Each Astrological sign can be divided into three sections. These sections are known as decanates or decans . Each decan consists of ten degrees--the first decan would be from 0 to 9 degrees 59 minutes, the second would be from 10 degrees to 19 degrees 59 minutes, and the third would be from 20 degrees to 29 degree 59minutes. They are always within the same “element” (water, air, fire or earth) that the Sun sign is in. For example, 23 degrees Scorpio would be in the third decan and would therefore align with Pisces. The first decan is always the same as the Sun sign which in this case would be Scorpio, the second would be Cancer and the final one would be Pisces. We also have to look at the ruling planet of each decan. Again using the same Sun sign, the first decan would be Pluto, the second would be the Moon and the third would be Neptune. If you are born within the first ten degrees of Scorpio, you are a double Scorpio ruled by Pluto. If you are born with the second ten degrees of Scorpio, you would be a Scorpio with Cancer tendencies and are ruled by Pluto and the Moon. If you are born with the third ten degrees of Scorpio, you would be Scorpio along with Pisces tendencies and are ruled by Pluto and Neptune. If you are born in the first decant of Scorpio, you would have a great deal of intensity and depth to your character. You would be an investigative individual who is interested in uncovering the mysteries of life and life’s experience. You would have a powerful demeanour, especially on the inside, as the Sun sign speaks of our inner qualities, although these qualities can also be expressed outwardly as well. You enjoy having power over life’s situations and want a certain amount of control. Your emotions run deep and you are mostly able to keep them inside although much depends on your Moon Sign and its placement in your birth chart. You will undergo many transformations in life and will regenerate yourself, primarily learned through life’s experience. The tendency to gather information about yourself and self study runs very deep. Transformations are a part of life and once you reconcile with yourself and explore your inner nature, you will make adjustments to your character. You are always in search of truth, so this will be what instigates change. If you were born in the second decanate of Scorpio, you would still encompass all the details previously discussed, but would also incorporate some character traits related to the sign of Cancer and the Moon. This would make you sensitive to emotional interaction in your life and emotionally susceptible to your immediate surroundings. Family and nurturing are important factors in your life and not only will you go to great lengths to insure that those close to you are cared for but you also need this yourself. You are extremely protective of those you love and will face adversity head on if you feel that they are being challenged. In general, you try to keep your emotions inside although it can be difficult at times, especially when emotionally attacked. You will seek shelter and place a hard shell over your emotional sensitivities, but in general you tend to keep the emotions at bay, revealing little. You are loving, caring, sensitive and soft as well as having the inner strengths embraced by the strong Scorpio tendencies. If you were born during the third decanate of Scorpio, you would still carry forward the Scorpio traits, as discussed with the first decant, but you would also have Pisces tendencies, and Neptune along with Pluto would be your ruling Planets. Pisces is much more sensitive that either of the other two decants and has a difficult time holding emotion within. Just as Cancer, those within the third decant are sensitive to your environment but this can be to an extreme. You need peace and tranquility in your immediate surroundings and seek gentleness along with compassion. You seek this for yourself but especially for those that are less fortunate. You are a kind and caring individual who is here to help. We all go through periods when we seem to be challenged and fighting the process as it unfolds seems futile. We sometimes feel pushed to the edge and we can only deal with things the best way we can. The battles we wage sometimes create exaggerated issues and we would truly be much further ahead to roll with the punches. There really is no way to avoid the lessons we have to learn in life, and at times, we just have to accept what stands before us. Letting go long before our coping abilities have been stretched to their limits seems to be an ability we are reluctant to practice. It is true that many of us learn only at the school of hard knocks. Simply allowing is often the best alternative yet we fight it. This is not a show of weakness or a deliberate act of surrender. It is a true show of faith. If we question our faith in the process, we bitterly hold on until we reach that point that we have no choice but to acknowledgement that we have finally come to a point where no further actions can be taken on our part. Letting go and releasing our energies might be the best course of action available to us. Everything in life has significance. Determining our best approach is important not only for our sanity, but also for our greater good. If we have walked around the situation and viewed it from every angle and there is no satisfactory way to get rid of it, it is time to accept that it is there and