Transiting Pluto was stationary direct at 18 degrees and 45 minutes from approximately September 29 to October 1, 2018. Yesterday Pluto went direct Pluto will remain direct until approximately mid-late April, 2019. When planets (with the exception of Saturn) are in direct (rather than retrograde), their energies are no longer subdued and are allowed full expression. Saturn is different from the other planets as its retrograde motion allows it to express its qualities in a more favorable manner. Pluto deals with endings and then afterward initiates new beginnings. It is the planet of transformation and regeneration. It has been known to break down old and outdated structures in our lives that no longer serve a viable purpose. Its energies then erect new energies that take the place of what once was. This can include relationships, occupation, internal realizations, finances, ways of communicating, home and family related subjects, love affairs, the working environment, joint finances and business enterprises, religious and spiritual overtones, friendships and mystical understanding, to name a few. Pluto will tear apart things that no longer add to our ongoing journey and things which stand in the way of our progress. Pluto will tear apart, disintegrate and dismantle in order to rebuild and transform what used to be into what now serves a purpose. Pluto can be subtle in its actions or it can be quite disruptive in its behaviour and little stands in the way of these changes that are needed. It is best not to fight what is inevitable. There can be ego disputes, organized or disorganized mayhem and what may, at first, appear to be setback while Pluto is in the process of rebuilding. Pluto’s actions are necessary but often may not be overly pleasant. Make no mistake, however, its energies are very powerful in their influence over the masses. As the author Helen J Adams states in her book Understanding Retrogrades, “Pluto direct is power while Pluto retrograde is dependency. Pluto direct is the leader of the masses, Pluto retrograde is the follower of the masses. Pluto direct creates great change, while Pluto retrograde refuses to change self, but does endeavor to change others. “ During Pluto’s transit, it has powerful ramifications on the areas of the chart it touches, whether this is the beginning of a house, planets or angles. Much depends on the aspects it is making during its travel around the Zodiac. Pluto in challenging aspect can be rather tedious and there is a tendency to destroy what needs to be dealt with and then rebuild with what is needed, but its actions are challenging to say the least. When Pluto is in a favorable aspect, its actions are still definite and unsettling but less dramatic or less inhibiting and the rebuilding of structures may move along more gently and create less strain. While Pluto is moving through your chart and affecting different placements within that framework, you can expect required changes and disruptions. Pluto’s actions are usually final. As the dust settles which may take as long as two years, you will come to understand that what took place was in your best interests. For those that are taking the journey of spirituality and psychic awareness, the path we walk cannot be tampered with or corrupted. There are truths and obligations to uphold. We will limit or expand our growth by our expectations and with the rules that we play by. We just as quickly stunt or stifle our growth by pretending to be something we are not. This transit between Pluto and Mars is potentially a very potent transit. Before we continue, is this transit in your chart? If it is be sure to check if Pluto and Mars are linked in your personal chart. Also check what, if any, other aspects are linked to Pluto and Mars in your natal chart. This will help determine the transiting effects on your life. Check to see which house transiting Pluto is currently located in as well as its natal position in your chart. You should also check which house natal Mars is located in to determine its contribution to the overall effects. As mentioned, this is a powerful aspect. If this aspect is affecting your chart, review your chart to see if there are other transits affecting Mars or planetary links that closely resemble this configuration such as Pluto and Saturn or Uranus links for this will help to define the intensity of the energies. There should always be a warning when the energies of Pluto and Mars come together particularly if you also have at least two other planetary links that also suggest the same types of energies. Under these energies, you will have to watch for acting in haste, especially when dealing with motorized vehicles and machinery. Potential dangers lie in these areas. This is a high energy transit that must be controlled or expressed in a vigorous although gentle manner. If you do not release these inherent energies, there is potential for becoming victim to aggressive behaviour. Do not place yourself in immediate danger and avoid arguments if at all possible. On the positive sign, if you are ready to move forward with your ambitions in life, this transit can provide you with the drive to accomplish, even in the face of adversity. On September 26, 2018, we started our review of how a transiting planet influences the natal chart. In that post we focused on the aspects to the planets. Today we will look at the effect on the angles in the natal chart (Asc or Ascendant, the MC or Medium Coeli, the DC or Descendant and the IC or Immum Coelia). Even more important than the natal planetary positions being transited as discussed on September 26, 2018, are the angles in the chart when they are being stimulated by transit. The Ascendant and Midheaven are particularly significant and will often bring activity into the equation. These are the most significant areas of a birth chart. They are also used in conjunction with solar arc and transits to determine the time of birth when a rectification process is required. A transit to