SOLAR AND LUNAR ECLIPSES

We have two luminary Eclipses that affect humankind and likely all other species on earth. 

The energy influence of a Solar Eclipse and a Lunar Eclipse are both said to last approximately 6 months.  Some say the Solar Eclipse lasts longer than the Lunar Eclipse stretching into one year of influence.  The strongest period of influence is about 4-6 weeks after the eclipse and some individuals can feel the energies prior to the actual event as well.

The Solar Eclipse always occurs during the New Moon and is said to expand in its energy over a period of some six months as mentioned above.  It will impact your chart if it is within 3° of any planet in your birth chart, particularly the Sun and Moon.  It will also highly affect your Ascendant and Midheaven.  Its prime push is, with some impulsive action on our part, to create new beginning. 

Sometimes we are aware of what needs to begin and other times it can happen very unexpectedly. Because of this, it is suggested that you wait for things to settle before making any sudden or major changes to your life that may be regretted after this energy has subsided.  Opportunities often present themselves, and in some cases rather dynamically.  It may be hard to hold back as sometimes it feels very appropriate to move ahead with what seems to be the right choice under the influence of a Solar eclipse.

The Lunar Eclipse always happens when we are having a Full Moon, which suggests that it is time to shed things that no longer suit our evolutionary growth.  Sometimes things surface that may have been hidden in the past or swept under the proverbial carpet.  We need to let go and move forward.  This can be a challenging situation and the emotions will run high.  It can bring a complete and sometimes sudden end to things, although in some cases we might already have been aware of this coming. 

Once again, change can happen suddenly and unexpectedly. We should take our time if at all possible.  Sometimes things just happen that seem destined and almost out of our control.   

Some people fear the Solar and Lunar eclipses. In most cases, these events bring forward what is needed. 

The houses in your Astrology chart that are touched by the eclipse and the planetary energies will provide the information needed to have an idea of what to expect.  This can be an especially significant event if other transits and progressions mirror what is suggested when these events take place.

Our next eclipse will take place on August 12, 2026 at 20° in the sign of Leo.  If you have any planets or angles involving this degree, most importantly the Conjunction and Opposition, the energies will have an impact on your chart.

LUNAR ECLIPSE OCTOBER 2023

On October 28, 2023, we will be experiencing a Lunar Eclipse. In the Toronto area it will be a partial eclipse reaching maximum at 6:10 p.m. EST. The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse begins at 2:01 p.m. (not visible in our area) and ends at 6:26 p.m. (which will be close to the horizon in our area).

The Lunar Eclipse will occur at 5° in the sign of Taurus.

All eclipse’s suggest heightened energy and with the Lunar Eclipse, in particular, the energies suggest a time of releasing and endings. It operates like a super-charged Full Moon and will create major changes and the finality of what has been in play for approximately the past 6 months.

Because it is in the sign of Taurus (a fixed, earth sign) it often speaks of material or objective matters. You will need to go slow but be steady in your approach. This is not the time to rush into situations. Be practical and make sure that over-spending is not part of the scenario as you may want to buy expensive things on impulse or spend money when you likely should not.

When these energies are working well, although the Lunar Eclipse is attached to endings of some sort, there is often an advancing stage in the evolution of what is unfolding now in life. The area of life affected by this positioning will depend largely on where Taurus 5° is found in your birth chart (which house) as well as any planets in the natal chart or current transits that are affected by this position.

There is an opposition coming from Mercury and from Mars so in many cases this suggests that others are involved in the equation. Taurus is a very sensual sign and perhaps some interchange with an individual has the potential to unfold or the relationship moves to its next stage. This could include an ending of sorts such as the end of a sexual union, or, perhaps on the other side of the coin, the end of a platonic relationship that morphs into a sexual relationship.

Oppositions are not overly pleasing exchanges, and some friction might be involved. This can be a time of great change but not without some type of hard work or interaction that is not unfolding in your favour. Others may play a clear part in what unfolds. Relationships of all kinds might be part of this.

The energies may take several months to completely unfold, but you will often notice that during the week or two prior and the first month following the eclipse is often the peak time for the experience defined by the positioning within the birth chart.

Lunar Eclipse October 2023

LIBRA SOLAR ECLIPSE

On Saturday, October 14, 2023, we will experience a Solar Eclipse at 21° in the sign of Libra.

Anyone with planets or angles within three degrees of this placement in their natal chart, either by conjunction or opposition or to a lesser degree by the other major aspects will be influenced by this eclipse. Check the placement of this eclipse along with the aspects it makes, and the natal configurations attached to this position in your chart. Natal potential will give a clear understanding of the energies in place and their potential in your specific case. Each chart will have different dynamics in place and although the energies of a Solar Eclipse often bring the same conditions into life, the areas of life will differ from person to person.

Solar Eclipses, although quite different from a Lunar Eclipse, often signify the likelihood of some form of stress or in some cases a crisis. With the Solar Eclipse, there is an indication of the initial stages or beginnings where there are opportunities, although we are often hard-pressed because what we feel comfortable with in our life, now has changes in place. These changes can be quite vast and will be defined by the placement of the solar eclipse in the chart. What is now in place (beginning phases of this transformation or alteration) will set the theme for the future, some six months ahead, although many Astrologers believe the influence of these solar energies lasts much longer than six months.

There is a sense of destiny in place often with karmic indictors and in this case related to relationships of significance because of the influence of Libra. As mentioned, this Solar Eclipse is at 21° Libra. This can be a time of balancing and creating harmony in the sphere of relationships. Harmonizing is especially essential, and it is important that we also check the opposite house (Aries) to see which other area of life will be affected. If there are planets in your chart at this position (21 degrees give or take 3 degrees of influence) this placement will also be affected by this event.

E.g. Someone with their Neptune in the tenth house conjoining this placement with the eclipse at close proximity, would have indications of spiritual evolution or psychic indicators that would pertain to the career path or goals and aspirations. Neptune would evoke something connected to the psychic realm or some spiritual offerings. This will also affect the home and family because of the fourth house location in opposition to the tenth house placement of this eclipse. The tenth house alignment would be where this Solar Eclipse makes its mark.
