We will be experiencing our first Full Moon Lunar Eclipse of 2020 on January 10 at 2:23 p.m. EST. This Full Moon will be in the sign of Cancer which means it is comfortable as it is in the Moon’s natural rulership and is said to be quite powerful. The house that this eclipse falls in within your personal chart will be the area of life that is affected. Since this eclipse is in Cancer, and at 20 degree, any planet at or near the same degree especially by conjunction, opposition or square will be affected by this eclipse. Lunar eclipses last in duration of month’s equivalent to the time when we are experiencing the phenomena in hours. Some Astrologers insist that it lasts about 6 months and perhaps lingering effects can make it so. Eclipses often speak of turning points in our lives where we need to take quick action often of something that we have been fighting or contemplating for some time. The Full Moon is known for a culmination of events and the harvest of the fruits of our labour. It is usually not the time for starting things but the time when we reap what we have sowed. When we find ourselves in a troubling situation or experiencing a challenging state of mind, we have the ability to rise above these events or feelings. It does not matter what we are faced with, we can overcome anything. We have the ability to change any circumstances mentally. When we recognize the inner strength that we have, we can use these strengths to our advantage. If you were born between approximately mid-1957 to mid-1972, you are the Pluto in Virgo generation, give or take a few months either side of these dates, as Pluto went retrograde during this period (appearing to move backwards in the heavens). Check an ephemeris to see if you are part of this generational positioning. This generation may be somewhat obsessive about their health and cleanliness. They are intensely interested in keeping their body in top shape if they are able, through rigorous exercise routines and proper diet. This may vary, however, depending on what house Pluto is in within their natal chart and the aspects applied to Pluto. Pluto does, however, require work on your part and if we stand by and expect life to do this for us, we would be sadly mistaken at least in many cases. Mars has about a two year cycle for its return position. It goes retrograde and this cycle lasts from anywhere between 56 to 82 days. As it approaches its retrograde motion and as it is leaving retrograde cycle, it can remain in a stationary position for approximately 5 to 6 days. The next Mars retrograde cycle is September, 2020. Some say that while Mars is in its retrograde cycle it has similarities to the energy of Venus, but what this is referring to is that its energies are harnessed to a great degree and may be released in a more gentle manner. When Mars is in its direct motion, its tendency is to have aggressive action and it will not hold itself back or fear making mistakes and starting over again. Mars is a forceful energy when in direct motion and its energies is often what propels us ahead in life. Mars direct truly wants to fulfil its requirements whatever that may be, which is often determined by its placement in the chart. When Mars is in its retrograde cycle, as mentioned, its energies are harnessed and there is often the element of fear. This is in part why we feel the urge to sit back and review what we are striving for. There is a feeling that we should at least wait until things are beginning to settle down and become more reliable. Anger and violence have often been attributed to the energies of Mars while in direct motion and this will be curtailed somewhat when it is retrograde motion. Whatever area of life that is involved at the time when Mars is in retrograde motion(determined by the house position), there is a distinct feeling that we need more time to reflect on the situation and this can lead to feelings of frustration. There may be issues about speaking our full truth. It is not that we would lie, but we would be more passive in expression than when Mars is direct. Sometimes there is a fear of making mistakes and this is why we hold back. And what if we do take a stand and move ahead? What if we have to back our initiative up with action? What if this does not meet our expectations? This is how the fear might play out. Mars has also been strongly linked to our sexual expression and much will depend on the sign and aspects to Mars in the birth chart to define how its sexual energies will be released. When Mars is in retrograde motion there is often a feeling of frustration and in some way life seems to be standing in the way of progress. Once it turns direct again, we may find that these energies slowly settle down and things go back to normal. For those with Mars retrograde in the birth chart, which by the way can turn direct due to progression, people often find that life seems somehow predetermined and life events seem to dictate at times. For those that are somewhat inhibited in their expression, Mars retrograde in the birth chart has been put in place to push us to exert our self even when we don’t want to, especially due to a fear of failure or not meeting expectations. We will eventually push our self and promote our self, one way or another. It is likely, however, that