It can bring moments of joy to reminisce and recall significant periods in our lives. We recall important moments that we hold dear, while others are best left behind. As we age we have more experiences to recall and many seniors spend much time reflecting on past events. The past is behind us and we have no control on what has transpired. What happened in the past has little if any significance on our lives now, even though we may think it does. In some ways, many individual can get caught up on what took place and because of their “holding on”, these events are affecting their lives in the present. They may have been hurt by someone, or someone important to them may have passed away. Because of this, they change the way they are living today. Other alter their current life styles because they feel, after the events of the past, they cannot live the way they used to. Others hold on to the past so strongly that they do not want anything in life to change in fear of loosed those and that that once were. Grief is an experience that few, if any, can avoid. Grief is a normal experience; allow it to be. It is when emotions such as grief become long lasting and all consuming that we are allowing the past to steal the present. It is important to go through the process and deal with our emotions. It is a personal choice on how we will react to what has now become our new path in life but many people do not understand or realize this choice. Change is guaranteed and we have to be flexible to live in the moment. When we hold on to the past, we can feel as though we are lacking or life has somehow turned against us. Some individual can become angry or overcome by sadness and despair. How we look at any given situation is a choice. Do we celebrate what once was and appreciate the experience or do we begrudge the change and allow anger to flood our moments? Depending on our attitude towards any event, we can be a prisoner of our past or we can celebrate the moments and appreciate the path we have journeyed. Many of us choose to reflect and realize the gifts we have received. We acknowledge, we thank and we move one. Trauma is difficult and we need time to process our emotions. If are having difficulty doing this, we need to reach out to those that can lend an ear, a shoulder, a hand or some guidance. The hard lessons often hold the most valuable gifts. It can be hard to realize at the time however. Process and step forward. It can be frightening but it is essential. We cannot take the hand of this moment without letting go of the hand of yesterday. Recognize the beauty in each moment. Live life to its fullest. Do not waste what you have today because you are tethered to your memories of yesterday. We continue our post from September 14, 2018 covering the influence of Solar and Lunar Eclipses when triggered in the natal chart. Please read the previous post to get a full understanding of where we are continuing from. The transiting Sun will stimulate the eclipse energies and can provide activity in the form of a specific matter being brought into focus. The Sun will activate the eclipse each year when it arrives at the original position of the eclipse and again when it is in opposition of the eclipse degree. Transiting Mercury and transiting Venus tend to have only minor effects on the energies as they transit the eclipse degree, often not noticeable unless they happen to correlate with other transits at the same time. Mars is understood to be quite action oriented and will often jumpstart events of significance when it forms a conjunction or opposition to the eclipse. Sometimes its energies can create conflict and struggle and is often prominent when assistance is required in the interest of anothers. Transiting Jupiter brings expansion and often gain of some sort into the equation, but can also build on things when they are in fact not overly pleasing (exaggerates the energies). Generally, however, Jupiter promotes opportunities and growth and often brings good luck when moving forward. Transiting Saturn often marks the end of conditions or a closure to the energies of the eclipse. It is also associated with Karmic debt and if you have worked diligently towards a favorable conclusion, it can also mark Karmic rewards, but hard work is always a by-product of Saturn’s energies in order for something positive to transform out of what the energies are suggesting. In general, the outer planets move quite slowly through the zodiac and rarely reach the degree through conjunction or opposition of the Eclipse degree. When they do, they are often representative of challenging situations. While Saturn’s action is often delayed in response and is generally a testing period, Uranus is often linked to the unexpected, quick and rapid changes. Uranus’ action is often quite unpredictable and erratic and hard to define. Transiting Neptune is often linked to cloudiness and uncertainty and in many cases we have a hard time recognizing fact from fiction. It can, therefore, be quite vague or hazy in its expression. However Neptune is also linked to the mystical side of life and can be descriptive of spiritual and psychic revelations when highlighted through transit. Transiting Pluto operates in a much more dynamic manner than any of the outer planets and it seeks to tear down structures that need to be re-evaluated and in some cases discarded or at the very least torn down to their bare essentials. Transformations are at hand and they can be subtle but rarely insignificant. Things can change on a permanent basis under Pluto’s energies. Pluto is dynamic in its action and has a similar effect to transiting Mars in its potentially destructive nature. We have touched on eclipses many times (and no we are not experiencing a Solar or Lunar Eclipse when this article is being posted) but we thought we should go a little deeper on how to decipher the meaning and strength of an eclipse. We talked about the correlation of the duration of eclipses and the effects of its energies as related to the timing. We have suggested in the past that if an Lunar eclipse lasted for 3 ½ hours, its energies would remain relevant for up to 3 ½ months. After more study, some Astrologers are now suggesting that this influence is over a much longer period. If for example a lunar eclipse were to last 3 ½ hours, they are suggesting that the effects will be felt for 3 ½ years. Further study is certainly warranted. The solar eclipse's effects last for years equivalent to the hours of duration. It is understood that an eclipse (regardless of whether it be Solar or Lunar) will have an impact in the charts of those individuals that have a natal planet that is in proximity to the positioning of the