You can never over study the basics of Astrology. The basics are the foundation of any Astrological practice and the better you understand these fundamentals, the easier it will be when you begin predictive work. There are different techniques used when deciphering a natal chart and when predicting the energies for the future. There are numerous types of charts prepared by Astrologers to define the energies for the future (forecasting). The main two chart types used by most Western Astrologers are “Transits and Progressions” as well as the “Solar Return Chart”. These two types of charts give the overall picture of how a person’s life is and can unfolding. These charts can be commissioned for any specific period in time (future or past). Transits are the current movement of planets through the natal chart. During the transiting planets movement they will make aspects (angles) to the planets and angles in the natal (birth) chart which activate the potentials that are highlighted in the natal chart. The outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) move slowly and therefore will have a profound effect on the birth chart planets and angle’s positions and their unfolding potential energies. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto while in retrograde motion (the appearance of the planets moving backwards) can have up to a three year effect. Their energies will strengthen as they approach the direct positioning (exact same degree as the natal planets). The impact of these planets will have a lasting effect on our psyche and also create profound impacts in our lives. The inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter) move much more quickly and therefore their influence is somewhat fleeting. However when one of these planets go retrograde during its pass over one of our natal planets or points, the influence will be greater than if it were only in direct motion. The transiting Sun, Mars and Uranus can be used to calculate accurate timing, when they set off an already active aspect between an outer planet in transit and a natal planet or point. Uranus can sometimes be used in pinpointing timing on the exact day when it transits over the natal position. Progressions also have a profound effect on us, particularly from an internal perspective. The progressed Sun and the progressed Moon do have powerful impacts and can also be used to evaluate an upcoming event. The progressed Moon can also be used as a timing device. Astrology charts can be prepared to determine the areas of life that will be affected, what types of energy will be activated, the duration of the event, the best ways to deal with these energies and whether they are working favourably or may be more challenging. It should always be noted, however, that all aspects regardless of our opinion of them (challenging or favourable) can be used constructively and will inspire growth, understanding and life lessons that will be carried forward and which will benefit the individual involved. Our emotions are a hodgepodge of all that we choose to focus on. Our beliefs formulated from our past experiences can hold us in their grips, and we, consciously or unconsciously, decided to believe that events form part of who we are. We identify with events and in so doing, these events feel as though they are a part of us. In reality, events are only experiences. We believe we are an accumulation of the events we have experienced but this is not so. If a past experience feels uncomfortable, disappointing, or heavy, why would we want to hold on to this and believe that it is a part of us? Why take on anything that does not make us feel light, happy and/or content (which is our birth right)? Why would we not shift our focus to something that is (within this moment)? Why would we not want to begin this practice now? We have the ability to move forward in any direction, at any time, but we have to choose this. Why would we not choose exactly what is best suited for our advancement and well-earned happiness? We deserve and are entitled to contentment and happiness. Why would we not want to take control of our life’s path and accept contentment without reservations? During the month of March, 2018 Neptune is 13 and 14 degrees Pisces. If you natal Mar is in a water sign (Scorpio or Cancer) you will be experiencing a trine between these two planets. Neptune while in transit has been known to make life somewhat challenging because of its tendency to make things unclear. Neptune has a veil of the mysterious attached to it and as a result, it can be quite alluring. Neptune is also connected to the mystical and spiritual side of life. It is important not to get too carried away with the teachings of Neptune although it can also be quite inspirational. Make absolute sure that you have one foot planted firmly on the ground during Neptune’s influence. As fascinating and tempting as its energies might be (especially when connected to Mars which really wants to pursue whatever is in its focus), be sure that you wait until the fog clears before jumping into any situation. Neptune can erode away anything that once was once stable and reliable. Neptune’s influence can take you down many roads of exploration although usually in a very subtle manner. Quite often, the matters related to the astrological houses involved are subject to illusion and what once was is dissolved and no longer as it used to be. Mars has a tendency to push forward with its objectives. Because this is usually a very selfless maneuver when connected to Neptune, you may find that you are drawn to the underdog and various types of charitable organizations. This is a great time to dedicate some of your time to the sake of those less fortunate than yourself, even though Mars can be quite “I” oriented. Since Neptune is connected to the metaphysical and occult teachings, this would be a great time to study these subjects. You may have a strong drive to find out more and can learn valuable information through meditation, self-study and spirituality. The avenues of expression are more open than under normal circumstances. Applying yourself might bring forth great rewards and inspirational experiences into your life. Neptune is in its own natural sign of Pisces. It energies currently work well to build a mystical practice for yourself. Neptune is the planet of mystical insight, spiritual enlightenment and psychic perception. Currently, many individuals are experiencing a mystical unfolding that they have not experienced previously. Much of what is taking place could be attributed to this alignment of Neptune in Pisces. It will remain in its own sign until 2025, so we have ample time to unravel its subconscious undertones. Neptune is known as a planet of illusion so it is important to keep at least one foot on the ground, although imagination sparks many wondrous