climb it or maybe take a new course around it. In any case, enjoy the new view. Staying where you are and accomplishing nothing but frustrations serves no purpose. Remember we have at our disposal all the ingredients we need to deal with any obstacle. With the right frame of mind, we can continue our travels no matter how high the mountain is in front of us. Attitude and expectation mold our reality. We are at the controls even when we let go for this too is a choice. We can halt our journey and stand in front of the mountain and feel defeated, or we can accept that the mountain is there, plan an alternate route or put on our climbing gear and conquer that mountain. Whether we choose to go around or to climb this mountain, we will eventually get to our destination but if we stand in front of that mountain defeated and angry, we only hurt ourselves and forget to live. Neptune’s influence can be quite subtle in its expression yet dynamic at the same time. Its tendency is to cloud matters, to make things uncertain but can also lead to vibrant spiritual enlightenment. Much depends on how Neptune is aspected in the birth chart and by which planets or angles. A strong Neptune can indicate trouble related to seeing the real picture. There can be a tendency to visualize an ideal and cover up what might be right in front of you. It can also produce vivid dreams which can be deciphered and used in daily life and it can stimulate the unconscious and activate psychic abilities. The house that Neptune is located in the chart will define the area of life that may be somewhat cloudy and vague. It can produce vivid understanding of the mystical and insight that will unequivocally describe the nature and expression of that particular house. For example, if you were to have Neptune in the first house, you will come across as mysterious and intriguing, potentially a mystic or someone with great creativity and artistic expression. This expression could also define someone with musical abilities, as well as someone who is lost in life and uses drugs to escape harsh realities. Someone with Neptune in the seventh house could be attracted to a mystical type of individual or be drawn to those that require assistance or are lost. Since the seventh house speaks about partnership, someone with Neptune in this house may have a hard time seeing their partner clearly. They may put their partner on a pedestal and once the fog clears, they can be quite upset at what stands before them. It is advised that anyone with Neptune in the seventh and especially those how have challenging aspects to Neptune that they review their chosen partner and even ask others what they think about them before plunging into a relationship. The position of Neptune is also the place where mystical understanding and spiritual insight might be revealed especially if this is the ninth house or if Neptune is attached to a grand water trine in the birth chart. Pluto in a close sextile to Neptune can also indicate the potential for spiritual insight and psychic leanings, especially if the connection is to the fourth or eighth house. The twelfth house also speaks strongly of psychic potential but it also speaks of confinement and institutions where mental breakdowns and psychic disruption can have profound effects on the mental reasoning abilities. When Neptune transits through a house or makes connections to planets in the birth chart, it is often quite a difficult transit to handle. Many things associated with the house, the planet and sign can become quite unclear and misleading. Nothing is for certain. Neptune can also teach you a great deal about compassion and selflessness however and even in extreme cases, its energies can lead to mystery and even psychosis if the channels are left to fester without the proper assistance to guide us through the illusiveness tied to Neptune. In many cases confusion reigns and things are unclear. The direction can be out of focus and rational may be difficult to achieve. Insight is possible however. We have been requested to explain the basics on how to read a birth chart. In one post, we are only able to touch on this but after this read you should be able to check planetary placements in your own chart when we are discussing activity with the planets in our daily posts as they are move through the Zodiac. The birth chart is basically a snapshot of the heavens at the precise moment of your birth from your specific location on earth. In this snapshot, the planets are frozen in time around the earth and this defines your astrological birth signature. This snapshot will never change although the planets will keep moving around the zodiac after your birth. The continuing movement of the planets is referred to as transiting planets. The planets in the birth snapshot are referred to as natal planets. As mentioned, the snapshot that your natal or birth chart is specific to your date of birth and your time of birth as well as your location of birth. If you move after birth say from France to Canada, you will have to have what is referred to as a relocation chart prepared. This new place or residence presents different opportunity to you than that which your birth place would have offered. The relocation chart will create a change in your rising sign (the sign coming over the horizon at the moment of birth). The rising sign will change either by sign or degree. You can go to many different sites on the