eclipse. A three degree orb is suggested and in particular when the natal planet or angle is in conjunction, square and opposition to the eclipse position. Trines and sextiles will also apply, but it has been noted that the conjunction in particular is the most influential of the aspects. For example, if an Eclipse is at 18 degrees of Leo conjuncting a natal Sun at 15 to 21degrees in Leo (within three degrees) this would be an applicable conjunction. A transiting planet in aspect (conjunction or opposition) during the duration in years of the date of the eclipse will once again activate the initial degree of the eclipse as it makes a conjunction or opposition to the eclipse degree. As always with any aspect, the house position and sign position will determine the area of life and type of energy that may manifest because of the eclipse. If the eclipse is at 18 degrees Leo then the transiting planets when reaching 18 degrees Leo or 18 degrees Aquarius will provide the trigger for activity. The faster moving planets, Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars can reach this point several times over the duration of the Eclipse’s influence. Jupiter does a total orbit around the Sun every twelve years so it MAY reach the eclipse only once, if at all. While Saturn which goes through a sign of the zodiac in 2 ½ years may only reach this position once, if at all. The energies of a planets in retrograde in an Astrology chart tend to make us look inward. Those individuals with several retrograde planets in their chart (and the magic number seems to be 5 to be termed “several”) tend to be introverted, even subdued and keep much to themselves. The energies have difficulties working their way to the surface and are stifled. It takes great effort to bring the energies to the surface and to make the necessary adjustments to challenge these deficiencies. Personally, this Astrologer does not believe in deficiencies. I tend to look at it as harnessed energy waiting for the opportune moment to be released. Those people without retrograde planets in their birth charts are certainly in the minority. It is said that roughly seven percent of people have this phenomena. It is believed that the energies of all the planets are released, are given free reign and are allowed to flow freely. This in turn can create an individual who may lack patience and they often do not use a cautious approach. The waiting game is not part of their nature, and they much prefer to move things along. There is usually great energy behind these individuals who do not have retrograde planets in their charts. They work tirelessly towards achieving their objectives in life. They have strong willpower and are persistent in their efforts to succeed. They move forward similar to Aries often advancing with little forethought, if any, and they rarely lack belief in their own abilities. As a result, they are normally quite successful. Some individuals without retrograde planets in their chart do fall from time to time; however, this will not stop them from getting right back up and moving ahead again. Their determination is steadfast and they rely on no one for approval or even assistance. They believe in their own abilities and also stand behind their failures for they are valuable lessons. These lessons would not be cause for alarm. “Let’s just start again and see what happens” could be their motto. “If it does not work this time, perhaps it will the next time”, or “I will just need to make some minor adjustments” would be natural statements made by these individuals. No retrograde planets produce individuals that are self-reliant and self-determined. These traits can make them great entrepreneurs. They are willing to take the plunge and often without much reserve. Most of these individuals would prefer to work alone. This, however, can make them somewhat aloof and even distant as they unconsciously withdraw into themselves. They may even feel misunderstood and judged wrongly by others, because of this loner type mentality. This is only in extreme cases, however. It is always important to consider the whole chart before drawing any conclusions on one specific factor in a chart . There are many things in the chart that can offset some of these characteristics, but moving forward and going it alone is quite common for someone without retrograde planets in their chart. The angles in an Astrology chart • Ascendant {AC} • Midheaven {Medium Coeli -MC) • Imum Coeli {IC} and • Descendant {DC}) are highly sensitive areas when touched by transiting (current placement) planets. The planets are also important in event forecasting, especially the outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) due to their slow rate of travel through the zodiac. Due to the slow speed of their movement, the energies have a longer effect and can affect an area of your chart for several years. Although you will be affected during the whole period of the aspect, the closer the aspect is to being direct, the stronger the energy. It is important to look at the planet that is being transited and the natal aspects (aspects in your birth chart) to this planet along with any other transits or progressions that are influencing the degree in question. If a natal planet has any other planets or key point in the birth chart affecting it by natal aspect, these additional planets or key points will also be affected by the transit in question. The more aspects a natal planet receives from other natal planets and key points, the stronger the influence will be. The energy of the planets involved and the house placements will help define how the energies might be released. The overall picture, which includes the transiting planet, its house position and its natal position must be taken into consideration when unlocking the potential of a transit when it occurs. When a transiting outer planet is within one degree of being direct to a natal planet by aspect, you should look at the transits of Uranus, Mars, the Sun as well as the progressed Moon. When any of these planets activate the natal planet being affected, the energies will be released. For example, let’s say that transiting Pluto is squaring your natal Sun. This aspect indicates that changes on a personal level are taking place. This could also have a professional effect, but much will be determined by the house placement of the Sun and also Pluto. The closer the degree is to being direct, the stronger the aspect. With our example of the square, we would suggest that the planets are 0 degrees and 20 minutes apart, so the energies are strong as they are only out by half a degree). It is also necessary to check to see if one of the planets that trigger