the MC (Medium Coeli or more commonly referred to as the Midheaven) often brings with it changes within the occupation and in the life’s status. Goals can be reached or denied depending on the actions of the transiting planet in question by angle (conjunction, trine or square as a few examples). This is a primary activity area of the chart and in many cases we can depend of things shaping up and taking hold during an aspect to this degree. Favourable aspects to this degree can produce astounding results depending on the transiting aspect and planetary influence. Goals can be obtained and aspirations can be reached. Unfavorable aspects to this degree can bring about challenging situations within the occupation, life’s status or goals and objectives or may suggest hard work is required to move forward. A transit to the Ascendant (Rising Sign) can bring personal change into the equation and stimulate growth on a personal level. Changes can take place affecting important relationships, the personal appearance and life conditions. Personal changes either positive or challenging are in place and we will need to adjust to the climate of what is taking place under this aspect. To a lesser degree although still very relevant, transits to the DC (Descendant) and the IC (Immum Coelia) also indicate activity and changes taking hold. Changes in relationships or business relationships are often signified by a transit to the DC. Changes in the home front or with children are often indicated by transits to the IC. Once again much depends on the angles of the transits and the planetary energies involved. Outer planets always have a greater impact on any planet or angle in the chart due simply to the slow movement which in turn creates a long lasting impact on the areas of life involved in the transit. The orbs of influence are usually about 5 degrees approaching and about 2 degrees in separation, and the closer to exact, the stronger the influence. When a transiting planet goes into retrograde or stations on a planet or angle, intensity to that area of life determined by the house positon and energy related to the planets in question will be experienced. A planet in retrograde can pass over the same degree up to three times before finally going direct and moving beyond impact. The initial impact (first pass) is always the strongest, while the next pass acquaints us with the energies and the final pass often suggests an ending of the impact coming to fruition. As mentioned, when a planet is exactly on a degree in question, it has its most powerful influence. The only exception to this hard rule is Saturn as Saturn often delays its impact and is at its strongest influence at 2 degrees past the exact degree. If Saturn is transiting through a chart and the planet or point in question is 15 degrees, Saturn’s most powerful influence will be at 17 degrees. This is an overview of the way transits have an influence with our natal chart. The natal potential, however, always has to be determined before making any final conclusions. Look at the natal story of both the transiting planet and the natal planet in question. For example, transiting Saturn has an impact on natal Uranus. Transiting Saturn and Uranus are conjunct in the seventh house while the natal position of natal Saturn is in the fifth house. Taking all of this into consideration will help define the energies of influence and the areas of life involved. Giving in is not an option when the circumstances call for action. Acceptance of a circumstance is not giving in, however. We can accept something in life but move towards changing it. Giving up and letting go are not the same thing. Giving up is an act of throwing in the towel. It is a statement of “You win; I lose”. Giving up states “I am at your mercy”. When giving in, we feel as though we have no way out and nowhere to turn and are at the mercy of fate. We believe that there is no hope for change and that in some way life is swallowing us….whole. Letting go on the other hand suggests that, while you could be dealing with the same circumstances as someone who is giving up, you know deep within that you will make your way through the current circumstances knowing that you will come out on the other end of life’s lesson, stronger, wiser and more resilient. You know that there are always guiding forces ready and willing to guide and teach. You understand that difficulties are stepping stones to self-discovery. These challenges are what help you realize that there is always an answer. You put your faith in life and ask for guidance (spiritually, physically and/or emotionally) and if you are at wit’s end and have tried everything in your power to meet the challenge yet still feel you are falling short, you give it over to a greater source for assistance without the feeling of failure. We will all experience challenging conditions in our life. Some will experience these conditions and life situations to a greater degree than others. Some will deal with these difficulties from an emotional perspective; others will through a more mental perspective trying to rationalize conditions. It does not matter which way we choose. Do not allow yourself to feel that life has a strangle hold on you. Recognize your options and know that you are never alone even when it feels that way. Subtle energies are at work always and in some way, if you are open to the energies, you will be guided and prompted to find your way out. You are never at the mercy of life, but you are at the mercy of your beliefs and focus. You can always rely on the quiet voice within, the guiding prompts you receive. In the next couple of astrology posts, we are going to take a look at how a transiting planet influences the natal chart. Today we will focus on the aspects to the planets. In our next astrology post on September 28, 2018 we will look at the transit’s effect on the angles in the natal chart. A transiting planet (current location) that is moving over a natal (birth) position particularly