internet to have a snapshot or chart diagram prepared for you. With our example we will use ASTRO DIENIST at www.astro.com It is a great site with much to offer. Again, you will need your complete birth information. Click on “Free Horoscopes” at the top right. Under “Drawings and Calculations”, select “Extended Chart Selection”. You may have to create an account. It is worth the small amount of time required in the end. Choose a house system (Holm Astrology prefers the placidus system). Ask the programme to add all the planetary placements as well as the nodes (mean nodes), lunar nodes and eclipses. Once you have done this, you can create a print out of the heavens which represented the diagram of your chart. Now when we refer to different planets, houses, aspects, angles, you will be able to locate this information on your own diagram. With this diagram, you are ready to read your chart. With diagram in hand, you will notice that there are twelve sections with the numbers in the centre. These are the astrological houses. The houses represent areas of life, so when for example we refer to the 5th house, go to the house marked 5 in your chart to see what is happening there for you. On the bottom left hand side of the print out are the planets (from the Sun to Pluto) as well as the angles (ascendant (AC) and midheaven (MC)). The symbols for the planets are beside the named planets and below are the house placement according to sign, degree and minute. It only shows six houses because the opposite house on the chart will be exactly the same size. According to the symbols, you can see where your planets are at the moment of birth. This will never change, but the houses and AS/MC will change if you move. If the symbols are foreign to you, please visit www.holmastrology.com/astrology-101 When we speak in terms of the transiting Moon for example in our posts (this is not the birth placement for the Moon as shown in your Chart diagram), it is where the Moon is currently located. For example let’s say that the Transiting Moon is in Scorpio at 5 degrees. You can now picture/locate where the transiting Moon would be in your birth chart. If you go back to www.astro.com, you can again go to extended chart selection and ask for the transits and natal chart. This will provide you with you natal chart diagram but will include the transiting planets for the date you choose. The transiting planets (the transits) will be on the outside of the wheel and the birth placement or natal placements will be on the inside of the wheel. The coloured lines between the planets are angles which define the separation between these planets and angles in your chart. These angles define what type of energy will be transmitted between these points. We will not go into detail on what these angles represent today as this is far too in depth. We have looked at the various aspects in past posts and you can search each type if you like. The red lines are angles that are challenging and the blue lines are harmonious. However every chart has both and the more challenging the chart is, the more difficult the life lessons, but at the same time the more challenging conditions in a chart, the greater the rewards when we have learned the lesson at hand. Alternatively, the more easy flow a chart may be, the greater the possibility that the person can become stagnant and growth will be minimal. Such an individual when faced with adversity or hard lessons will be devastated by these events unlike someone who is used to facing challenges and knows the satisfaction of victory. This is just touching on our astrology chart diagram but it will assist you in creating yours so that you have a point of reference when we discuss the many aspects of the Astrology chart. Awakening in part is developing true awareness, being in the moment, recognizing who you are and each and every little detail about life. You notice colour in an enhanced way. You notice smells and tastes as if it were your first time experiencing them. You feel like you have never felt before. You experience as you have never experienced previously. It is as if all the senses are heightened. Your memory is enhanced, your vision seems crisp and clear, you feel excited and energy seems to come to you in many different ways. With this heightened awareness, you notice all the little flaws in your behaviour, some apparent for the first time. Other flaws could be things that you previously felt was not overly important. Through your awareness, it is now important to react and make changes but not to own. We begin to discard anything that feels out of place. Some of these ingrained behaviours stem from many years of built up habits. Habits can be hard to shake and challenging to overcome. Some are minor in comparison but still it is more comfortable to fine-tune them. Initially we may not like what we see and so we begin to adjust our lives accordingly. These actions may even be subconscious but they play a significant role in determining what fits and what does not in our new way of life. We may also notice all the little flaws in others and become more adept at reading them. When they are behaving in ways that do not suit their true personality, we recognize this. We cannot judge as we know that judgement is not ours to make. With time and adjustment, we no longer see these flaws within categories and just recognize them for what they are. We recognize that actions