an event is in the same degree particularly by conjunction, as this will undoubtedly activate an event and stimulate activity to take place. Uranus can usually be used on its own to the exact degree to the minute defining activity in the area of life depicted by house positions. Mars and the Sun will also activate what is potentially promised, but Uranus can often be counted on to release the energies often exact within a couple of days. If transiting Uranus is making the aspect in the natal chart, this might be enough to determine when things will happen, but Uranus is very unpredictable and what to expect might be very difficult to pinpoint as with Uranus you have to expect the unexpected. These timing factors can often help determine the potential timeline within a one month. These timing planets can help define when things will happen. The transit itself when separating (exact separation) from the natal point in question will also define how long the energies are active. The energies will begin to subside after the exact aspect (with a square for example exactly 90 degrees) begins to separate. With the proper delineation of a chart, Astrology can definitely point the way, although we as individuals still make the final decisions and our attitude towards any event will defines how the energies of that event will affect us. The New Moon on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 2:02 p.m. EDT will be positioned at 17degrees Virgo. A New Moon set the stage for new ideas and the ability to move towards new directions. It is the time to plant seeds in the garden of life. Virgo’s energies prefer to have everything in perfect order to put these plans in motion. Virgo wants organization and if at all possible, perfection before it wants to move ahead. If you have any planets in your natal chart close to 17 degrees, particularly by conjunction (0 degrees)(17 degrees Virgo), this New Moon might be a key to planting the seeds. Take a look at which house this New Moon is in, in your chart. The house location will provide you with information about the area of life involved. If you have a lot of planets near this degree although in different signs, this could be a busy time. If you are attempting to start something relevant, this may well be the time to decide to take the appropriate action. Transiting Jupiter is making a sextile to this New Moon’s positioning. Transiting Pluto is making a trine to the New Moon’s position. Both transiting Jupiter and transiting Pluto will be at 18 degrees. Trines and sextile speak of easy flow and opportunities and if the rest of your chart points in a similar direction (we always have to look at the full chart to get the full story), the energies are in place to make a move if you decide. Jupiter promotes growth and expansion and often brings good luck into the equation. Pluto speaks in terms of deep reflection and the uncovering of the truth. Pluto might help with the transformation of what it is you are trying to move on. Much, of course, will depend on how the rest of the chart is aspected at this time, but pushing ahead with a plan might not be a bad idea. Make sure you have done your due diligence. Pluto will certainly provide the push forward and its energies may work towards building something worthwhile down the road. If the Midheaven (MC) or the ASC (Rising Sign or Ascendant) is tied in somehow to this New Moon, this could speak of a time of personal change and/or moving ahead with occupational aspirations. If the Sun is involved, this might suggest opportunities to move ahead with plans that can take you towards the goals you have in place. Do not let negativity, worry or a feeling of failure stop you from moving ahead if your chart is suggesting a “Go-For-It” energy. Move ahead and understand that nothing will ever be in a state of perfection particularly if you are looking for flaws. You will, undoubtedly with the influence of Virgo, notice all the little flaws in your proposed project. Do not be too hard on yourself. Mars is a quick moving planet and its effects are usually short lived; however, they can be intense. If transiting Mars moves into retrograde during its connection to a natal planet or natal angle, it may pass over the same position up to three times. Usually the first pass of a planet will be the most influential of the three hits that the planet or angle will take. The energies of Mars may last as long as five days over each pass although the strongest impact will be when it is directly on the planet or angle lasting about one day. Mars is known as a malefic planet although it can also motivate us forward providing the necessary push to help us achieve. Since others are always part of the process when we are speaking about an opposition, we may pursue our objectives aggressively, but it is likely we will have disputes or opposition with others in the process. Plans may not run smoothly and others may object to our aggressive pursuit. The outcome will depend much on the planet involved which in this case we are focusing on Pluto which is often indicative of power struggles. These power struggles can be relentless and may come directly at us with little if any regard for our feelings. It might be helpful to have some assistance during these attempts and in most cases, going it alone is not the best choice. Perfection is in the mind of the beholder. Just as we can see perfection, we can also find flaws in life. Why then would we not give up on our relentlessly focus on flaws? Have you done your best, or is there something more you can add to whatever it is you are trying to accomplish? If your focus still feels incomplete, then there might be more steps to take. If you have done all that you can and there is nothing more possible to do to make something better perhaps you are not being realistic. Perhaps perfection in this case cannot be obtained. Sometimes you have to release what you hope is possible so that you can enjoy what actually is possible. Perfection is a state of mind, and in some cases when we can release our expectations, we find contentment where previously there was none. Your obligation to yourself is to always do your best regardless of outcome. Many of us are very hard on ourselves and we can make life much easier if we can avoid being overly judgemental particularly with ourselves and our achievements. In many cases in life, perfection just cannot be found. You can be content with your accomplishments and recognize the beauty in everything, flawed or not. There is no such thing as failure, only lessons. If we have to let go and allow, there is a lesson to be learned in that. No matter how things appear, they are truly perfect for the moment.