we will do so only under the right circumstances and when it feels safe. Yet another year has comes to a close. We can reflect on the many lessons that 2019 has taught us and then close the chapter. The events of 2019 are now behind us and there is no need to bring forward into 2020 anything but the knowledge from the lessons learned. Close the chapter and turn to the blank pages of 2020. As you can imagine there would be a great difference between the Sun conjunct Jupiter and the Sun conjunct Saturn. Jupiter will be having its own effects for those with their Sun in the early to mid-degrees of Capricorn, (from 0 to about 17-18 degrees Capricorn). This conjunct will begin in early December and last until mid-February of 2020. Of course, you will have to look to see if there are other modifying transiting planetary influences in the chart to get a full picture of what this conjunction of Jupiter and the Sun would mean in your particular case. Jupiter would tend to bring forth opportunities and growth particularly in areas related to goals in life. This could include occupation, structural ideologies and plans set forth that would generate development over the long haul. Capricorn knows that it takes time and energy to achieve objectives if you want something feasible and structurally sound. Jupiter has a tendency for exaggeration and is often associated with “the big plan” and sometimes we overestimate what is potentially available to us. However the higher we aim in many cases the higher we attain, so sometimes it is okay to have lofty ideas in place when Jupiter is part of the process. Some individuals will seek out new adventures through travel, although in many cases a place that has familiarity to it might be more pleasing than somewhere completely foreign to us, (for those with their Sun in Capricorn). When Jupiter meets up with Saturn, (we should also mention its connection with Pluto for those with their Sun in Capricorn in these degrees), the story changes direction. Along with the desire to expand on plans and objectives, these Capricorn individuals may now encounter some restriction and potential worries about possible outcomes. They may experience transformations to their plans and setbacks or time restrictions due to these other energies entering into the picture. Their focus will almost certainly be too lofty while at the same time too restrictive. Finding a happy medium is what will be required. Saturn and Pluto together pack a mighty punch and this combination will be intensified in January and February of 2020. Jupiter sits on the edge of influence of both these giants in our solar system in early March and then weans off from the influence of Saturn but stays strong with Pluto from March to November/December of 2020. The influence of Pluto will be one of transformation to goals and aspirations and potentially their path in life. At the same time, this will be influencing Capricorn individuals’ inner self and the changes they will want to address as time goes by. This is a powerful energy and will have profound influences well into the 2020 year ahead. This Solar Eclipse begins on December 25 at 9:29 p.m EST or Dec 26 at 02:29 a.m. UCT and is finished at 3: 05 a.m. EST or 08:05 a.m. UCT on December 26. According to TimeAndDate.com “The annular phase of this solar eclipse is visible from Saudi Arabia, Oman, southern India, and parts of Indonesia, weather permitting. In most of Asia, parts of North/East Africa, and North/West Australia, people can see a partial eclipse.” We in Ontario will not be able to see this eclipse. The new Moon is on December 26, 2019 at 12:15 a.m. EST. The New Moon/Solar Eclipse is at 4 degrees in the sign of Capricorn. It is well aspected by Jupiter which is conjunct this degree and Uranus which is trine this degree. As a result, this sounds quite favourable. This is a cardinal position and those with their Sun in Capricorn in the early degrees as well as those with their Sun in Cancer in the early degrees will have this placement in conjunction and in opposition respectively in their charts. Those with their Sun in the early degrees of Aries and Libra will have this position square to the eclipse degree. We could go deeper and discuss each sign but for this post we will focus on the Cardinal degrees. The energies of a New Moons and Solar Eclipses offer up opportunities to make changes in your life. You can rid yourself of anything that no longer suits your path and formulate a new focus, if so desired, to advance your cause or goals. Some will experience turmoil and harder lessons at this time which over time have the potential to foster growth and expansion. Although havoc is often accompanied with the energies of a Solar Eclipse, they do create positive change. Those individuals with their Sun square to this position, although somewhat challenging, you will want to push your way through the adversity and use this as an opportunity to apply useful and practical solutions to any problems that may need dealing with. It might be time for a fresh start. Although these energies might be a little challenging especially if you also have a hard aspect with the upcoming Saturn/Pluto conjunction taking hold in January/February, 2020, you can use these energies to go after what is important to you. On