We have all heard the saying “live today like it’s your last” or something similar. If this were the case, how WOULD you live today?

Would you make any changes or just move forward in the same direction and with the same intension?

Let’s say that perhaps you had 6 months left to walk this earth. Now, how would you live it and would you change anything about who you are, the way you represent yourself, or the life you lead?

Would you pay more attention to those you love?

Would you forgive those that may have done something you disapprove of?

Would you change work or your attitude towards the benefits of your work?

Would you treat people differently?

Would you pay more attention to the details?

Would you spend time in nature acknowledging its beauty and tranquility?

Would you travel more, go out with your friends more, love life just a little bit more?

Would you recognize the true value of friendships?

Would you spend more time with family and pay particular attention to those that you love?

Would you work towards reconciliation with those that have become estranged?

Do not let the negative chatter get in the way of progress. Go for it. While the momentum is favourable, take that first step forward.

If you have noticed that life seems to be opening doors for you right now, take advantage of this energy. Opportunities are not always frequent and sitting back without putting in any effort is not always the best choice. Your efforts can accelerate progress when life is moving along nicely.

What can you do to make something lasting or beneficial take hold?

You are likely getting little hints about the next steps you should take but perhaps fear of failure is holding you back. You might want to ask yourself is that fear valid or is it just your mind playing games with you. Do not let the negative chatter get in the way of progress.

Fear based assumptions are just that, assumptions. They are seldom based on reality and in many cases, our mind can disproportionately snowball a concern if allowed to run with a concept.

UNDERSTANDING HUMAN BEHAVIOR

Human behavior varies so significantly from one individual to another that trying to comprehend the “why” behind behavior can be almost impossible. We are all different and convey our message in different tones, under different conditions and with varying degrees of sentiment and emotion.

Many conversations take place spontaneously in the moment, although others are carefully thought out and practice ahead of time.

With some people, they are that fickle that what is said in this moment can be taken with a grain of salt in the next.

If a serious conversation triggers worry and anxiety, a calm, caring demeanor can help the situation and make the other person more comfortable. Sometimes these conversations can be a heads up for our benefit and in other situations there is a need for the speaker to unload. An ear for listening and maybe gentle reassurance is all that is needed.

How do we truly understand human behavior?

Unless we have taken steps in someone else’s shoes, we likely have no concept of their journey. Words can convey a sentiment, but the meaning is interpreted differently by each set of ears that listen. We can only understand from our own vantage point and experience.

When we verbally dump our baggage, who are we really talking to?

The only person that truly understands what we are say is self.

Compassion connects us even if we cannot fully perceive what someone else is trying to say. We will never truly understand human behavior and perhaps that understanding is not important.

Understanding our own behavior should be highlighted. Self-understanding can help alleviate concerns or stressors we may experiences.

We are complex creatures open to suggestion, at least most of us. We can learn from one another, especially when we discuss with others who have experienced what we are going through. Experience is the best teacher.

Understanding human behavior might be difficult, but it is made easier with a compassionate heart.
