquiquadrate. It operates at its best when there is outside assistance from other planets linked to the planets involved. For instance, if there were a smooth flowing trine from Mercury to aid in finding a solution to the typical issues face by an adolescent. Saturn wants to contain the rebellious nature of Uranus, as there will be times when the choices made by Uranus’s rash behaviour can be a bit disturbing. Uranus wants to reform and challenge orthodox Saturn to build something new and let go of old outdated ways and thinking. As you can see there will be quite a conflict of ideas and Saturn wants to win out because the tried and tested ways work better than Uranus’s ideas of bringing something new to the table. We are never certain which will win out, however. This is why we need assistance from another sources. Perhaps Neptune can add to the flavour of the combatants and add a mystical quality to the disarray of these concepts. Perhaps visualization and intuition hold the answer. One thing is for certain, it will take some time to resolve the conflict and for the conditions to evolve. Taking into consideration the planetary energies involved and the house placements will help to understand what the problem might be and perhaps offer some solution to the dilemma. Many Astrologers continue to feel that the energies of the Sesquiquadrate are similar to the semi-square in that it is a minor irritant that would go unnoticed without other challenging conditions within the horoscope to emphasize the issue. For all parents there comes a time in our lives that our children are maturing and developing into adulthood. This is a challenging time as well as an exciting time. We, as parents, have experience and we want to lend a gentle hand of guidance and offer the security that our children still need, although apparently they may not perceive our gestures in the light that they were intended. Our maturing children are entering this new stage of life with their eyes wide open. They are ready and willing to grab hold of opportunities as well as take gambles with relative ease. They will learn valuable lessons because of this attitude. As parents, we support them. We offer advice although subjective in nature and in a gentle fashion, and we guide them along their venture as best we can. They are open to everything although it may not appear this way and everything we say and do provide them with something of significance even though they may seem reluctant on the surface. It can be a difficult as a parent to stand by their side giving support to their plans and dreams as we know that this journey will be a challenging one. It is wise to offer advice and then step back to allow them to digest as insistence on our part will only be met with frustration and aggression. In many cases, at this age they are head strong and will follow their own judgement and will advance in their chosen direction regardless of our input, so we have to know when to let go and step aside. As far as assistance and we are primarily speaking of financial assistance right now, we can help when necessary but hopefully the ground work of responsibility was laid long ago. With ground work in place, we step back and trust in the lessons already taught. If on the contrary they waste this opportunity and squander our efforts then we will know better when the next time arrives, as under these circumstances they undoubtedly will. There are always times to help and then it is important to recognize that there are times when our financial generosity is not helpful; it is actually detrimental to their maturation and development of self-reliance. When these young individuals meet up with life’s challenges which you know they will, the best we can do is offer our emotional support and guidance and then stick with them through thick and thin regardless of their decision. They need emotional support during these trying times and we are well equipped to assist them in this manner for no one loves them more. When they make mistakes and take what we consider wrong turns in life, they need our emotional support even more, but we also have to keep in mind the workings of the universe and that things happen for a reason. The school of hard knocks always has their best interests at heart. You do however have to know when the time is right to stop subsidising their finances and let them stand on their own two feet. Let them take life by the horns and run with it. What great lessons these are in self-sufficiency, confidence, etc. Being a parent and offering loving support never ends and our children have to know that they can always depend on us for this type of support. Whatever you felt was missing in your youth can now be utilized with mature insight and worldly education. We have all walked similar roads to that which are growing children now venture. Support them every step of the way but let them be responsible for themselves and their actions. Taking care of others can be done on many levels and can be carried out by anyone regardless of age, gender or even geographical long distance. Loving and nurturing others is our prime objective in this life, but before we can truly heal others, we have to spend time on ourselves. In order to be healthy physically and emotionally, it is important to review and recognize any problematic conditions that we are hanging on to. We cannot remove or heal ailments until we recognize that they are there and recognize that most conditions have been created within are a result of our attitude and thought patterns. Problems often appear after a traumatic incident or stressful period in our lives. If not fully dealt with immediately, these events may scar us on a very deep emotional level which eventually materializes as a health issue. No matter how traumatic the incident may have been and regardless of who can be “blamed” from the event, it is our choice whether we harbour negative emotions (anger, blame, rage, self pity, etc.) around the events and whether we choose to make these events our own (make them personal and own them). We have to face them head on, and accept that they have happened. We may not have initiated the event but it is certainly our choice whether we will hang on to the experience and allow it to keep influencing our life. It is our choice if we are going to let it go, move forward and accept the lesson but not own it. The acceptance and release will also influence our lives but in a much more positive way than holding on. We have the power to heal all wounds and these capabilities come from within. We will not find the true solutions to our challenge from external forces. Only we can release ourselves from the grips of our experience and allow the past to stay in the past. Forgiving is part of the solution, but in many cases there is something linked to forgiving ourselves as often we take on the events, emotionally connecting to the events and make them personal. Revenge is always anti-climactic and never provides the satisfaction anticipated. It only services to tether us to the raw emotions of the past. Forgiveness allows us to let go and move forward. Forgiveness is essential for our personal healing. Forgive for your own personal sake, if for no other reason. There is a part in most of us that wants to assist others in their times of trouble. A caring, nurturing friend is a wonderful medicine. Loving and nurturing others is our prime objective in this life, but those that we offer assistance to must first want to help themselves. Unfortunately, there are people that perpetually live under a negative attitude and they refuse to take responsibility and to do the work necessary to move beyond their less than positive focus. Healing can be done on many levels and through positive focus and receiving healing energy from those who want to assist, healing can begin. We are all connected on some level or another. We share feelings, thoughts and can transfer energy that can assist those in need. Each one of us are conduits for healing energy but the acceptance of these energies will only flow without restriction when the recipients have cleared any obstructions they have created from within. Be a conduit for healing energy. Send out loving vibrations to those that are in need. We can be this agent by offering loving, light and healing energy.