December 21 2019, the Sun moves into the sign of Capricorn. Those with this placement of their Sun will experience a lot of conjunctions depending on the degree of their Sun sign for parts of this upcoming year. Mercury moves into Capricorn on December 30, 2019 through until January 16, 2020. Mars goes into Capricorn on February 17, 2020. Jupiter went into Capricorn on December 3, 2019 and will remain there until December, 2020 and as a result will touch all Sun in Capricorn individuals at some point over the next 12 months. Saturn remains in Capricorn until March, 2020 and Pluto will also remain in Capricorn for several years to come. As you can see those with their Sun in Capricorn will have many planets making conjunctions to their Sun over the next year. The house where the Sun is located natally in a Capricornian’s chart will be the area of life which will have the most direct influence. Houses are areas of life and the Sun has to do with our goals and life’s path as well as our inner self. You will also need to have a look at how the Sun is aspected in your natal chart, as the aspects it receives from other planets in the natal chart will also be factored into the equation when deciphering the meanings of these current day (transiting) conjunctions. Those with their Sun in Capricorn have an inner need to advance and are usually willing to go to great lengths to see their goals through to fruition. Look around you. What do you see? What you see and what you experience are reflections of your attitude and focus in life. On some level you created the energies (your response) to this life. Our reality is based on our attitude, perception and belief structure towards each experience. Don’t be mistaken, there are and will be events that take place that are completely out of our control and we will experience life to its full intensity and be subject to all ramifications outside of our selves. Our reaction however is what makes our life smooth, rough or indifferent. What we see in our world is somehow a reflection of what lives within us. (What we concentrate on in our mind and focus is what will jump out at us in our life). When the world around us is in need of adjustment, it is a good indication that our own personal journey needs adjustment too. Often this adjustment can be simply a change in our focus but sometimes we need to make actual changes to the way we are living our lives. Some changes at first glance appear challenging. These changes can sometimes be quite apparent and at other times they are quite subtle in their expression. We often get hints along the way, however. We can make decisions that will facilitate the required changes and the transition can be quite smooth. Other times, we don’t make the necessary changes and the change comes any way. Forced change can be much more disruptive than it has to be. Our physical bodies can even react to these needed changes particularly if we are fighting the process. Energy when release, after being harnessed for too long, can have severe effects on us emotionally, physically, spiritually. Some of us coast through life not really participating and not truly recognizing our input. Some of us are far too caught up in life’s circumstance and the “what ifs” and “could haves” when we should be focused on the moment. We can get lost in love; we can get lost in anger; we can get lost in envy; we can get lost in worry; we can get lost in fear; we can get lost in sadness. Anything to an extreme will render us lost. This time of year in many ways is quite busy and filled with wonderful energies. We will experience the Sun entering into the sign of Capricorn on December 21. We will celebrate Winter Solstice (Hibernal Solstice) on December 21 at 11:19 p.m. EST and we will enjoy the energies of the New Moon in Capricorn 4 degrees on December 26. As nature sleeps and the light is low, however, we can take advantage of this time to reflect on our wonderful earthly journey. This is the perfect time to look within. What have we achieved over the past year? Where has our growth been plentiful and where might we be able to focus a little more, if we choose? This is the perfect time to plan our intentions and set our goals for when the energy and the light increase. Mother nature always knows best. Life is easier when we follow her example. When the creatures of our locality rest, so should we. Take this quiet time to nurture our inner self so that when the light and warmth returns, we are ready for the return of mental and physical energies. Hopefully our spiritual energies are always high. Our current lesson is patience which is always a difficult one to learn. Utilize the wait to look deep into the shadows of self. We can bring light into our darkest corners and fill each corner with love and allow spirit to grow. Is it coincidence that during Yule season (the rebirth of light), many celebrate the birth of Christ (the symbol of rebirth of salvation)? This IS a time of celebration for many, whether it is Yule, Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, etc. We have so much to celebrate. We have heard from people that they feel lost with no clear direction. They feel as though they have nothing to strive for. Are you waiting for something or someone else to point you in the right