by conjunction, square or opposition, will have a profound influence during its connection to the natal planet. The duration is determined by the transiting planets speed of movement (and possible retrograde motion) and the individual energies are determined by the planets involved. Conjunctions (0 degrees separating) to planets add an emphasis to the planetary energies dictated by the planet in question (both in the birth chart and by the planet in transit). It combines the energies and has a powerful effect stimulating the potential within the birth chart. It will also stimulate and energize any aspect to the natal planet within the chart by other natal positions as well as any effects by other transiting planets that are currently activating this degree. Oppositions (180 degrees apart) by transiting planets to natal positions often speak of an awareness of the conditions set in place by the energies and house positions involved and also frequently speak in terms of other people having an impacting part in the process. Once again we have to take into consideration the other aspects to the natal position within the natal chart that will also be activated by the transit in question. However, the main emphasis will be the natal planet receiving the opposition, its house position and the house position of the transiting planet. Transiting planets making a square (90 degrees apart) adds tension and often produces a push to move through or advance in some way to overcome the adversity. In some cases depending on the planets involved, a square can push us in our intended direction and force action. We may make the moves or in the case of outer transits, action may be forced upon us. Our attitude plays an important role in determining how we adjust to this action or how we move forward towards our objectives. Squares can be difficult but often produce the greatest results. Transiting planets making trines (120 degrees) and sextiles (60 degrees) to our natal positions produce opportunities and easy flow and often suggest that good fortune awaits or an opportunity for gain is possible. Sometimes we have to be the motivating force behind potential success and sometimes life just falls in our lap. It is suggested, however, that when we see the potential for gain that we always maneuver ourselves in the appropriate direction to reap the full benefits. Trines and sextiles are what we wait for in life. We always have to take into consideration what the aspects are in the natal chart towards these transiting trines and sextile and the houses involved. This will help define how to move ahead and whether or not it will be an easy transition or perhaps a more challenging one. Again, we will continue with transiting planets on September 28, 2018. Tonight, when you retire, will you take a moment to express your “thanks” in your own personal way for all that “was” today? Do you review your life through a focus of gratitude? Recall your life from the earliest days that you can. Reflect on the innocence and carefree attitude you had as a child, if you can find these memories. Each event experienced was meant to be and was a requirement in the developing story of you. Nothing was by chance, regardless of how traumatic or tranquil the experience. They had to take place. No mistakes. Nothing was to be left unsaid and if you look deep, you will come to terms with the “why” behind these experiences maybe not today but possibly tomorrow or the next day. They were all necessary to provide you with guidance and to accelerate your growth. Take a moment and reflect on who you have become. Be completely honest, as it is impossible to fool yourself. Recognize the individual. Accept who you have become. What are your attributes? Be honest and totally open. Do not let the ego colour these reflections, as it will try to influence these impressions. Now, look only at the positive characteristics and again reflect. Know that this is you. Do not just pass this part by. Recognize this individual. This is who you are. These qualities are the true essence of your personality and you deserve these virtues. You worked hard through your life to allow this beautiful you to exist. There are great benefits in viewing your character traits and your personality with this intent. You are meant to identify with this person. You are your best qualities, no matter how few you acknowledge, no matter how many you appreciate. If you are unimpressed with what you see, you are undoubted looking at what you are not. You should look deep within and acknowledge who you are. By reflecting on your true essence, you open the channel for continued growth in life, and you will uncover or allow more of who you are. There are hidden aspects of your true essence that are waiting to be released, but you have to be willing to open that door and to see and accept these. By recognizing your true essence, you are allowing your core personality to expand into your consciousness. This core essence is always awake and ready to reveal itself to you and to reawaken you to your full potential. You are all these pleasing qualities and more. Accept this. The true you is ever-present and continuously expanding. See you for who you are. You await your acceptance so that the true you can divulge more. This Aries Full Moon is a busy one. It makes a t-square as it is in opposition (as always with a Full Moon) to the Sun and both the Sun and the Moon are squaring Saturn. The Full Moon makes a sextile to Mars which is also in conjunction to the South Node. It also makes a trine to the North Node, which is always in direct opposition to the South Node. Finally it makes an opposition to Mercury. That is the technical part of the aspects. Now let’s explain what that means. As you can see, even if you do not have a full understanding of Astrology, this is a busy period. Most Astrologers agree that the Full Moon’s impact lasts for approximately one month. Some Astrologers believe that the seeds were planted for this Full