or lack of actions are not who these people are. Everyone is doing the best they can at their stage of soul development. While we edge closer to our true self, we also reach deeper into others. We may be even lucky enough to recognize the soul within and communicate on an internal level, without words. Contact is subtle but it is. We reach inward and instinctively understand where others are coming from. We may not see their past, but we understand that it is their past that has brought them to where they are now. We can sympathize with their journey and feel their energies. We cognize their struggles and we want to help in whatever way we can. Love is (external and internal at the same time). We recognize that source has always been connected with us. This is a wonderful recognition. Our experiences are similar in many ways, but we all walk our own road and experience what we need and learn in our own way. We join hands throughout different parts of our journeys and we can share. Awakening is our ultimate gift and what a perfect gift it is. Pluto’s abilities to transform and regenerate are highlighted as it travels through the birth chart. There is nothing subtle about Pluto’s influence and you are quite aware that something needs to be changed or altering. Pluto’s energies are abrupt and disruptive and the changes that Pluto is putting on the table need to be addressed and then transformed so that life fits you more appropriately. When Pluto is finished transiting through a house or linking up with a planetary placement, its energies will have significantly changed things and usually in a very permanent manner. Pluto is sometimes associated with physical death and is usually activated in the chart in some way when someone in our lives passes over. When activated, most times, it does not always mean literal death, but it does mean that a condition or life element is no longer suitable for you and needs to end to being a birth of something new. Therefore, Pluto does signify the death or end of a situation and then the beginning of something new. Pluto, as mentioned, is not subtle in its release and sometimes you have opportunities to make these changes and other times, they just happen with little or no control from you. If Pluto links up with Mars or Uranus, you actually need to be careful and make sure that you do not put yourself in dangers situations. If you have a square between these planets there will be challenging conditions and they come at you for a reason. You will have to watch for arguments and aggressive behaviour especially if Mars is concerned and particularly if the aspect is an opposition. The trine and sextile are not as aggressive and usually suggest transformation at a high level. Although somewhat challenging to accept, the energies resulting from the trine and sextile will benefit you in the long haul. Uranus is more unpredictable and this is the one you need to watch out for when aspecting Pluto . You will have to be attentive when, for example, driving a motorized vehicle. Operate with more care than normal and never rush. Do not go out and drive in fits of anger either. Take the time to settle yourself down before driving. If you are confronted by an aggressive individual, do not put up a fight unless you have no choice. Whenever possible, walk away from confrontation during such aspects. These examples are extreme cases and will also involve other planets making aspects that suggest the same before such energies will be released in such a powerful way. There needs to be at least 3 aspects in a chart, each saying the same thing, before events can take place and much depends on the other planets involved and the angles they are making. The aspects to Pluto, however, can be rather tumultuous experiences, and you will learn a lot from them. In general, we learn much more from adverse life conditions than the mild, easy flow experiences. The standout experiences seem to be our natural way of learning. Letting go of the outcome is not giving up or releasing your control. We never lose control of our attitude and reaction to life’s events. We are always devising ways to reach the summit of our life’s quest. We are not at the mercy of life. We are never in a situation where we are forced to give up unless of course, we choose to do so. Surrender or allowance is an antidote to despair. Quite the opposite of what many of us may think. By allowing life lessons to teach us instead of going down kicking and screaming and fighting a lesson that we must learn, we release the struggle. At the very least we eliminate some stress; at best, we can actually enjoy the lesson. Our choices are to take the route easily traversed or to take the road that takes extreme effort to reach the end. Which road do you prefer to take? Surrender means to accept what life sends your way and use what is at hand. It is certainly not to releasing all responsibility. The direction we take in life is largely in our hands. We are constantly manifesting with our every thought, our every action. With letting go and accepting with the acknowledgement that the course has been set in motion and life will unfold the way it should, it is easier to understand that by letting go we accept the inevitable and make the journey much easier. We can consciously move ahead with our quest making plans and alterations along the way. Once life begins to unfold accordingly, we can let go of the