direction? Our journey can be challenging at times to say the least, and some individuals may feel as though they may have lost their way. These times that some terms as stagnant are the perfect times to contemplate and get into the habit of quieting the mind and allowing. Seize these opportunities to practice mindfulness, to quiet the mind and just be. It is imperative to just settle into our current life’s conditions and want nothing more (......just for this moment). When we look up from our quiet time, we may find that a light has appeared in the distance. There will be just enough light to light up the shadows in the dark corners of our life and we once again will feel comfortable and guided to continue on our journey. We can never hurry the process but we can utilize the time wisely in silence (yes “wisely” sit quietly) using this period prudently. If we have chosen to get caught up in the fear of nothingness, we must “defocus”. It is just that simple. By shifting the mind’s focus to quiet, we can appreciate and prepare for the next leg of our journey........that WILL come. It is inevitable. Life can be SO busy and so much can happen that we lose gift of silence which is the best guide and teacher. We shoot the rapids and spend little to no time adjusting and adapting to the subtle lessons that we learn. These times that so many term as “stagnant” are not wasted time. Quite the contrary. It is during these times of quiet that we are given so many invaluable tools. Observe and examine and then sit in silence. Accept and appreciate this treasures we have been provided with. Do not be misled by reactive thoughts. Quiet the mind regularly so that we are ready to continue our journey. Where our path leads us tomorrow is not important today but we can rest assured that it leads to where we need to be. Enjoy each moment and utilize what may feel like stagnate times to reflect, review and rest. This silent time is not stagnating; quite the contrary. It is essential to calm the rapids on our river of life. Mercury is the planet of the mind and of communication. There are times when it indicates travel although there would have to be other aspects that point to travel in the chart for this to happen. It also deals with everyday life and our mental reaction to these events and people. As mentioned, Mercury is about communication and this could go as far as telephone conversations and communication through electronic devices such as computers especially when linked to Uranus, as Uranus is often connected to electronics and modern technology. Mercury on its own does very little and unless it is in aspect with others planets, it is considered neutral. Mercury takes on the energies of any planet it aspects or is aspected by. When it is aspected by Uranus, communication and mental processing becomes unique, different and far-sighted. Uranus is very impulsive in its action and when joined with Mercury, this could result in intellectual conversation and actions that would be decided on in the moment. You could say that Uranus and Mercury could be considered impulsive in their actions and with their thinking energies. Uranus is all about pushing us out of passive thinking and activities. Its energies assist us in seeking freedom on some level. When these planets are linked by aspect, thinking is stimulated and erratic ideas may flood the mind. Ideas that you have never entertained before suddenly seem quite appropriate and you are likely to act on them too. Communication has more depth and meaning. New insights will be entertained and you would probably share these ideas with others. Many individuals would consider these ideas erratic and unconventional but certainly engaging and thought provoking to say the least. You may find that the occult (supernatural, mystical, psychic) may interest you, particularly Astrology because Uranus rules Astrology. Anything scientific also carries more weight than normal especially if you are already inclined to think in these terms. Abstract thinking and the study of subjects that are linked to occult teachings would not only interest you but you would be advised to undertake their study. You may find them mentally stimulating and they may awaken latent abilities linked to the supernatural that lie dormant. Taking advantage of anything new is highly suggested but you should also understand that this whole process may be short lived. Sometimes the energies of Uranus bring things into our lives that are very stimulating and exciting but they can also vanish just as quickly as they came. Try to keep your mind as focused as possible as Uranus will tend to scatter your thoughts. Watch also for making impulsive decisions. Always think things through before jumping in with both feet. As mentioned earlier, Mercury sometimes indicates travel and with the influence of Uranus there is the small potential for accidents or mishaps along the way due to being impulsive. You can anticipate the unexpected when you are making plans for excursions and new adventures, as quite often things do not turn out as you first expect. Whatever takes place, it will be an enlightening experience. You will complete this experience wiser than you were prior to this transit. Expect the unexpected and move forward as you will only live fully by doing.