Moon back when we experienced the New Moon in Aries, six months ago. Now is the time to harvest those seeds. As mentioned, the Full Moon is when the Moon and the Sun are in opposition, while a New Moon is when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction. New Moon’s energies initiate activity, while Full Moon’s energy brings fruition to our actions. The Full Moon’s harvest will focus particularly to what we have grown in the garden of life (our work on our goals). If we planted the right seeds during the New Moon’s influence, then the Full Moon’s harvest is prosperous. If we did not nurture the seeds that we planets and did not remove the weeds standing in the way of the growth, then we will not be able to harvest and we need to tend a little further to our garden of life. We will be experiencing a Cardinal T-Square which has similar qualities to that of the sign Taurus. Taurus is determined, understands the meaning of hard work and is willing to pursue their objectives while recognizing that this is what it takes to achieve whatever it is they have set out to do. This should be part of the process for those with a natal link to this Full Moons placement, although Aries does have challenges completing what it sets out to do at times. The Full Moon is at 2 degrees Aries so those with their Sun sign particularly in the sign of Aries or Libra within a three degree orb, as well as those with other planets tied into this placement will experience the strongest influence. Those with squares, trines, sextiles and other planetary placements within this degree will have a somewhat weaker influenced chart, although the square will usually produce activity and a strong push to rectify conditions or to move ahead with goals. The T-Square is considered a challenging aspect and the focal planet Saturn,(check to see which house transiting Saturn is in your birth chart), will exemplify the opposite house. There is a tendency to place all efforts into this area. The energies of Saturn needs to be directed towards the opposite house, so if Saturn is transiting through the third house, then its energies will have to be put into action in the area of life dictated by the ninth house. Things need balancing, and hard work with a diligent effort is suggested (much similar to what was suggested by the sign of Taurus). This Full Moon also makes a sextile to Mars which conjoins the South Node, possibly connected to opportunities of karmic rectification. Sometimes this deals with sexual overtones, but it always speaks of energy being directed into the area where transiting Mars is moving through in the natal chart. The Moon also makes a trine to the North Node suggesting that the ability of finding your right path is strong and influential people may have an impact at this time in your life. However hard work is implied and we should not miss any steps along the way or try to take short cuts when moving in the appropriate direction. Finally, we have an opposition between the Moon and Mercury. Oppositions often imply that other people are involved and sometimes add to the intensity of the situation. Sometimes other people offer advice that we may not be too willing to accept, although we probably should. Sometimes they become a big part of the process taking hold in our life and it feels as though they are hindering things. The Sun moves into the sign of Libra just before midnight on September 23, 2018, EDT. Those individuals with their Sun in the sign of Libra have a cordial and quite pleasant demeanor and often get along well with others. They enjoy intellectual conversation and social activities are right up their alley. Libra’s symbol is the scales. Some people think of these scales as the scales of justice and rightly so as Libra is very concerned with justice. However, the main theme of the scales is the act of balancing conditions. Libra is justice minded but they are always in search of balance in their lives and in the lives of others. This does not mean that they are always balanced however. Libra individuals love peace and harmony and will go to great lengths to create this in their lives. They may switch sides in a discussion just to keep the peace as they are comfortable in compromising situations and really dislike discord. In most cases these individuals are talkative, gentle and peace-loving. Relationships are extremely important to their well-being and they do not feel whole unless they are in a relationship of significance. Partnerships are important and although they dislike conflict, they are willing to speak freely to their personal partner. This would suggest those that have their Sun within orb of transiting Pluto will be going through a period of transformation. This transformation can present itself in personal terms. These specific individuals will experience period of self-reflection which could be focused on what they want to do with their lives moving forward and how they may want to change parts of (in their opinion) their “not so pleasant personality traits.” As the Sun often speaks of goals in life; those with this square in their chart may be experiencing changes to or conversions in their life’s objectives. These could include their occupation, their schooling and even reflect in their relationships of significance. This year in the northern hemisphere the Fall equinox “falls” at 9:54 p.m. on September 22. The fall equinox (equal division of day and night) is also called Mabon. It is a time to celebrate and reap the rewards of our hard labour of the season passed and gathering the harvest. The Fall equinox is a time of reflection on our achievements. It is often considered a time of change. It is linked to the sign Libra (the Sun enters Libra on September 22, 2018 at the same time) which above all else is a balancing sign. The balance we strive for is the knowledge of what to hold on to and what to let go of. We now reap the rewards of our labours and if we have not nurtured and tended the seeds that we have sown