outcome. The final outcome unfolds as it should but certainly not always as we plan. Our investment in our own personal creation is irreplaceable but openness to faith and guidance by spirit and source is immeasurable. Since we are spirit currently in the form of a human expression and source is our link to totality, we are in control of the final outcome even when we fail to recognize this. We were asked what type of influence the planets would have on us for today, Hallowe’en. Our review of the energies is with adults in mind as opposed to being from a perspective of their influences for children. The outer planets are the planets that have greater and lasting effects on us but since we are looking at one day in particular, we are looking more closely at the inner planets as well as the Moon. The Sun, Moon and Mercury are all in the sign of Scorpio. This in itself is quite significant as we might have a greater flexibility in getting in touch with the occult and psychic realms of experience. Mercury would enhance our thinking and creative approach in the psychic realms and push us to think on a deeper level, perhaps reaching within. It is believed that the door or veil is more open or more thin during this period and that we are more receptive to information from the other side. Scorpio’s energy is insistent on reaching below the surface. If we were to attempt to connect with source and the general feelings brought on by the vibrations carried over from our youth when we were open and less “programmed”, we could connect to ingrained information that may be trying to surface. This knowing may become more accessible for us now under these influences. The Moon, which is also in Scorpio today, would open the channels to psychic and occult understanding through our instincts and emotional interactions with spirit. Our intuition and feelings would be enhanced and this should collaborate with the internal information we are receiving as a result of Mercury’s influence. Psychic understanding and intuition are tied very closely to our emotions as they are connected through this interaction with the Moon. With the Sun in Scorpio, we may be able to get in contact with our higher selves and gain insight into our own personal connection with source. The Astrological Sun is tied to our identity and who we are on a deep level of understanding. Perhaps with the channels being open today more than normal, we can make a greater connection with our true selves. Perhaps for the few who are more aware of their aligning with source, there might even be a shift of sorts that could take place. At the same time, interestingly enough, Neptune is in opposition to the North Node. This would be considered the most significant of all the connections mentioned. With the North Node tied to our destiny and the South Node tied to our past, our past ties to mysticism could be highly activated during this time, as the South Node would be conjunct Neptune. The South Node is relevant to where we have come from and what we have brought with us into this life; Interesting now that the nodes are being activated from Neptune, the planet of mystical insight, spiritual awakening and psychic inclinations. Because Neptune is in opposition to the North Node, we would do well to sit and talk openly with anyone who shares our personal views and insight to see what they have to say. Much could be learned from them right now. The connection between the Nodes and Neptune will carry on late into November and even early into December. As a result, this transit is much longer lasting than the ones discussed above and therefore this transit is much more significant and influencial. On Sunday, October 30, 2016, we will have a New Moon in the sign of Scorpio at 7 degrees. As mentioned in previous posts, the New Moon offers energies conducive of new growth. Plant the seeds of your plans so that you can harvest your efforts in the future, particularly under the influence of the Full moon in Scorpio in six months from now (May 10, 2017). We not only plant the seeds under the New Moon but we also germinate them by acting on our ambitions and instincts to move ahead in our endeavours. To utilize the full benefits of this Scorpio New Moon’s energies, we have to understand the energies of Scorpio. Scorpio is a deep and reflective sign, so not only should we delve deep into our own subconscious, we actually need to bring to the surface anything deep within that needs purging or transforming. This could include anything of a sexual nature as part of Scorpio’s energies can be sexual in nature. Scorpio’s energies are driven to uncover anything within us that has held us back from maturing or moving into the next level of understanding in our lives as well as our connection to our own spirituality. Mercury is in conjunction to the New Moon. Mercury is like a chameleon as it adapts and takes on the energies of other planets that it is in touch with. Mercury helps us assimilate what is being suggested and defines things for us. Mercury is the planet of the mind and the mind will be highly stimulated during this period which allows us to make sense of everything on a very deep level. It is time to purge all those things that are not truly you so that we can understand who we are at the core. Do you think of yourself as lucky? There is no question why some people never seem to win in life. These people truly believe that they are not winners.
