It is important when delineate an aspect between transiting Neptune to Mercury to take a close look at how Mercury is aspected in the birth chart. The natal aspect can either soften the transit or challenge it, regardless of what the current transiting aspect is. For example, if Mercury is trine to Jupiter, sextile to the Sun and conjunct Venus in the birth chart, any transiting aspect would not be very challenging. If, however, Mercury is square to Saturn, in opposition to Uranus and also square Neptune, this would cause great stress when activated through transit or progression. Any aspect to Mercury in the birth chart will also be activated during this transit, especially so if in close aspect by degree of separation in the birth chart. It is also necessary to look at the house Neptune is transiting as well as its placement in the birth chart, as this will help define what area of life is being affected. With this information at hand, a conjunction between Mercury and transiting Neptune can be quite difficult to handle. As Mercury rules the mind and thinking process, analytical abilities can be misunderstood or unclear. You can be “way off” in your rational of a situation and restructuring of your life is not recommended until this transit is over. Decision making can be off and if in business you could not be getting the proper information or someone could be deceiving you. Others may also have trouble making sense of what you might be trying to convey. On the positive side of this aspect, the mind is now open to the subtle influences of mystical and inspirational messages from beyond. You could experience amazing clarity in vision as your mind is more open to such things. While Saturn is in opposition to the Midheaven (which identifies your occupation), it is also in conjunction to the IC (which identifies your roots and home and family). The focus on these two aspects of Saturn is to make sure that one of these areas of life (MC or IC) does not interfere with your responsibilities to the other area. You may find that you tend to neglect one in favour of the advancement of the other area during this aspect. Quite often the emphasis is on the home environment and family and there seems to be a lot of energy invested in this area of life. Jupiter takes approximately 12 years to move through the entire zodiac. Jupiter will enter the sign of Libra on September 10, 2016 and remain in that sign for 13 months. During this period, take a look at which house or houses Jupiter will be transiting and the aspects it will make during its cycle. Any grouping of planets or angles in close proximity to the same degree will emphasize Jupiter’s energy and have an impact in your life. For example if you have the Moon, Mars, Neptune and Pluto all around the 23 degree mark, say within 3 degrees then when transiting Jupiter moves to this degree which will be in January/February of 2017 all of these areas of life represented by their energies will be affected. This would be an influential aspect because Jupiter will go into retrograde at 23 degree and 8 minutes Libra and be very powerful if you have planets or angles at or near this degree. Most individuals experience a mid-life turning point at ages 38-44. We all need time to process what goes on in our lives. There are times when we experience traumatic events that even those that are very close to us have no concept of what we are experiencing emotionally. Transiting Saturn has been squaring transiting Neptune since the early spring of this year (2016) and will continue to remain in this aspect until early November, when it finally moves out of orb of Neptune. If you have natal planets in and around 10 degrees of any sign (within the orb of 7-17degrees), you will have been experiencing the energies of this transiting square between these two energies. It would be particularly powerful if you have either a planet or angle in Sagittarius or Pisces, as this would be square one of these transiting planets or conjunct one of them. If you have both Sagittarius and Pisces influenced in your natal chart, this would be a very powerful combination. Saturn squaring Neptune tends to stifle the energies of Neptune and at the same time when this transit is finished, it will have built a solid structure in regards to what the energies represent. Have a look at what houses will be affected to give you further information as to how these energies are unfolding. Saturn is the great disciplinarian and teacher and will make things move slowly or even completely stop Neptune’s energies. Neptune has to do with spirituality and psychic inspiration, visions, clairvoyance and other energies along this line. With Saturn and Neptune squaring one another, you may have found that your pursuit towards psychic endeavours has been held up and stalled, almost as though your resolve is being tested. If you are psychic, you may find it challenging to read or receive. We are all psychic in our own ways so you are not alone in these abilities. Although Saturn is making things a little challenging and you may feel somewhat stagnated or held back. Any planet or angle in this degree will be defined by house position, a highly energized area connecting the energies of these two planets. Midpoints bring into focus one more ingredient into the equation and will be highly focused during this entire period. Even if you do not have planets in these areas, the same energies are still affecting you but perhaps not in such an intrusive way. The progressed chart is another tool available to an Astrologer. The progressed chart, along with transits and the solar chart (for a year from birthday to birthday) are the three main factors in determining how the energies of the planets will unfold over the coming year. Advanced Astrologers can also use the midpoints and more in the delineation of events and timing. The progressed Sun, Midheaven and Ascendant all move approximately one degree of arc each year, as well as all the house cusps. This varies minutely each year. The Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars all have a three year affect, while the outer planets move much slower and their orb of influence is very tight. Some Astrologers use a 10-15 minute orb of influence with the outer planets. Each day of life after birth equals one year of life in a progressed chart, so your chart will have moved a full 30 days forward at age 31. The first year of life is the first day of life. The progressed Sun, Midheaven and Ascendant are very significant in the progressed chart, just as they are in the birth or natal chart. The angular points (MC-Midheaven, ASC-Ascendant, DC-Descendant and IC-Immum Coeli) are activity areas of the astrology chart. We can call them action points. These are very important indicators as to when activity will take place. These angular points become active when a planet is within one degree of being direct to their degree. However, activity or intensity increases the closer they move to being direct (or at the same degree). The progressed planets when in conjunct (0 degrees) to one of these angular house cusps will play a significant role that year of life and the energies will mix with the sign on the cusp of the house. The progressed Moon moves approximately one degree per month and when activated this time is often suggestive of change on some level and/or some emotional interaction. It can also be used as a timer. The Moon’s influence would be 3 months, one degree approaching, one degree while direct and one degree while separating. Each degree equals one month of time. If, therefore, a planet is at 12 degrees of a sign, the progressed Moon will be active from 11-13 degrees of that sign or in major aspect forming an angle to this placement in the chart. The progressed chart is very similar when being delineated as the natal chart, but the orb of influence is not as wide, at least in my opinion. The influence becomes stronger the closer to exact the aspect between the two planets or planets to angular cusps. Progressions are experiences that are on a more internal level, but they can still activate energies during the lives of individuals on an external level. In my opinion, the Sun and Moon and angular points are very significant and can affect the individual on an energetic and event oriented manner. All of the major aspects hold relevance just as they do in the natal chart (Conjunction, Sextile, Square, Trine, Quincunx (although I personally use a smaller orb of influence with the Quincunx) and Opposition. The minor aspects are also important but again you must use a much smaller orb of influence that the orb used in a natal chart. You can have the inner progressed planets affecting the natal chart indicating activity or influence, as well as transits influencing the progressed chart. The progressed chart defines how the individual is developing in life through the movement of the planets forward. Progressions are a wonderful tool available to define how we are evolving in our personal life.