in the garden of life, we may have to sacrifice some goals because of this. Astrologically, the Fall equinox represents a balancing point between our self-image and any disapproval we may have with our view of self. This is a perfect time to reflect on our self as well as our goals. This review will assist us in recognizing our abilities and true self. The spring equinox is linked to the sign Aries and Aries begins things and initiates action. These two points (spring and fall equinox) are known as cardinal points. The cardinal points in the horoscope are known as action points. They are used as timing devices and lead to activity, drive, ambition, and involvement. During these two cycles, we should consider it a time of action -- either related to the start of something or the end or culmination point of whatever action we have already taken. These two equinoxes can be compared to the Full Moon and the New Moon and their symbolism of planting and harvesting. It is a time to actively pursue a course of action, to take control of our lives and push forward in the direction of our choice. Again, Cardinal signs are action oriented and strive for activity that is often personally initiated. This will be the time to make things happen. Do not wait for or rely on others to get the ball rolling. This is an annual reminder to push ahead or count our blessings and our losses. Use the energies of the equinox to push forward. Make the changes needed and address any situations that need addressing. This is not the time to play ostrich so to speak. The time has come to move beyond any stagnated stages of life that have held us back. Now is the time to reap the rewards after a busy season of planting the seeds and nurturing growth. There are two nodes in Astrology - the north node and the south node. The north node is tied to your life’s direction and the purpose behind this life, while the south node defines what comes easy to you and could well be something learned in a past life and what you need to steer clear of during this life. This does not suggesting that you cannot use the abilities suggested by the South Node’s in your life but it is suggesting that you have come into this life to work towards manifesting the North Node energies defined by its sign position and house placement along with aspects from other planets or angles to the North Node. The south node supplies you with valuable information that you have brought with you. Some suggest that this has been brought forward from a previous incarnation which you can utilize in this life. These are the things or information in life that just seems to come very natural to you. Falling back into the South Node’s energies indicated by its sign and house position may feel comfortable, but you have come to fulfill the purpose of the North Node position. Throughout your life you will find that events push you in the direction of your North Node energies. The planetary links to the North Node along with any angles that might be tied to the North Node are something that you need to utilize and develop in this life. The North Node is said to have similarities to the Sun and Jupiter while the South Node has connections to Saturn. The planets and the aspects that link up to these two nodes should be treated in the same manner as any other planets’ energies in the Astrology chart. The aspects are also treated as any other aspects in the chart. The planetary energies tie in with the Nodes and emphasize what these energies imply. For example, Mars tied to the South Node may indicate that in a previous life you were a fighter or someone with an aggressive temper or a leader who lead others through force, a dictator of sorts. The North Node tied to Mars may suggest that in this life you are to pursue your objectives with vigor and use your inherent strength to accomplish what you set out to do. Mars would give you the force to address what the sign and house position of the North Node is suggesting. When a transiting planet conjuncts the North Node (lets use Uranus for an example), this may be a time when you should follow the desire to break free from any type of restrictions that have held you back and have stopped you from achieving what the North Node is suggesting. This may happen on the spur of the moment and without warning because of Uranus’ energies. With a conjunct to Uranus, it may push you in a direction that requires immediate decision making and the desire for something new and enterprising especially if the North Node is in the sign of Aries for example. If Uranus were transiting your South Node, this would suggest that it is not the time to do these things and that you should weigh things out before making any commitment to change or follow a new life direction. It warns of sudden decisions that might hamper you later in life. Rash decision making would not be recommended. You should take time to ponder your actions before making any moves regardless of the desire to move ahead in a new direction under this Uranus influence. You should check the house that your North Node or South Node are in to give you further information about what areas of life are involved. You could also check which house your natal Uranus is in (with this example) to add to the underlying information being provided to you through the chart. In most cases with our Uranus example, if you take the time suggested with the South Node (and remember the South Node has similarities to Saturn’s actions) you can make informed decisions rather than jumping, which jumping is what Uranus would want from you. The North Node and Uranus however, would suggest that you take that giant step and move in that intended direction in your life, as the North Node is similar in its action to Jupiter and usually provides good fortune and positive outcomes. You always need to look at the overall picture of what is happening in your chart before making any life changing decisions no matter what one single part of your chart is suggesting.