inspirational insights. When you look around in your immediate environment, ensure that during that scan you do not comparing yourself to others around you. As transiting Uranus moves into Taurus (May to October 2018 and returning in early 2019), Uranus will be making a sextile for those with their Sun in the early degrees of Pisces or late degrees of Aquarius. We are focused on Uranus moving from zero to two degrees of Taurus, so those that have these Sun signs within an orb of up to 6 to 7 degrees will be affected by this sextile. The closer your Sun is to this degree, the stronger the influence in your chart and life. Sextiles are aspects of opportunity and its energy flowers almost as well as it would with the trine in Astrology. The main difference between these two aspects is that with a sextile we usually have to work towards our objectives although sometimes they do fall into your lap. With the trine’s influence, however, the energies com through easier and with little effort on your part. Uranus in Taurus should offer some stability to the unpredictable natural energies of Uranus. Uranus will be looking for some structure and reliability especially with transiting Saturn trine to this placement of Uranus for a good part of 2018. From now (March, 2018) until November 2018, transiting Jupiter will be in the sign of Scorpio. It will move from 14 degrees to the end of this sign. It will spend some time in retrograde motion during this period. If you allow a five degree orb approaching and a two degree orb of separation and your natal Venus is Leo or Aquarius from the 9 degree mark up to and including 2 degrees of either Virgo or Pisces), you will have this square affecting you over the suggested period of time. Jupiter and Venus together known as the greater and lesser fortunate have much in common. The energies of both of these planets harvest good fortune, bring happiness and love and also an appreciation for life’s magical moments. Jupiter expands everything it touches and Venus brings love and affection to the forefront. Both planets speak of financial opportunities and both bring good luck and good times to the forefront. We wait for these two planets to combine in the sky and make aspects to our natal positioning of planets and significant points. The only potential problems with this combination (because this aspect we are discussing is a square which usually suggests some challenging conditions along with hurdles to overcome) is that if this is a time of love and romance (which is often suggested with Venus in the picture) you may blow things a little out of proportion. As mentioned, Jupiter expands on things and also makes life fortunate and appealing when joined with Venus. Make sure that what you are experiencing is as huge as it feels, particularly so if Neptune plays a part in this equation. In general, affection and love are part of the process, but there are circumstances that the person you are attracted to can bring hardships. This, however, should not stop you from pursuing the person of your dreams if they are who you believe them to be. Be sure to see them for who they truly are and do not build on something that is created only in your mind. You may find that you are a bit impulsive at this time, and jumping without proper forethought is not advised. This can be a great time for socializing and just plain having fun. Enjoy life; have fun with the energies at hand. Some individuals will travel during this time and find love and affection during these travels. Once again, see everything for what it truly is and understand that the relationships with many of those we meet under this aspect can be short lived especially if Uranus is involved in the equation. You will probably enjoy the wide open spaces and the beauty that surrounds you, but you really do not need to travel to find this. Often this is right in your own back yard. Watch for overspending and the feeling that nothing can go wrong. Transiting Saturn will be in the sign of Capricorn all of 2018 and will move from 7 degrees in February, 2018 and turn retrograde (appear to be moving backwards) in mid-April, 2018 at 9 degrees. It will reverse back to 2 degrees and then go direct once again in early October, 2018. Saturn’s energy in retrograde works more favourably then when it is in direct motion. Its energies are refocused, and rather than stifling and restricting, they are more favourable. With dedicated work and discipline, you can get much accomplished while building a strong foundation under the retrograde influence. The Sun in an astrology chart has to do with goals and aspirations and when in sextile to Saturn some of these goals may become quite attainable, particularly those that you have been working towards over the past year or so. Saturn does not do well with quick decisions and new starts unless the aim is to correct, reformulate or generate something that will be fruitful for a long time to come. The sextile always implies that opportunities are at hand especially if there are other factors in the chart that indicate similar energies. If, for example, you have Jupiter or Venus in positive aspect to the Natal Sun, the chances for advancement are increased. If Mercury is involved then this will be a time of planning and using your mental focus to form prime directives that can be very useful in the future. If a plan needs to come together now and you have done the preliminary work, this may be a great time to forge ahead, although the steady approach works best. Rushing in is never suggested and do not expect immediately results, although while Saturn is in retrograde its energies and steadfastness is pushed to the forefront and opportunities may come your way. If this is work related in your chart (house location), this is a good time for recognition of hard work and diligent efforts. Those in positions of authority might recognize the effort you have been applying in your job. Some may find that recognition comes through financial rewards; others may find that they now seem to have more responsibilities but much depends on the overall condition of the natal chart. Review the house your natal Pisces Sun is located in within the birth chart, as this will be the area of life that might be affected and also have a look at where transiting Saturn is in your natal chart to provide you with further indicators of how the energies may pan out and what other factors are involved. The house that transiting Saturn is moving through may provide the momentum to propel you forward, while the house that the natal Sun is in will be the area of life that now has opportunities for advancement. As mentioned, always have a close look at the natal condition of your Sun as any factors will have a part in how easily or how challenging the conditions will be while trying to move ahead under this influence.
